RE: help wanted with a vintage cannon radio
Here are the scans, if your radio is like the second roll use a "CANNON Electronics" label; if it is like the third roll use either label. mine has "Cannon Professional" label on it, it was made just before the Grand Pri version was sold, and Cannon started changing their cases to an ivory color. The difference in the box is the second role of the ad is square and the third has an angle to make the antenna stand straight up when holding. I also took a scan of a receiver label. Sorry no pix of transmitters could not find my camera. The ad is the PDF file.

RE: help wanted with a vintage cannon radio
I will scan and take some photos for you, of the two I have access to. One is a dark green 6 channel Kraft style stick made in 1972 and one is a 3 channel made in 1975. One label says Cannon Professional the other the more generic Cannon Electronics; the labels are the same size. I might also be able to scan ann old silk screen logo but am not to sure if the item still exists. This talk about Cannon brings back a lot of great memories. I even may have some literature and manuals. I hope to get this done by Monday for you, did not have scanner today.

RE: Keeping Non Members off the field
I was not saying Hoss is wrong about shooting "trespassers"; if they are told by the landowner not to be there then it is a criminal trespass, and subject sanctum. There is a problem of a lease vs an owner telling a belligerent what to do. If the lessee is a club does that make every member an agent in the club to tell them to leave? What rights has the landowner granted others? Just because it is legal does not make it the right thing to do. Starting with the signs first is good idea. ,then a gate. The only individual I knew who shoot a trespasser and got in trouble was when I was a guest in Huntsville TX area. I had lunch with him and some friends the day before. He ended up being incarcerated for about a year waiting for his trial. Then he was cleared. I had a real problem with why he was locked up, but I guess as the saying goes it is better to face a 12 man jury then St Peter. He ended up loosing his job, and then moved.

RE: If you could change or improve AMA in some way ...
ORIGINAL: Hossfly Our society no longer has the work ethics of 40 years ago. The obstacles are great. Being competitive is a very small thing with our young folks.
This is just not true, people work harder, they have longer hours and harder hours then in the 70s; for less reward. The "young folks" are competitive, just look at the popularity of video games, local sports clubs (softball, tennis, etc.) . They however like always like to be with individuals their own age. The one societal change is activities need to be open to both sexes to grow today, and they like the amenities.
I have recently been getting political help-requests from DEMOCRATS. Man are they ever desperate and have not a clue where to send such requests. [:D]
If you like politics go do it, it can be rewarding. Be it Democrats, Republican, Green, Tea (Green Tea[:)]) or what ever. But not here please, this is a hobby forum. There are plenty of political forums out there. But if you can volunteer for the local candidate of your choose, I believe you will find that especially rewarding.
If AMA folds, I have no doubt that the FAA will love to unload this little sore on their back.
The FAA does not hate the AMA, they like us maybe to much. The AMA is not going to fold, that is just repeated silly talk. The suggestion by formerbug is a great one, some national flying model organizations are growing. and maybe we can gain some real incite into why, instead of the usual gum flapping.

RE: Keeping Non Members off the field
Signs. They are the first step and are needed. Some that say "No Flying except by Members and their Guests" ; another that state the Clubs name and the requirements to join, safety requirements and room for announcements. And others still for General Public so they do not wonder on the field. I know signs make a good target so make replaceable ones. Signs and safety fencing makes the field look much better in my opinion, it looks like a model flying field instead of a hay (etc.) field. At 50 dollars to join it sounds like a good deal. Some people need to be asked to join a couple of times, explain the benefits to them and you. Have a "fly-in" to show your club off, and invite all AMA members to fly that day; at the fly in be setup to take instant members. Are these repeat individuals? Are they young (don't know any better yet) or old (to set in their ways)? Are they damaging the place? Did they fly there last year? Are they some sort of local official, or the owner of the property or adjacent property? As for the other comments about use of force, it is not a domicile nor a farm/ranch; besides it is not good to terminate potential new members.[8|] Even calling the local authorities has a real downside that should not be over looked; but sometimes calling is needed. You want to be inviting not necessarily to these scofflaws, but to others including your current members and their families; actions you take against some individuals effect how others view you (even unfairly). If they are real pains take pictures and post the pictures of them on a sign and say this means you.

RE: AMA forum censorship
They were correct in removing your post. You listed an individual as an officer in the organization when he is not. Identification of Officials needs to be accurate, for many reasons. You are also wrong in your view of what is Model Aviation in my opinion. There is like 100 year history of it, supposedly the Wrights flew a models when they were young etc. Sorry to be a Debbie downer. I basically agree with you on your main point that organizations should be more inclusive, not sure if there is a problem with your local club. You would be more then welcome in just about all of my clubs; especially if you bring donuts (till I check my weight the next day [&o] ) I also hope you realize that even people elected to public office do not necessary reflect their constitutes on every issue. RE: Kraft servo adapter for Airtonics z
Most Kraft servos will work with a new receiver, even a 2.4 one. Kraft wire is red is plus, black is negative; and usually orange is signal. If their is a fourth white wire the you have a very old 4 wire one and the wire is for a battery central tap; it would be much harder to use them and I would not recommend it. The pulse with for kraft servos was 1.4 except for their sport line. They can easily be re centered if it is to far off. You need a very tiny screw driver. You will need to put new connectors on the wires, I do not think anyone has adapters available. The servos are old so check them out. Changing your RD8000 would only work if your Kraft receiver is a FM one. Most were AM, FMs are marked as such.

