people that dont read the complete article should. I was saying how ama banning the jets would hurt a lot of people. I do not want that to happen, but all this negative attention will not make things any easier for us People that fly

RE: Sabotage at Florida Jets
SORRY GUYS This subject has hijacked RCU for quite a time. I am three years into flying planes and have a comparf 2.6 yak, built and flown by me for the second season atm. I also have a friend that is a builder. I am a natural born mechanic and we bump heads all the time. The one basic thing that i listen to him about is that if you buy cheap equipment you will loose your ass in the long run. Hate to say this, but why did people buy this jet in the first place. Was it cheaper? I am sure that maybe a few bought FEJ because they were the only one with a particular airframe??? Does not appear that FEJ is going to do anything about the issues at this time. Perhaps the AMA should ban the FEJ jets from sanctioned events and pull the waivers of anyone flying a FEJ jet This will hurt a lot of people with FEJ planes that do not have problems (IF THEY EXIST) Also, we are basically assembling expiremental aircraft, does not matter if they are big or small, but i am sure that many issues really have a hard time being locked down to what actually happened. Don"t see how the manufacturer can be expected to make huge refunds when there are numerous little things that can cause a loss. Ive seen the films and know there was a issue with the elevators! How much negative publicity do we as a group have to publish every day before the wrong set of eyes see it and try to take the right to fly a turbine away from everyone.

RE: Spektrum not working after bind
SIGH Dave. Sounds like you have the wires backwards. Also if you use a dsm sat on a dsmx reciever it will not work. As that is John H's radio and you live close to him you should have him take a look at it and Im sure it will work. BTW John got that transmitter from me and it is like new, used about 3 hours. The transmitter is fine, as you get no blinkies on the recievers it makes me think the issue is the way you have the polarity going into the reciever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_RWJ_SDsYs&feature=g-user-u P.S. Hobby king now has the orange recievers on sale for under $3, I am going to have to rush out and buy a bag full of them because my 100cc carf needs a $3 reciever so I can feel secure when I fly it [:D] KNOCK ON WOOD I believe that the spectrum radio systems are pretty reliable, no more or less then the futaba or jr that I have seen, There may seem to be more problems, but that is because of the much larger number of people using the less expensive systems and the newness of the users using the spectrum systems becasue they are less expensive.

RE: Why the near obsession with over powering airplanes?
LOL SPEED KILLS.[:D][:D] My first year was spent flying electrics sucsessfully and a 20cc Stearman great planes Military. I am flying a nice 50cc aerobat. However the most fun I have had is with a parkzone Thunderbolt. After I learned to fly I learned to soup that plane up. Ithas a power 25 1250 KV and needs a icelite 75 amp to power it. 10/8 prop and a 2650 4 cell [:)] It outruns almost everything at the field for about 4 mins LOL Ive had a lot of flights and finally flew the wings off the plane one day [:D]. Turns out that i rebuilt the plane and the new wing was not glued all the way, Horizon gave me a new airfram after I sent pictures of the bad glue joint (no glue at all) Even though I am flying a PAU 50 cc and am working on a 100cc comparf, i get a kick out of that thunderbolt every flight. P.S. It prob does 115mph, but is hard to clock cause of its size.

I have a video of great planes ultimate 160 with a pte36. I am a nub flier started last late spring. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTETeQabMY4&feature=plcp this is with a 18-8 breakin prop will try a 19-8 when i get my new muffler. BTW I sent my old muffler to Bisson and he is going to make a muffler, mine will be a large can as my field hates loud planes, and the pte is pretty loud.

RE: Top Flite p 47, ok for a first plane?
I think you should start with a p47d parkzone electric. You gotta have a warbird here it is. They fly well, you will need help setting the throws and trimming it out and a buddy box at first, but if you crash it a complete airframe is $80-90 and a few hours to put togather. You can install retracts and flaps and have more fun factor. It however will be a bitch as a new pilot to take off, but lands very easy. When you get done learning to fly you can soup that plane up and have fun. I stuck a aluminum motor mount, a power 25 1250 K.V. motor, a ice lite 75 amp esc and a 4cell 2650 pack in mine. On a 10/8 prop it easily flies over 100mph. Make sure you reglue the wing spar!!!! If not you will have pile of styro and smoking battery. This is not a absolute entry level plane, but it does fly very well and is not heavy like a (real) warbird. Also, if you soup it up and fly it fast, it will go a long way towards getting you ready for a larger plane, if you can fly a 100mph foam and not trash it you can fly bigger planes.

