RE: The Unofficial all things Jet drive thread
I had used epoxy on my fibreglass jet drive, no workie, a good hit on rocks running rivers cracked it and let water in. Goop is the only suggestion I have as it can take the hit and not leak, plus u can pull it out by grabbing with needle nose pliers and twisting it around. Ivan.

RE: Unofficial
I tried actually separating the top and bottom. No workie, tried with acetone etc, cracked bottom hull a bit. Cutting hatch is so far the only way that keeps the strength of the boat together and can be covered up by the lid. Be sure to pull motor tubes out and goop those, plus take heads off and glue those back in properly with goop or some other sort of silicon, the only other two sources of leaks will be the lid itself and the shaft. Ivan.

RE: The Unofficial all things Jet drive thread
Ummm.. just a tip on extending the delta. On a couple boats I had tried this, I never had luck with it. When I did so, 2 boats became skippers. And one of the same boats started to wag, which is more than likely due to the delta not being completely flat. It is very hard to get it perfect. It looked flat to me but obviously not. My suggestion, don't do it. Stay with a short delta. It's very messy and can also mess up ur hull quite easily when you cut so much of the hull and weaken it before trying to glue/epoxy it back together correctly. Ivan.

RE: The Unofficial all things Jet drive thread
Twinjet, when doing up esc, put a different cooler on it, one with water cooling, you can always make your own. Cheaper and can be done same day. The holes in the aluminum are probably meant for air flow from heli. Still great deal. Oh yea. Water proof the sucker otherwise u will blow it. Goop works well, if you go to a proper electronics store, they will have a dip that you can put the whole esc in. Don't drive without water proofing.[;)]

Ur right dragon.[;)] Jet bash and everyone else running in the fall, these things will suck up leaves and they will also get stuck on grates reducing or all together losing prime! Check once in a while! Also snow will do same thing, if u run in snow and ice, sometimes it will build up so much that it becomes a snow cone on grates. Not sure if that's what was happening in ur one video jet bash, as it was running real good for a bit then priming started becoming an issue. Good speeds though! As for diving, my main jet drive boat(delta jet) can sub at least a couple feet if you crank her in a spin till nose catchs... very funny to watch, extreemly surprising the first time, reworking entire boat now, ie pulling out jet drive, going to grate it plus put aluminum plate and tab out back along with flood chamber. Eventually a wireless camera system 900mhz .5watt for up to 10km distance LOS (already have the housing and tx, need to repair one o my cameras).[:D] Ivan.

RE: Unofficial
The only boats I had seen with larger or oversize was... mini-v with... 28 or 29mm drive, thing apparently sunk due to over weight and no foam. Ahhh... there was another, someone stuck in a 33mm graupner in... shockwave 26 i think, the pick up was apparently too far forward. I would assume that would be an issue if u decide to go forward. Theres a couple guys that should bemable to tell ya where the delta should be or max distance. Still the knock off is really well designed... give her a try, see if u can stick one in! Graupner and kmb are both similar, just mild differences... I like the kmb more but it costs a lot more due to euro and insane shipping. Although personally a 3900 40 amper will get the knock off cooking like u see in that video u posted(which btw the way the link doesn't work because u have 2 or 3 spaces at the end of the link). Jet drives can be fast, but generally aren't due to the inefficiency of the system. Takes a lot more power compared to other drives... Good luck if ya go forward![;)]

RE: The Unofficial all things Jet drive thread
There are a few things wrong with 2.4ghz, it does not shoot through stuff such as trees, brush very well when compared to 72mhz (the lower the better). 2.4ghz does not have the range that 72mhz(with all things being equal and just the frequency being different) can have, 1.2km vs 2km and when 2.4ghz cuts out on you, it's difficult to get back(waving ur radio in the air and repositioning doesn't seem that effective!) where as 72mhz would be in and out... Very big plus about 2.4ghz specifically spectrum, no possibility of getting nuked by someone elses radio. For boating most of this stuff should be non issue as we generally don't deal with those ranges, plus because the water has a reflecting ability(for the radio) you should be able to go longer distances with both types o radios.[;)]

Hey jet sprint basher, I've done my inlets like yours on every boat, but a bunch o the guys have ... some sort of fine grill mesh on their inlets, surprisingly this has kept speeds up or close to it, plus they reprime instantly. Don't ask me why, I would have figured the opposite.[;)] Ivan.

Going down a size, sometimes ur lucky if a bit of heat shrink if the size difference is so little, ensure that set screw is locking in a groove and loctite. Other way is to go to hobby store and find brass or aluminum tubing that slips over ur current shaft. Aluminum tubing can be cut easily via flat blade and rolling blade accross top of tubing on table, brass... tube cutter i guess. Ivan.

