RE: Beginner plane???? Need Advise!!
The plane does not fly as stated. Most RTF planes are built on minimums. Perfect day blah blah. I have nitro planes and electric. When the wind gets to high for an expensive plane, I fly a parkzone T-28. I think a perfect plane. Do a search and see what you find. Many forums dedicated to just that. Jets of any style forget about there claims, thay may just mean what they say. A jet Trainer, meaning a pilot that can fly now want to fly jets. When starting you need time to develop coordination, in a jet it happens to fast for you to respond. The t-28, also may be more than you can handle. Luck to you, Al

RE: PO'd about nitroplanes
Hey Carlos, I understand your frustration but this is just the way they do business. We can agree that they have some very good prices on that site. To offer those prices they have to take shortcuts to save money. Here is how it starts They place an order out of china to a non label manufacture, They order most likely 2-4 large shipping containers full. It will take the manufacture a few weeks to fill. Getting to the US by that Slow Boat From China and getting cleared by Customs may take an additional 4-8 weeks. Round it all out to 3 months time lost from the time of order to delivery. They can not at these costs ship by air. It takes about 6months to sell off the items, mean while there simply no re-stocking going on. The next bunch of planes may be very different from what is available just now. I'm sure if you want to purchase that same plane, it will be available from someone else. http://www.grandhobby.com/hchomiedfelt.html - sold out http://www.edfplanes.com/miedfeltw55d.html - Sold Out http://www.ejf.com/index.php?main_page=index&manufacturers_id=36 EJF.com, In Stock n available for Sale. Here is your camera, you will find the prices higher but available. http://www.amazon.com/Agent-Cam/dp/B001UHHGPY Nitro Planes is a very good price point location for all of us to get a great Deal. Please don't expect the same support, or spare parts to be stocked. I don't have any thing to do with Nitro, just a older experienced business man that has watched Nitro planes for the prices and complaints about them. This is all my educated guess......... They simply can not afford all of the fills that we can get from our LHS. I guess you could compare to Costco, buy it when you see it, the same may never be back. Luck to you Al

RE: TopFuel ? 90% Nitro Fuel ? Anybody uses that ?
Hi Nick, I will not give you a recipe for mixing fuel. There are many more items that are also mixed. I would try to contact KLOTZ Lubricants, there are alwys willing to answer that type of questions. Todays fuels are alot different than what we used years ago. Hay try AMA and the net for hobby fuel mixes. Air fuel will always be differant than car fuels due to the heating problems.

Hey Nick, Sorry if I got you confused. Flash point was on other nasty lil chemicals that are no longer evan available in the US any longer. We were using these as blending agents and too lower flash point of a standard mix. I would check around, I think If I were to use a motor at 50% nitro mix, I may get 15 flights on a engine. Just wanted to answer your question, I was not giving you a recipe just some old experience. Al
ORIGINAL: mike early My buddy went to the Toledo show last week He brought back a gallon of 100% Nitromethane. High Dollar. But he plans on making 10 gallons of fuel with it. IF he can find a place to buy methanol.
Hey Mike, try some of the circle gang out there. Midgets, Sprint Caras all use the same. If you need 55 gallon drum easier. Call a local chemical plant. Should be able to find in a local yellow pasges, oh and be sure if you order a drum, you do not need the medical grade. Normal stuff is great. Try Baker Oils if your looking for lube or Klot. Klotz always has some great people to help and advise you on what else you may want. Luck to you. Al

