RE: E-Flite Micro Beast Bi-plane
OMG! i want one soooo bad! i dont care about the price! i about died when the 100cc beast came out, and then i saw the price tag - i was like "maybe in another lifetime..." so now heres my chance! it looks like it flies very well. (they didnt show it hovering in the video...but im sure that with a BL motor, and a 2s lipo it can. ill start saving now, and by the time i have the $, im sure ill want something else... but whatever. :) this is gonna be interesting

RE: SHRIKE CLUB # 1
wow... so i havent flown my shrike in what seems like 6 months or so... i got a pipe and header for it, but right around then, my engine decided to die on me... it was like a 20-25 year old magnum pro. so i finally said "screw it!" and i picked up a brand spanking new O.S. .25 LA blue engine for it! it will probably be here in like a weeks time or so. i cant wait! i lucked out, because the old engine quit on me before i got a chance to fully tune the pipe - so as long as the bolt pattern for the header lines up with the new O.S. engine, (ive been told it should) i will be able to tune the header to the new engine! :) so its gonna be a long time before i get the chance to fly her again.... between school, and having to re-work the front end, and tune the pipe and all, im hoping ill have it flying at speeds well over 100 MPH in a month's time. :) anyone have any experience with this engine on a shrike? ill post a link to the particular one that i bought....http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemID=670388 im so excited! my first ever brand new, OS engine!

hey super08, i saw yours in the pilot repository thread. :) i like what you did with it - it worked out perfect huh? but im worried (lol - what else is new :p) about getting the firewall back in correctly. was it hard to measure, and glue it with the correct thrust angle? and where did u get the extra 1/2" standoffs? does that mean u needed to buy longer bolts? thanks man i cant wait! ok yall... heres a dumb question: what is an acceptable throttle servo for this engine? does it have to be MG? how many oz. torque? thanks again yall :) Helifryer

cool. thats the one that i was planning on going with for flying this baby :) (i love xoar props... overpriced, but damn! - they look good :) haha) problem...: Chief has that prop temporarily out of stock. :( but they do have a vess 19" prop in the 19A and the 19B. anyone know if either of those compare to the xoar 19x8? thanks Heli

hey guys. im about to get a Pilot 26% Yak, and stick a new v2 DLE30 into it. ive been flying 3d for a while now, but this is my first gasser. so ide like to know - what prop should i get to break the engine in with? and then - which prop has been decided as best for 3d flying? (hovers, harriers, blenders, and stuff like that. - lots of vertical. :) ) thanks yall Helifryer

hey yall. im looking to buy one of these yaks, and stick a new v2 dle30 in it. (getting the green and black scheme from chief - if they ever get back in stock....:p ) my questoin is: Servos: can i just use Hitec 5645 MG's on all the control surfaces? or is it absolutely necessary to have a HS7955TG on the rudder? (i plan on 3ding this plane...) also, what can u use for a throttle servo? how many oz. torque? MG? thanks yall! Heli

quick turn, thats like the exact same pipe i got for mine! thats a good sign i guess. is the speed/rpms worth the weight penalty? (its an OPS 3,5 speed pipe right?)

RE: SHRIKE CLUB # 1
yep. i ordered a header from tower today. got a $10 discount too! (the $10 discount code that i had expired in feb. tho...but since i had some free time, i sat there and "adjusted" the coupon code (guessing randomly) untill i did eventually end up getting a $10 discount! haha! ) the code that worked was was 010A5 - its good for $10 off a purchase of $29.90 or more. (i had to buy two props, and some fuel line as well in order to meet the $30 since the header was only $25...but once i got the discount, the total with shipping was $26!) so i hope that coupon code will help someone else out. im trying to decide if i want to put the pipe on the bottom or the top of the plane...its looking like on the bottom might be easier, but idk...dont want to be messing it up ereytime i land.... i might have to re-drill my firewall to adjust the motor mount. right now, i have the engine on a 45% angle to the right, so the exhaust is just barely going under the wing. (and awww crap... ill probably have to move some stuff around to re-balance the planes CG...i hope that the pipe doesnt add too much weight... i cant wait till it all gets here! i think ill fly the shrike once without the pipe, just to make sure that i did actually put everything back together right, then maybe once the weather cooperates, and my schedule frees up, ill fool around with the pipe and see if i cant make this thing go ballistic! haha

