Gratz Bret! He is a great guy and one of the few that has a battle system equiped Imai Elefant. Hope to see that and his KV this weekend at the AAF (if he pulls an all nighter to build it)!

Nice topic! Here are my favourites, well, my only scratchbuilds: KVI (pre-Tamiya production), FT-17 (French WWI tank), Zrinyi I (Hungarian SPG prototype) and Black Eagle (Russian prototype)[;)]

RE: Different Zimmerit question
Many modern tanks use kenetic energy panels or bricks made from polymers or ceramics honeycombed or spaced which basically accomplished the same task while only secondary to anti-balistic defense.

RE: TAMIYA KV-1 - TX ARMOR ONLINE ASSEMBLY
What a wonderful build! Thanks for sharing Tomas. I was happy to see how Tamiya would address some items from the relatively scratch KVI that I modeled a few years ago. I especially like the flash and emitter combination in the barrel, had no idea the bore would be large enough to do that!

RE: Tamiya Leo 2 machine gun led
The machine gun LED is an ordinary LED that gets a pulse signal to flash. If you connected the LED incorrectly (where is there 2.4V? ) then the LED itself may be damaged. Try another LED before returning the unit.

The museum is a great find and the professionalism and hospitality is unequaled. Extensive collection all indoors. Even so nice as to let us RC tankers 'play' in their sandbox! I especially enjoyed seeing the Iraqi T54/55.

RE: All Tamiya recoil units the same?
The recoil units are also different in operation especially the Leopard, it has a spring loaded kick back for realistic firing. It is also stronger and more reliable than the WWII model recoils. I bet it has a longer recoil than the KT as well, Panther (between 1 and 1.25 inches)![;)]

RE: How well does CA glue work?
CA glue in my experience is a better glue than traditional cement, especially for specialty plastics such as ABS which is used in the Leo kit quite often. Additional care must be used as CA is rather quick and permanant!

RE: Battling with a Leopard 2
An option for modern tank battles is to set them all tanks to light and those 'equipped' with ERA or spaced armor set to medium and if active protection like Trophy or Thrush can be set to heavy. It's a different world out there and tank protection is different too.[;)]

RE: Desert Leo
Nice to see more Leo's being modeled, a much under rated model. You guys really show the Leo well with your paint and weathering techniques. The Leo may be the last heavy fighter for quite some time so keep a hold of your models!

RE: cheap tamiya king tiger idler fix
A pretensioned fixed idler is a good solution for most RC tanks. I use this method for most of my tanks. It just makes more difficult removing and installing tracks!

RE: Battling with a Leopard 2
Danville has battles with Moderns like the Leo and any other people bring. It is really about demand, if a couple people show up with Moderns, then modern battles will be had. Personally I have run my Leopard 2 and Black Eagle as much as I care to in NATO or post war scenarios. Most clubs (including mine) adopt a 'run what you bring' attitude, so don't worry about not geting tank time in!

RE: Renault Ft-17
At 6th scale you may want to look at bicycle chain and sprocket for the track movement. This option would be very strong, cheap and assured tracking. Adding the pads may involve spot welding plates to the chain or perhaps a bolted solution could be fashioned. At least the width of track could be anything you wish.

RE: Renault Ft-17
The FT-17/18 was a heavy modification of an industrial tractor. All tractors have the drive sprocket in the rear. If you look closely you can see many similarities in the Renault and a Caterpillar tractor. If you are doing 6th scale, have you thought of how you will do the tracks?

You are correct, it really was about production expediancy (the machined piece). The first King Tigers captured/KO'd in Russia were the machined type.