RE: Unofficial
Wrangle boy, I've tried the 5 min epoxy, no good, chips when hit. Did that with some automotive stuff too, same problem. You want something that holds yet has a bit of flex due to the hits you will implement on the boat. Go with goop, best thing is, it can be pulled out of boat if you ever pull drive out etc. No damage, but still need to do carefully and slowly. The epoxy stuff does not want to come out, u need to grind with dremel for some. If u ever pull out goop, grab needle nose, pinch and bit in the pliers and just rotate the pliers and it will come up off the plastic(or glass). Ivan.

Demon if they are new packs you have very little chance of anything occurring, i've got... geez dozens o lipo's no fires and all of them dunked or wet. I've found no matter what, you always seem to get water in. But as for securing the jet drive, goop, drop some in and use a toothpick or something long and skinny to move around the jet, for the bottom portion at the back of the boat, make sure your in a room with good heat and put a good dollop in there and just have gravity move it around(which means twisting etc). Let dry for 24 and at least the jet drive will stop leaking except for maybe where the drive shaft is(fixes for this too). Also be sure to pull the engine pieces out and goop them back in. the main leakin area will then be your top. Good luck. Ivan.

Hold up Sdgz, what if the whole jet and motor is exposed to air? No cooling should be required, just need to ensure the wiring is waterproofed at the connection points to the esc(which I would tuck into the boat and protect it). Could possibily look pretty cool and be lighter due to no cooling coils/tubing. Prolly need to wd40 the motor every run or so just to keep the bearings juiced.

But I've heard not only grael but another guy on the forum that have said the boat seemed to go faster with a slight introduction of air into the jet. To me it doens't make sense but neither does the grate everyone has been putting on their boats and not only having the same performance but zero repriming issues. Ivan.

RE: The Unofficial all things Jet drive thread
Straty, I've used that exact hull(24.5in), works fine but needs to be very light and all weight shifted directly to the back. For punching rapids though it goes through them more than over. Also it literly does become a torepedo, do a couple spins just right and juice it at just the right moment and it dissapears on a calm pond to I have no idea how many feet. There's some videos on my youtube account of it. Should do some more, havne't worked on it, was supposed to make an adjustable up and down nozzle to see if I could get it to work better in rapids. I had increased the angle of the nozzle but it's just a sloppy way of doing it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BunyVcAaK9Q http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=outMdgjK1HY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N94ocbaCXEQ tail end o this one, this was first river try for delta jet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxvs2gnaP_U stoopid music companys... apparently i need to replace audio on this one. I love the hulls from this company though... I really want to make a jet drive cat from them... there's apparently a 29" model... although the 41" looks tempting too(much more aggressive and could have same diving attributes as delta hull), 29 looks really good. http://cgi.ebay.com/29-Phantom-catamaran-cat-ele-nitro-speed-race-rc-boat_W0QQitemZ140335251840QQcmdZViewItemQQptZRadio_Control_Vehicles?hash=item20aca20180&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262

Try resoldiering the leads, otherwise it's probably a bad esc. I've had a 1 20 amp and 2 25amp esc's from them and have worked fine. But I've also had an issue like yours too... either bad esc or bad leads.

RE: The Unofficial all things Jet drive thread
Grael, when I did up mini me, every gram literly counted. If I were to do it all again, here are things I would do; shorten all the wires, solider wires from motor directly to esc. De sticker everything. You should be able to make nice push/pull steering with braided fishing line... Here's old thread... http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6544301/tm.htm (bunch o videos testing too) Go lighter on esc (smaller), motor... seems fine, but I'm sure there is a motor with even less weight running an amp less, heck at that size I would reduce amp draw to 6amps for motor, that way motor would be even lighter. With that many amps you'll need to cool it (I think if you were pulling 6 or 4 amps I don't believe esc would require cooling. Have cooling plate part of hull so no tubes inside boat would reduce weight. Motor... you might be able to get away with just cooling motor with 2 tubes in and out directly under motor to cooling/mounting plate, keep short as possible as every bit o water sucked into cooling means more weight in boat. Or do no cooling to motor at all and just to 5-10min runs, check heat then figure out what won't burn motor out. Less than 10in is going to be pita to do... what is hull made out of? If you can make your own abs hull I think that would give you the lightest hull(at this size and weight it doesn't need to be too strong even if you do hit stuff with it). Personally I would embed batt and just have her a one run one charge machine, means wires would be short as possible. Get lighter servo... desticker that. 2.3g servos are available... even a 1g servo at hobby city is availabe but its very long but thin(spensive too, but neat). Lemme know, perhaps you can make a second and I'll buy a copy, wouldn't mind trying to make a jet boat under 10in. COG is a huge pita and gets worse as boat gets smaller.[:'(]
