RE: Global Cutlass 45 new build with MODS
Pete (Blade47) can help you out with the CG (start at post 233 of this thread). Try raising your nose some more if you are having problems rotating. To stop the syphoning, get a clothes pin, sand down the "humps" and clip it on the fuel line when the engine is not running. Don Good luck on the "real" maiden flight

RE: Goldberg Piper Cub Anniversary Kit
It's a contant chord wing. Disassemble the wing tip and the center sheeting (using CA debonder if you used CA, a bit of water on a toothpick if Aliphatic, heat gun for epoxy) Cut the correct slots in the tip ribs for the dihedral brace and then rebuild the wing tip on the current root end. The wing strut mounts will have to be rebuilt into the correct location, just leave the current ones alone, they'll disappear after covering Don

RE: designing and building of the XB-70 Valkyrie, Prototype model construction started.
I once took a Top Flite Holy Smoke and built a big goose neck with canard. I got as far as framing it up and it was a "stand way over there" scale model of the Valkyrie. The military gave me orders overseas so I gave it away...I have no idea if the guy ever finished it. I might just have to try that again as I have 2 Holy Smoke buried in my garage somewhere. Don

RE: Global Cutlass 45 new build with MODS
John, temporarily install the engine, install the prop and spinner and measure the space from the front of the balsa to the back of the spinner. Then choose the thickness of ply that you would need to glue in that space to give you a nice 1/16" spacing. You say you have a 3/8 inch gap, use some 5/16" ply (or balsa/ply combo to give you 5/16") When you sand it all down and you have that slick little 1/16" gap, it'll look so cool. Good Luck Don

RE: New: Beech Baron and Duchess arf
Are these planes in the country yet? I would hate to "pre-order" (which wants a CC #) and then find they aren't going to be delivered. Sorry, I got royally scr##ed a few years back pre-ordering a King Air and Berkut from a guy named Fusco so maybe you can understand my reluctance to "pre-pay" Don

RE: Global Cutlass 45 new build with MODS
You can check your cores for washout before you start gluing on the skins. Just spot glue two scrap balsa sticks at the center line on the root and the tip with about a foot of excess at the leading edge. If they are parallel, there's no washout. If there is no washout, I guess you could always reflex the trailing edge of the aileron (which I think is already in the plan). You could try shimming up the trailing edge of the foam cradle as you let the glue set but there is no guarantee that you'll get equal results on both wings (the foam core will always want to return to it's original cut). If you're really worried about it, you'll need to get the core re-cut with the washout built in. (cha-ching!) Pete? Do you recall having any tip stall spin problems while you were flying this plane? Don

RE: Global Cutlass 45 new build with MODS
John: That's a big "No!" on the Alabama humidity. I lived in the midwest (Kansas) for two years while in the military and I HATED those moist hot summers. Loved the thunderstorms, though! I live on the southwest coast of Alaska so it's not too bad. Right now it's 57F and 50% humidity. If the bugs weren't out it would be lovely outside. I did indeed buy THREE sets of Lee's rotating gear. I have a set for my P-40 (that's not getting built), my Corsair (that's not being built) and my Bridi Shrike Commander (that's... say it with me... not being built).[:o] Oh well, they'll go well with my Cutlass ( which...well, you know the story) Pete: If the contract gets renewed in October, I may have Sylvia ship one of my planes up here. Then, like crack, I will not be able to stop at just one so I'll have her ship another and another and another. Pretty soon, I'll have 100 kits to ship back when I leave and I'll have another $4000 shipping bill when it comes time to leave. We'll see. I have not seen that Extra on top of the car since that one day. I asked one of the National Weather Service guys who work downstairs and he said the guy is local but he doesn't know his name or where he lives. I guess I'll have to keep my eye out and hopefully I'll see him drive by again. What's next on YOUR building board. Keep the photos coming John...I'm building vicariously through your pictures. Don