RE: SHRIKE CLUB # 1
ok. thanks for the tips man :) (your shrike looks awesome! ) i will go ahead and add that bracing in the tail. cant hurt anyhow....(might throw off my balance a bit though....) i have some fiberglass cloth. ill go ahead and use it on the root of the wing like you did. (thats a good idea! ) and i think i might also use some fiberglass cloth at the spot where the tail section connects to the main body. i also just noticed that my shrike doesnt have the sheeting on the wing like urs does....i might add that too. so tomorrow after school i might head to the hobbystore. looks like i need: -balsa for repairs, adding bracing, and sheeting (not expensive right? balsa is pretty cheap) -balsa filler for smoothing things out -covering (duh) to cover the plane with. i need to decide on a covering scheme! aaaah! thanks man!

RE: SHRIKE CLUB # 1
WOW CHIEF! looks good so far! heres what advice i have to offer based on my experiences with foamies and what little experience i have with this plane: -if ur gonna have landing gear, then its fine and dandy to go ahead and use dual aileron servos. just make a spot to put one under each wing. BUT: -if u have no landing gear, then i would not use dual servos! everytime you land you run the risk of hanging up on one of the servos/horns which can do big time damage to your plane, and stripp or rip out your servos. its not worth it. (plus, it looks much better with just the one servo hidden in the fuse, and no control rods/horns showing - much less draggy - sleek lookin [;)] ) but thats just my two cents. Heli

using an APC 8 x 5 on my magnum pro .25 with a regular muffler thingy. plenty of power - but i wanna go faster! [:)] i plan on moving up to an 8 x 8 once im more comfortable with flying this bullet! [:D] does anyone know where i can find something like an online motor calc. that will tell me the best prop for speed? or does anyone wanna tell me what their magic prop is? also, i dont have a tach. anyone know how to make one? (im not about to shell out for one just so i can know how many RPMs im turning for no good reason....[8|]

RE: SHRIKE CLUB # 1
alright! maiden successful! today i took er down to the local field (RAMS) and there were a bunch of other guys there all flying gassers. there was even a guy there with 2 turbine jets! man those were fast! so i ended up having to put 2.5 oz. of lead in its butt to make it fly. other than that, it was great! no torque roll of takeoff. only took a minute to trim it out (i had my friend move the trims for me - i was a nervous shaky mess! lol ) i greased it in for the nicest landing of my life! (second go around though - first time was a little too long) i couldnt be happier! so now, the motor needs some fine tuning. i also need to adjust my elevators control rod, because it took almost all the up trim i had. lastly, i need to get into the wing, and reenforce where the wing meets the fuse. the wings are just a little flexy... im worried about more speed! HERES THE KILLER: my dad coudnt figure out how to work t he video camera! there is no video! AAGHR! [&:] so next time around ill have to take pics, and video. [8|] all things considered, a really good day! Heli

RE: SHRIKE CLUB # 1
ok. the wingspan on my shrike is just a little over 35" so i think that it is the .10 size. the CG seems like its going to be about 3/4" noseheavy. but that shouldnt require too much tailwieght. ill give the packing tape over the hinge lines ida a try. Heli

RE: SHRIKE CLUB # 1
yah. i was thinking about that (ive heard of a lot of planes killed my flutter) but i dont have any covering. and im not about to go buy a $12 roll just for that purpose. can I use clear packing tape do you think? it would be prettymuch invisible, and sticks to the covering really well. i think ill try that.

RE: SHRIKE CLUB # 1
ok! got a lot done today! (as much my supplies would allow) [:D] all the servos are in, and all the control surfaces are linked, and centered. i managed to just barely fit those three huge servos in snugly. i also installed a on/off switch for the battery - mainly cuz just i had one. now, hopefully the plane will balance ok. [8|] tomorrow after school ill be making an expedition to the local hobby shop up in King NC to get: - a spinner - some props - fuel lines (colorful!) - a fuel tank - a rx battery - maybe even a spektrum ar500 - hardware (skrews/nuts such) to mount my motor and motor mount moving along smoothly!