RE: TopFuel ? 90% Nitro Fuel ? Anybody uses that ?
Hello Nick, 90% nitro mmmmmmmmmmmmmm Yes and no. In the late 80's early 90's when I raced here in the USA for a manufacture with 1/8th Scale, on-road, R/C cars. We did some very strange things to insure a good qualify effort. Prior to the EPA, there were pleny of guys in the air also that carried little jars with them that had to be kept on ice. Real Ice the chemicals, many had very low flash points. Liquids that would go from a pretty smooth looking green exposed to heat changed colors to , yes blue azure, real cool looking stuff. But nasty stuff also, DON'T SHAKE THE PRETTY BLUE JAR AT 80f. Things go boom.............. Yes we were crazy back than. To your question. Seemed like most people used 30% nitro content fuel for the cars. More competitive drivers used 40% at normal club racing. National races 50% was the norm for me. This was what we used to race with for 20 minutes if I remember correctly. But for qualifying and the mains seems like if you went for a national win you may have used 60-70% in the race. But the nasty part of qualifying to go for a pole 90% may have been the fuel in the black cauldron type of things. Now does a engine last NO. Fuels of this type tend to be very corrosive to any metal item but to aluminum it was like acid. Do not ever look for an idle mixture or any correct high speed tuning, the motor would never last that long. 5 Minutes was not a sure thing to get from a new than $100.00 stock motor, heavily modified so you paid as much as $500.00 for the best. ROAR was and is the governing body, I just cant see that stuff being done today's world. Look at the class of top fuel, look at the registrations for the class. Seems all of the teams have major sponsors, think why do they do a tear down on every run??? They throw away pistons from a meet at a un-believable rate. Ever at a drag race, ask for one....... On I'm sorry they now sell their new trash for fan that may pay more than the original price on a new piston. We we did use nitro at 90% when someone else pays the bill. I should add the oil for a 90% mix, there was only about 3% alcohol and only 7% oil, no not ordinary oil, oil out of Europe that cost back then $1500.00 a 5 gallon bucket. I don't need to purchase that in today's market Nick Be Safe n' Enjoy Al

RE: NIB Con Rod Slop?
ORIGINAL: Balsacutter I bought a NIB Thunder Tiger Pro .46 off eBay. It sure looks like it's never been run, (the needle valve is still in a sealed plastic bag) but turning it over by hand with no glow plug there's about 5 degrees of "play" at TDC. I've read that new ABx piston/liners "pinch" at TDC, but this seems like a lot of play in a new con rod fit. I'm not a very experienced engine guy, so I don't have a lot to compare this to. Would this be considered within acceptable tolerances for a new engine? I'd keep the engine if people think it was likely to run OK. It's just going on a high-wing trainer, so I'm not looking for the last 100 RPM. Just a trouble free lifespan before I do that lawn-dart manuever again .... Whatcha think? Run it or dump it?
This is completely normal all your are feeling is the piston hitting TDC, time to go. Now as a stated as a novice to these engines, let me share about my hows and where of a ABC set-up like this. I feel that most ABC engines have to be broken in differently than a ringed engine. Remember there is no ring to fit and fill the gaps in the piston and wall of the cylinder. The piston fitting in to a tapered cylinder sleeve is all of the workings of this type of engine for compression. Yes, this type of Engine will not last as long as a ringed engine. It simply wears out the piston and cylinder liner eventfully, but it also mean's that a new piston n' sleeved cylinder can be exchanged very quickly. Oh I for got to tell you, yes it is a bit faster most likely how about a couple of bits faster. All previous is just standard facts, now break in a new abc engine. Start the engine, it should be running a bit rich, not with fuel flowing out rich just slightly. Now because this piston is going up n' down in to a friction compression, similar to a Diesel. I get my plane in the air for cooling as fast as possible. This is why I would not recommend this type of glow engine to a novice. On the ground there is simply too mush heat being generating to do any good for this type of engine. Keep it rich, the second tank lean just a bit on the top end only not to worry about proper idle just now. 3rd tank lean a bit more. 4 tank of fuel get this thing flying at the correct mixture and enjoy the fun. Now I know I may be opening a hornets nest but in racing of every type of 2 cycle engines with ABC piston this is it. We are racing and don't have the time to do other ways. Not throwing old glory days, but yes in the late 60's I was very involved with 2 stroke motorcycles and motor cross racing. Prior to that and again later I raced go karts no not the rental type the racing style 2 stroke motors. I have always bounded back and forth in different types of racing and ABC motor are meant to go fast. Fly Safe n' Enjoy Al