RE: Need help identifying some old gear! (radios, engines, etc)
I believe the ignition engine is an OR (Olsen and Rice). I have some of larger sizes and it looks almost the same. The thing you have going for it it seems to still have the ignition points, most old engines found do not. Also the needle valve, tank and a real Champion V2 spark plug (people like them even if just for display). That OS escapement looks great, it is at least 40 years old. It is for a single channel radio with only a push button to control the plane. You do not show a transmitter like it. Someone would want it. I am glad you took pictures never saw a Japaneses escapement before.

RE: Extra 260 manual
I have the same kit. I like the lines it is much closer to scale of the real ones then most of what is sold today. I have seen some really made to scale with fuse windows scale fittings etc. and they were nice. I would build mine a flyer though. I checked the price of the Plans from AMA they were $27 and shipping. That is pretty cheap, it would cost much more to reproduce them. Last time I bought plans that big they cost me almost twice. As far as the manual, I have attached mine (a poor copy of a poor copy), the magazine article was more descriptive, but the method was a little different. If you get the AMA plans and need help on the new method that they use to attached the cowl let me know. Other then that and changing the name to ACE there are no differences that I can see on the plans While I think a Evolution 26 is a nice engine I do think it would not be a good choose for the plane. It is 26 cc which is about 1.5 cubic inches. The recommended power that Ace stated was 2.6 to 3.2 Cubic inches. I was told to put a big engine in it by people who use to fly it. One suggested put the G62 62cc (3.8 cubic inch) Zenoah in it. Others said just a 75 cc Quadra. I do appreciate how well and trouble free the Zenoah is so that would be my first choose, today if I was ready for the engine. The Evolution 58, 50 or 45 would be good if you want an Evolution. The Most Important thing in building this and the smaller ones is that the right and left wing spars are not symmetrical in how they attach to the fuselage.[/b Read the plans several times and check when you build, I have know great builders who have gotten it wrong and they had to fix their wings. Fixing the wings I am sure is difficult and I am not sure if I could do it well.

RE: OS .50FSR
50 FSR is a sweet engine. I have been told many times that it has better carb then the 40 FSR. The muffler for it is the "same" as your FSR 60 "744" but the mounting holes are dilled closer together. I have both versions of the muffler. I have a NIB one, and would buy one if given a good price, but it is still a sought after engine so the price is a little high. I like to get the older engines and use them for sport or scale flying. In hindsight I think the reason the FSR series was so popular was it was the first series be introduced and designed with the muffler in mind and snural porting (not the 10?). They, other then the 10 seem to be long life, with good power and carb. Oh, I did not mean to bad mouth the 10 FSR, I have one that is well worn (repaired many times) and a very nice man gave me a NIB one to replace it. Also, I do not have many NIB engine just 4 or so not meaning to brag above.

RE: Extra 260 manual
The plans for the version in May 1986 Model Aviation mention above are the same as the Plans that came in my Ace kit, other then some Spruce substitution for the Mahogany 1/4 stingers on the fuselage. Also the hold down for the hatch is different, Ace made it more conventional, without the Nyrod and by having an inch of the top attached to the firewall. If you are an AMA member you can download the original construction article. The construction article shows the plans fairly clearly. I have compared the Magazine Plans to the later Ace ones. They are the same plans except as noted above. Even if you are not an AMA member you can get the Plans. They may even include the construction article. They also sell the foam as does some others. What will you power it with. I intend to start building mine late year.

I was recently surprise at a Dr office on how small a commercial Aviation and Space magazine got in the last 10 years. The next day I went to the local book store and browsed the magazines. I found that just about all of them were 1/3 to 1/2 the size they were a year ago. I can only conclude that the economy is more in the tank especially for all types of publishing. RE: New/Revised AMA Safety Code item:
I would think a 8 hour rule is pretty restrictive. If I had a drink at a working lunch or just meeting friends etc.; I would not be able to fly after work. One drink or beer will pretty much would be gone in most of us after only an hour. There will be some alcohol left in our eyeballs for a lot longer, but I do not think that will effect your vision and certainly not your reflexes. There are some issues if you go up in altitude, but we stay on the ground when we fly our models. And if I was binging (as in the past) it would effect me for at least 24 hours. I do think at most flying fields alcohol should be banned; mostly for community relations, being family orientated, Dram act, etc.

RE: Extra 260 manual
I believe what you have is the Extra 230 33% with a 96 inch span designed by Jim Van Loo The 260 was derived from the 230 by going from a 4 to 6 cylinder and adding carbon on the ailerons along with other refinements. If so the original appeared in a construction article in Model Aviation in May 1986. It was latter kitted by Extra RC, then Ace took it over. There is a material substitution of the Mahogany (wonder if they specified night cutting) to spruce. Also the canopy mounts a little differently. The magazine is available online at the AMA website for members. There are a lot of pictures along with plans in the article. There might of been a 260 design later also.