RE: Charging 2 lipos simultaneous with ICE/EQUINOX?
CAUTION I have had a lipo fire due to improper charging. Live in a apartment and almost had a major issue. Lots of flames and smoke you would not believe. SIMPLE Do not take a chance to keep from buying another charger, NOT WORTH IT. Every charge with a lipo is a ticking time bomb and you need a balance lead attached. I now use a hitech X4 charger and have a second one, A hobby king knock-off that works just as well and appears to be the same unit with a different looking push pad and different wording on the start up screen (stored in rom somewhere no doubt). My lipo bag did not contain the issue at all and my transmitter (NEW DX8 about a foot from the lipo bag) got fried by the exhaust coming out the side of the bag. I saved money of the junk chargers i was using at the time. but lost a tranmitter and have a large hole in the top of the desk where i was charging. Also I stress that I am using what I consider to be a good power supply (25 amp competetion electroncs) and can charge 4 6s packs at up to 5 amps each though i never charge more then 3.5. The better the power supply the better the charger seams to work. I see some pretty nice chargers with the power supply built in, but they dont seam to hold up the same and I think it is good to seperate the heat from the power supply and the charger. Sorry bout the long winded response, but serious, who needs a Liipo fire in their workroom, airplane, heli or car.

I have a PTE36 in my Great Planes Ultimate160. Tell you what, it is the best running and easiest to start gasser i have. When cold turn it choked 10 times and it fires right up. warmed up flip it three times and its good to go. I however have had an issue with the muffler. It is loud and finally it fell apart. The tubes just came out of the can. Hope TBM treats me right! HOWEVER I LOVE THE MOTOR AND AM STILL HAPPY!!! Just need a better muffler. Oh Yeah Lots of power!

Birds crashin planes
I have been chased a few times by birds while flying my plane, but this one was personal. Was Landing my new 50cc PAU on a pretty windy day and all the sudden this pair of birds attack me. I mean, in my face trying to get my eyes etc. I had walked to the end of the field as it was windy and wanted a bit if extra room and i was attacked. Almost wrecked my plane into the restraining fence but got it on the runway with a small scuff on the wing tip. It was actually funny cause these were small birds and I am over 6 foot tall. Hmm I guess they won this one! NOTE TO SELF While it is bad to chase birds with you planes-you may get lucky!

RE: ESM 74 Corsair engine choice
I bought a pte36 It has a nice pitts muffler incl, uded with it. Good for tight spaces. It also has a real walbro carb, unlike my dle30 which has carb issues. Have not run the pte yet is going in a great planes 1.6 ultimate. Was going to use a dle55, but the 36 will use a lot less gas and am doing a light build, plane is at 12 lbs and batteries in front was good to go no lead. Crossing my fingers. The pte36 turns a 17.8 3 blade prop 7-800 rpm higher then the dle from what i read. Wish me luck.

HELP funtana 125 dle30
Lord help me ive doen it again. Built a funtana 125 this winter. Installed a 30cc dle in it as i read that everone was putting like 8 ounces of weight in the front. I moved the firewall back. (very good job) and kept all the angles the same. Unded up having to put two washers on the bottom of the mounts as the plane wanted to pull to the ground whenever i gave it gas. I am runnong a three blade prop in it and it is now flyinf very well. One big issue, Landing is a bitch cause it gets er pitchy at low speeds. It tracks and flies perfect and when flown upside down no correction is necessary flies flat and level. The balance is supposed to be spot on according to the manual, so in the beginning it is nose heavy cause of the tank fill. The point here is that the plane is way overpowered and is it possible that the three bladed prop is causing the pitch issue when the plane is slowing down to land? Can it be acting as a big airbrake and causing the pitching. Otherwise it is an increadable plane to fly. HELP ME PLEASE

On the other hand, the amount of mo ney I save on batteries it was not even worth the trouble to get the one back replaced. I have had very good luck with the batteries, do not buy the turnigy esc!

YUUUP I can remeber being a noob, still am. Did RC cars for many years back when the RC10 was the first real car out there. LEarned my directions but was foreced to quit due to hand issues (Carpel Tunnel) Just got back into R.C. last spring and managed to learn to fly pretty well at my club (DCRC). We have a wonderfull field and a ton of very helpfull people. This is a video of what i would say is my best moment so far (altough i have flown a bunch this summer) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSaxv4Js_iA Several things I have learned DONT BUY CRAP EQUIPMENT Dont trust anyone that helps, you are responsible to make sure everything is correct. And the most important lesson. MAKE SURE YOUR AILERONS ARE PROGRAMMED CORRECTLY [:@] Best noob moment was when i was the first one on the field in the early spring and had Pollen swirls coming off the runway on takeoff. P.S. Love the hobby and all the people that make it possible.

LOL i like the deals on used planes and or new planes never flown, big issue is the noob builders. A used or never flown assembled plane usually takes just as long to get ready to fly as a new one. I find that every nut bolt and gluejoint needs to be checked. Save a lot of money, but not much time. All in all I have only bought one used plane that was very ready to fly and it was a joy. the bnf also gets you a crappy charger and battery. I would suggest a pnp and get a couple of 2200 4s packs from hobby king and a turnigy charger. Will cost the same and the thunderbolt flies very well on those 4s packs and if you dont push it hard will last quite a while. BTW the extra weight of the 2200 4s pacs means you dont have to put nose weight in the plane.
