Hey Lou, nice to see that it is all finished. Did you fly it this past Sunday or Monday. I went to the field on Monday evening (late) and put flight No. 4 & 5 on my new twin (cessna 310). I also know what you mean with model maintenance. 24 is always in my hanger in the always "ready" state. gunny

Got more flights on it again this evening. Trimming it out a little bit each flight. I moved the CG slightly aft and she's landing better. The two bladed props are giving me great top end flying speed. She handles nice, looks great and lands sweet. Gunny

I forgot to post pictures of my nose job. Ha Ha [:)] On the 310 of coarse. Since I've removed the nose geat tub, I had to make my own retract mount. I left a ridge along the door opening and epoxied in two rails. The cardboard templates are the shape of the 1/4" thick ply nose gear mount. eyc. etc. gunny

The small front door flap is mounted to the nose retract trunnion with a wire. No springs or rubber bands here. (maintenance free) Because I dont have a nose wheel well, I decided to reprogram the gear/door sequencer computer to reclose the nose doors to keep a 1/2 lb of grass out of the plane. [X(] Gunny

I opened up both of the front doors to make a switch hatch. One side is for the Rx and the other side is for the lights and air. I always like to use Electro Dynamics lighting system all around, which I did. They sell a Intensifier Lens with Holder that I have to share with you guys. I just makes it better period.

Pictures of my equipment installed into the nose. Rx battery, lighting battery way up front. Pneumatic air solenoids for the gears and doors, under the retract. Gear door sequencer computer followed by servo rails which has both rudd. and elev. servos. Also mounted onto the rails are the twin sync and rx. The third picture shows the area under the wing. I ran all the air lines there to mount them and make the nessessary T connections. And of coarse the wires and air lines to the wing.

So here are the pictures of the part I did'nt use. I replaced the cockpit with 1/16" balsa and the heavy resin doors with lite ply. Also I took out both the main gear wheel wells. (1 lb of stuff replaced with 1/2 lb of new lighter stuff.

n6iap The air cylinder that I used is from Yellow Aircraft. It is 1/4" or 5/16" dia. by 1 7/8" long, 1 3/4" stroke on the piston.

RE: Top Flite Cessna 310 posted
So, I've maindend her. She looks good and fly's fairly well. I put 3 flights on her and was already shooting touch and go's. All up weight is 21 pounds with the 55AX's. I have solved the mid range issues by switching over to a 12X7 wood 2 bladed props. Will have to see if it is an improvement in the acceleration on the take off roll. The twin-sync has saved my plane twice already on the take off roll because of the mid range issues. I will have to take pictures of what I have done to her. I originally removed almost 2 pounds of steel shot from the nose. Made some things lighter, such as my own inner and outer main gear doors. Also I eliminated the ABS plastic cockpit and substituted it with 1/16" balsa. I eliminated both 4-40 steel push rod wires and used carbon fiber rods. I also mounted everything up into the nose. So, I only had to put back 1/2 lb into the nose. More to come at a later date. Gunny

RE: Eletronic engine syncronizer **SUPPORT **
Another observation. As I posted earlier, I like to use a idle up switch, and this is good because I need the higher idle for landing my heavy twin. Also I dont have to worry about a flame out on long approches and in case one engine quits, I wont have to worry about the other engine going to full throttle when I comand it. (because at low throt. and idle switch down, it's simply a Y harness) So now for my other observation. When flying around (also with my idle up switch on high idle) and if one engine quits the other engine goes to idle. So, when you lower the throt. stick all the way down and re-advance the throt. stick you wont regain control of the other engine unless I flip down the idle switch. Then you'll regain powe of the other engine. This might be a good thing so as you will definetally will be confirming that you actually have an engine out and not just panicing and cycling the throttle up and down. I love it, and it has saved me already on two take-off runs. These are just my observations and oppinions of how I am using this device. I would definetally buy another one of this product for a future B-25 or two more units for a B-17. Thanks, Gunny

RE: Eletronic engine syncronizer **SUPPORT **
O.K. I've got a question on somthing that I noticed while playing around with my new twin.. The twin sync. works great. Kill either engine at full throttle and the other one goes to idle. So cool. Works flawlessly. Now the turn on point or twin syncronization start point was set a couple of clicks above idle like the manual states, But if one engine would flame out such as let's say a long final and you abort to go around the other engine will throttle up. Now I did set up a high idle switch, like I do with all my other gas or glow powered engines for the reason of starting, warming up and keeping a higher idle while doing spins etc. The turn on point is on where this higher idle is set. There is no problem here. But normally when I enter the landing pattern I flip off the high idle switch and come in. So, should I land with my high idle switch on (because this works fine, the other engine would'nt go to full throttle) or should I simply just lower the turn on point. Gunny

Yes, I am, I build to fly permanently so I used red lock-tite on the bolt that holds the nacell onto the spar section and then glued everything else. Especially towards the LE. gunny

Hi Dave, Thanks, I'm not using on-board glow drivers. The socket for the needle valve assemly is a deep 8mm 1/4" drive made by Companion. (sold at Sears Hardware stores). This socket just clears the fuel inlet nipple. Gunny

Ok. I'm back. I started on page 114 with my own wing mods. Im using OS 55ax's and have mounted sullivan 12 oz fuel tanks which gives me 10 minutes of flying. I found an easy way of mounting the sensor of the twin synk. I also found a neat way of locating the holes in the nacell.

RE: New weight limits
I heard rumors of the FAA wanting to regulate the weight down to 40 pounds max. Anything over that weight limit is done, finished, cant fly it anymore, not going to be granfathered in, period. Has anyone heard of this too. I heard this from a modeler who affiliates with the JPO Jet Pilots Organization. Gunny

Nonstoprc, A propane torch for the thicker metal is not HOT enough. I used a oxygen/mapp gas torch set (from sears store) This has solved my problem in the past. Be careful, you can blow a hole in the aluminum. You could find a local welding shop that can weld it back on for you. Gunny