RE: HOBBYCITY SUCKS (HONGKONG)
Hey Alex; I can't believe this is still going on. I truly believe you are secretly suck the life juices from this this forum and inhaling all to make you more powerful. Ha Ha Ha, just kidding but this is going on a bit. I have what you really wanted PROOF that HC is favoring the rich and leaving the rest to be stuck in the mud. Sunday the 4, I placed 3 orders please do not ask why. No I will tell you the first order is for a buddy of mine that never cares when his order arrives, or it may be possible down deep he's too cheap. He ordered 6 flight max battery's for his 500 heli. This is all that is in the order, it was placed about 10 am Est. My orders were placed much later in the night about 9 pm Est. I found that a set of 6 zippys R's that I wanted were all sold out............. [:(] Upset with my self I went about ordering my other items and decided to just purchase 4. Flight Max battery packs. Those are the nice ones I was originally waiting for my use. (flightMax 2200 3s1p 30C) Very nice batteries at under $25.00 a good deal........... But the zippy R's were out of Korea, not China. They seem to be very fimilar to me from an other source. A source I used to use when I was not afraid to pay $75.00 for a 3S pack. Oh Well [:o] I just had to settle for the flight Max, remember the packs I had been waiting for for 3 months, yes those. Finished the order, $6.00 more for Express. DO IT, yes I paid the higher amount. As soon as I was done paying and going back to the HC web site to print a confirmation. Smack me hard, no harder right there in front of my eyes the white no label battery was available. Yes, there were 7 available, had to have them I ordered 6 sets[sm=49_49.gif]. Was I bad, spent next months allowance............... Oh, yes they also were shipped express. 1 order ship registered air and 2 orders shipped express. Last night was the fist movement I saw on my HC on my orders. We did a job on these guys over the weekend, and everything is running slow. With all of the new batteries that came in to stock last Friday, they have been jammed....... Now remember my express shipment carries the same a exact batteries, as my buddy wants. All 3 orders sat under the banner as being processed. It shows finally that my express orders are in the post office and being shipped to the USA last evening. The other air flight is still sitting in "processing". I figure the normal time for express is 3 days............. Well that did not happen, its already 4 days. My registered Air mail shipment normally takes, I find takes 10 days....... Could be longer this week...... My Buddy is not going anywhere and not concerned. I will let you guys go and keep you informed on how this works out. But it seems that the orders spending the extra money, does improve movement on the ground prior to being placed in the plane to us. YES I believe that purchasing express shipping get's preferential treatment. Good luck Safe Flying n' Enjoy Al

The Windshield washer does work very well as long as it is the alcohol base fluid. You can also make up a special sauce on your own for less money. 1 Gallon plastic bottle. 1 Pint rubbing alcohol 3 drops dish washing soap. Fill the gallon bottle half full of water, add the additional ingredients, Shake Do not stir. Fill the rest of the bottle, shake again................. With an old spray bottle total cost has to be under $0.50, the cheapest cleaner available. Thanks for the recipe: Grumpy Old Guy's Secret Sauce

