RE: av8tor1977
Just had the pleasure of opening a box of engines I purchased from AV8TOR. He did a pair of 44cc ECHOs for a twin project Im working on, amazing machining on the polished prop hubs and the timing ring for the ignition. Both started on first flip and run great. Excellent guy to work with, very professional and knowledgeable. Highly recommend him if you need a quality engine at a great price.

RE: Super Tiger 3250 on gas
Mike, You can buy a rare earth magnet at Radio Shack and they work great. Just hook up your ignition and pass the magnet under the pick-up, it will only fire with one side of the magnet. Make sure your ignition is hooked to the plug and just ground the plug to the head. i have a few that you can actually hear firing with the plug installed. Most ignitions have a warning telling you to "NOT" fire the ignition without a plug attached. Hope that helps

RE: another darn ryobi post (ryobi performance modification, analysis and comparison)
Combatpilot, After changing to a larger carb in test 6 did you notice a difference in the idle? Each time I've tried to put a larger carb on a stock Ryobi my idle was terrible and the rpm needed to get a smooth idle was way too high to be useable. Interestingly I got about a 500 rpm increase also. thanks for posting your results, i have a slew of Ryobis but not the patience.............mark

RE: Small motorcycle minibike engines?
Flathead, I have a Lawnboy engine too. I believe you are looking at somewhere around 140-145CCs (cant remember exactly). Ive cut one down and chopped off the shaft for the mower blade. Havent done any more than that, I was worried it would vibrate a plane apart but would still love to try it. If you ever run it start a thread, Ive seen others talk about it in the past but have never seen anyone post any numbers.........mark

I assumed you had the super stearman and i have the PT-17. I think you are right about the altitude. I havent messed with the timing to see if i can get more but will one of these days

RE: New SV Gassers
I agree with Lotech that the SV will easily fly a 10 pound plane. I have one in the Stearman PT-17 at 14.5 pounds and it flies fine. I dont get near the RPMs out of it as him though. With a 15X8 APC i get about 6800rpm @ about 5000ft elevation. Id love to get 9000 though, maybe there is some more to squeeze out of that lil thing

RE: 28 & 31 cc Ryobi
Cutarug, I may be wrong but im pretty sure the 28 and 31cc engines have different cooling fins at the spark plug. The 28s have either one or two cooling fins that are much smaller than the others. I know there are pictures in here somewhere showing the difference

RE: weedeater/chainsaw 39cc for free, where to start?
The second part is correct. Unless you are using something different, the carb you have has a fuel pump in it. I''ll need to go back through the thread and make sure you are using a normal set up but normally you just have the line with the clunk going to the carb, the vent line is just open to the atmosphere. You will need to plug the other nipple on the carb though. Some do hook that vent to the exhaust for added pressure and others will swear its a safety risk, I''ve always left it as a vent to the atmosphere. As for the starter....yes i would hook it up to the 18V to get the engine started. Im sure you''re getting plenty frustrated flipping that prop. If you''re worried about that and your using some small battery, try hooking it to your car battery, maybe that will be enough to crank it over. Good Luck!

RE: weedeater/chainsaw 39cc for free, where to start?
I''m not sure I follow what you did but, you do need to have the tank vented so that line needs to stay open. You do need to plug the hose that goes into the carb where (i assume) your primer bulb went in. All you should need from the tank is the fuel supply line into your carb and a vent to air. At the carb you need the one nipple plugged (usually some fuel line with a screw in it) and the other nipple has your supply line. I apologize if that is what you were saying, i just wasnt following. If you are getting fuel to the plug it should fire. Maybe you just need a starter on it to get it going and adjusted. Others may completely disagree but id hook that starter to your 18V and give it a try

RE: weedeater/chainsaw 39cc for free, where to start?
Fozjared, You can certainly run a bolt through a starter cone and chuck it up in your drill. I''ve always found that it feels a bit ackward though, its not as easy to apply straight pressure on your spinner. If your starter is heavy enough you could just try your 18V battery and see if it will crank over using your current starter. I use an old sullivan with a 19.2V battery out of my drill. It easily starts my conversions. Obviously if it gets too hot, it''s too much battery......m

RE: Elect. ignition for Poulan 25cc?
Nitro Joe I've been running mine on 6V, the owners manual (term manual used very loosely here) states to make sure the voltage isn't below 5.5V. It doesnt state what will happen if it falls below 5.5V however it says it will destroy the ignition above 7V and explode above 10V. (which might be interesting)...........mark

I wanted the answer to that also so I brought my timing light to the field yesterday but it got too windy so I gave up. I planned on trying the light tonight after work. Hopefully I'll be able to post my results tomorrow.

RE: Elect. ignition for Poulan 25cc?
Jim, Im using a 5 cell 2100 mah. There are no instructions with the unit. On the actual ignition box it just says 6 volts. I know alot of the units use 4.8-6V but i didnt try a 4 cell. I'll try to remember to take a picture tonight and post it.

RE: Elect. ignition for Poulan 25cc?
Jim, I have a couple of those ignitions on Ryobis, you'll be pleased. I use the 1/8th inch rare earth magnets from Radio Shack. It does matter which way the magnet is mounted. Just hook up your ignition and pass the magnet over the sensor to figure out which way. I mounted the sensor on a hose clamp with some small counter sunk machine screws and self locking nuts. It makes for unlimited adjustments (at least on the Ryobi). As a note the ignition fires just as about half of the magnet has exited from under the sensor. That might help in where you do the final installation. You are correct, just find your TDC and your 28 degrees BTDC and mount the magnet wherever it fits best. Im not sure on the Poulan but on a Ryobi, using a hose clamp it really doesnt matter, you can mount the magnet anywhere and just move your sensor. Just depends on where you can mount the sensor on that Poulan. Hope that helps...............mark
