RE: replicas
That's awesome. Those bombs look really good. If I had a multi-million dollar restored aircraft I'd buy one for it.[:D]

VOR Radio Navigation
Can someone explain VOR navigation to me a little more? I read a section in a book on it, and I understand that there is a panal with controls like to and from, to say whether you're flying towards or away from it, a heading indictator, and a left right indicator, to tell you whether you should go left or right to get on the heading you've set with the dial. But how do you know what VOR station you're on, and which one to go to next, and how is going from station to station any different than just using the compass or compass card? I obviously have an imcomplete understanding of VOR navigation.

Good! That's great to know, and I certainly ask my first question, but I'd still like to know some full scale forums if you've got em.

Anyone have their private pilot's license here?
If anyone does, could you recommend to me a good full scale plane forum? I'm in training and I'd like to be able to ask questions when necessary. Thanks.

RE: JR, Tower Hobbies Radios
ORIGINAL: polstery This post is a joke RIGHT??
No, it's not a joke at all. They are both FM. And I am trying to refrain from calling you some very rude names right now. I think the whole point of a board like this is to check these things. I'm not stupid. I checked it very thouroughly before flying either plane, and still have not flown either of them with both radios on. When I did the ground check, the TH did not seem to cause interference with the JR, and vice versa, but I still am not going to fly them together. In case you didn't know, JR and Futaba/Tower Hobbies' systems have a totally different way of transmitting signals. A channel 48 for a JR is not the same as a channel 48 for a TH/Futaba. That's why you can't use a JR system with a TH/Futaba buddy box.

JR, Tower Hobbies Radios
I have a Tower Hobbies transmitter and reciever, and my brother has a JR Quattro Tx and Rx, both on channel 48. I know that JR and Tower Hobbies (as well as Futaba) work in different ways, even though they are on the same channel. I tested to see if his plan would pick up on my Tx's signal, and it didn't, but I'm still a little curious and worried. Is it possible for them to cause any interference with each other? I would hate to lose a plane thinking that they don't bother one another, and then watch it plunge into the ground.

RE: Soldering (sp) from a alligator clip to a banana clip?
Yeah it's chrome. Unfortunatly there is only a very small space that the solder could attache to, so I'll have to work on that. Does solder attach to brass and not chrome or something?

RE: Soldering (sp) from a alligator clip to a banana clip?
I'll try it, but the solder hardens as the second you take the gun away, so that might be hard. I might have to get some extra help.

Soldering (sp) from a alligator clip to a banana clip?
I have been trying for the past half an hour to solder an wire that was on an alligator clip to a banana clip, and it simply will not attach! Even if the solder is right on top of both of them, it just breaks away when I try to pick it up. WIll solder only attach to certain metals, or should I roughen up the banana clip where I'm going to attach it a bit or what? I want to solder on a banana clip because having to take the panel off my flight box every time I need to use a starter would get to be a pain.

Engine Mount Problem
I am helping my brother build a Hanger 9 Alpha Trainer for him to learn on, and I'm having some problems with installing the Evolution engine in the mount. The trouble is, the remote needle valve is directly over one of the mount screw that holds the engine to the mount, and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to screw it in. Here are some pictures to show the problem.

Simple Hinge Questions
This is my second plane I've built that I'm helping my brother with, and my TH Trainer came with the hinges already installed, but this one doesn't (Alpha Trainer). Should I apply thin CA all along the aileron or just ontop and below the hinges?

Electric Motor Question
I recently disected a electric motor, and had a few questions about what I saw. I know how they work, but when i hear people say "that's a 40 turn motor" does that mean that the coil has been wrapped around the armature 40 times? Also, what does this do? Make it more powerful? If not, what does it mean, and what does it do for the motor? Also, how do you measure the power of electric motors? Also, I know how brush motors work. But how do brushless motors work and what advantages do they have?

RE: How to put videos from a camcorder on your computer
It is with Windows XP too. I imagine it would be much much much times a billion times harder to do this with 95, 98 2000, or ME. Windows Xp is by far the best. Yeah, I got it worked out. All you need is a Firewire card and a Firewire to DV (also called a 1394) cable. XP already had all the software, so I didn't even need to put in a disk, I just hit OK like 100 times for all the stuff that had to be installed. Then I download Windows Movie Maker, and I am uploading a movie right now! It's that easy. I thought it would be so much more complicated.

I Got My Wings!!
YEA!!! Well, technically I don't have them yet, but today I completed all the requirements to get my wings. I landed 3 times without killing the engine (in a 15mph crosswind!) but on the 4th try it bounced pretty badly and cut the engine off. Does anyone know how I can make a Tower Hobbies Trainer 40 less bouncy? I bounced all three of my landings like twice, but even my instructor who has been flying for over 20 years said it wasn't my fault, my plane was like a frog. On any other plane it would have been nice and smooth, because I brought it in very gradually.

RE: Newbie Questions about Simulator Software
I have Realfligh and I think it's excellent. I highly recommend it, and the tutorial should do you just fine. However, don't think that you don't need an instructor in real life once you've gotten the hang of Realflight. That's a huge mistake. There is so much an instructor can tell you that RF can't. Plus an instructor will save your behind when you screw up after that gust of very real wind comes along, and you plane is spiraling straight at you and you lose control inputs, and it hits you in the face, and you DIE!!! THE END IS COMING!! Ahem, sorry about that....

RE: Magic vs. Four Star 60
I can do all the things my trainer is capable of doing. I don't think it will hold a knife edge for more than a few feet, and I don't know the sportsman patterns. Mind you, I'm not trying to jump into a seccond plane either. I'd much rather do it right than to rush it. And I may not even be looking for a second plane in the immediate future. It may be several months, but I'd like to know what to get when I decide to go for it. From what I'm hearing it sounds like the 4* is better. I guy at my field has one and it looks quite nice; a lot better than in the pictures.

RE: Fixed my plane!
I don't mind the cold, even though its usually 40 degrees or less. What I mind is the wind and whether its sunny or not. You can't deny it's so much more enjoyable to fly on a sunny day than it is to fly on a cloudy, yuck day.