Hey Alex, So sorry that you seem to be the one guy, that keeps getting stuck with HC problems. Funny all of my orders were delivered to me Thursday for my 2nd order and on Friday for my 1st order and my express order. Seems that not just HC, but all of the other shippers are involved also. How can an express order make it half way around the world in 3 day delivery. US Customs, has the order in n out in must be 1 hour, compared to a 4-5 work days to do the same. Also please note orders that are lucky to arrive in SF San Fransisco, clear customs in about a day n half 1-1/2. JFK New York, takes 2 -3 times SF ?????
ORIGINAL: Tamiya Tony I stopped flying for twenty years and started again this past DEC never flew anything but trainers before. Then one day my son talks me into the lhs and I bought a PZ T-28,I spent two days on the real flight sim and off I went.I now have 16 solos on her and it flys great,it can fly fast or slow way down and is very stable,I think you can learn on it as I have.............
I agree with Tony, I have not flown in the last 40 years and found myself wanting to get back into the hobby. I purchased a T-28 PNP list price is $169.00. There is a need to add your own Radio and batteries. The stock $249.00 comes with all Ready To Fly (RTF), but at such a minimum quality. A 1800mAh Battery, When a 2200 mAh is a better choice. Purchasing a real radio on a new 2.4 radio that gives very secure feelings and a real charger. With these other parts, there is always the availability to move to lager planes, You already have what you need. I get it, but do you ??? Both shipment choices are using Air for Delivery, Why the cost difference ?? Do you think possibly the extra cost are associated with paying the government post office fee's to rush the shipment? Or some other help along the way I really don't understand either, but I had an order that I wanted in a rush. I paid the cost of the EMS shipping. 1st notice went to the warehouse, 2nd notice processing, 3rd notice released to postal shipping, 4th notice of shipment in flight. That same day, I had a delivery of my shipment, total time was 3 day's to my hands. 3 days is very quick indeed from the day it was ordered to delivery. UPS ground from IL to FL has taken 5 working days many times. I have had friends that were also notified that the shipment was in customs. Bottom Line, we don't have all of the inside info to judge either way. But we do as Free Americans have a choice as to where and how we spend our money. If we are not happy, lets show them a thing or 2, we can take our business elsewhere. But for me, I continue to save money on purchasing items from HC and will continue to do so. Sorry Guy, You have to sign in and then check your order status to track an order. I do believe in HC and enjoy the discounts they have to offer.

I also live in a country called Florida, I fly 5 days a week. If I have a problem on one of my planes and need a part to fly tomorrow, I use my LHS for the part. I do pay the higher pricing, but I needed correct. Oh when flying 5 days a week, I believe that I am very lucky to do so. In the realization of that flying ability, I have a larger than 1 plane hanger. The fact is I am tight for space and still 4 nitro planes and 5 electrics to get me by. When you order a part on a Thursday, remember it's already Friday there. They do close up on weekends, your order goes into the warehouse and orders start being filled on our Sunday. I placed an order on this past Friday, our Sunday it was processed, released to postal shipping on Monday. I have received a tracking number, looking at the tracking site from the govt. post office stating they will ship on Thursday the 12th.......... I can't tell you why my order is sitting with the govt for 3-4 days prior to being released for shipping. This was not EMS shipping, only Air Mail option. Funny, I already have a message from USPS priority Mail with a US tracking number, just waiting for the package to arrive. I do think HC could improve on the service that is available. HC should accept returns to the USA warehouse. This is and always will be the single best option that HC could choose to assist and improve the service for the consumer. I am very Happy with both the shipping methods and pricing they offer. What I do wonder about is why after all of your problems you go back and order more items ? If they are so bad, why are you still placing orders from them...........

RE: Accucel-6
Current and safety says to use 1.7 amps. The charger works great. Many of the answers can be answered by going to the HxxxxTxxx web site...... it's very good, also be aware many parts of this charger are direct copies of the xxx6 charger (Max,BT) that available all over the web. The charger works very good and is very safe, just follow standard safety rules for charging batteries. This charger charges directly into the battery, The balance plug fits into the other side with the adapter. The battery does not have to be balanced for every charge, only if there is a problem. Use the mode option, the charger is very well protected and will not let you get into too much trouble. Good Luck
ORIGINAL: jonny_hthwy Can anyone tell me the pros/cons of a 5000 mAh pack verse 2 2500 mAh packs wired in parallel? Thanks
Hi, First not to get you confused but I am speaking about LiPo batteries. There are a few differences that you need to be aware of. First a single battery pack is built in series, not parallel. Also most of the time i pack is a bit smaller than using 2 separate packs. So if you have a bit of room to spare you can run 2 2s 2500 packs, but they need to be used in series. My 500 align copter, I use 2- 3s 2200 batteries. I can go either way, there is plenty of room. I use the packs in series, and also charge in series to keep both packs balanced as a complete unit. Also as 2 packs in series, the batteries are less costly than 1 single battery. Have fun, but be very careful if you charge in series. The battery must balance the same battery side as the battery that is being charged. If using a dual charger keep battery # 1 on the left and balancer # 1 also on the left side of the charging adapters. Good Luck, Al
