RE: Flyeagle F18F
Hi Guys Well yesterday I did trials in the garage as in running the Turbine , Three runs keeping in mind -38.5 below C here in Alberta Canada so the heat was turned up !! Today balanced the A/C @ 170mm from leading edge as outlined by most , the weight came in as 46.0 lbs , I cut the nose off and will install the two ECU batteries & a little weight , I am awaiting two new canopy's from FE . as I destroyed the original by trying to speed up the drying process . Its a small price to pay ! I am going to start to try and find different springs as I believe most of gear problems are from the cylinders bottoming out due to the weight , I know some of you use the Yellow gear and they seem to look like a better choice , If there is any gear better than the kit supplies Please let me know . Cheers Nate

RE: Flyeagle F18F
Alan Nice Flight on second link , after 6.27 minutes you sure where lucky ( ran out of fuel ) ???? the A/C looks just great ! the weather was pretty good as well , what airport are you flying at ? weather here in Canada is about to change we are expecting snow any day now , Any way swinging gear today and ready to close up a few goodies in the cock pit area , and then ready to run the turbine . I ran the 450 this spring and I need to before year end just to remind my self of the Brut power . haha . any way your A/C flies good , it sure looks good in the air . Cheers Nate / Canada / Edmonton AB

RE: Flyeagle F18F
Hi Guys It's been awhile , I have finally made time to close up the F-18 , It's been very interesting to read as always the info posted on the site in the builds that have been going on , the clips sent in are and have been the instrument in me getting back to getting things done , as for the 450 turbine its been received, ran & it runs like a bull quick & deadly . I purchased a new radio Futaba 12Z and like the new refinements they have made , for all of you flying the Fly Eagle your posts[:D] are fantastic , I have made quit a few modifications to the A/C and hope to have it ready to run before month end . Cheers Nate / Edmonton AB / Canada

RE: Flyeagle F18F
Oliver What you have done is sandwich the plate in between the two pieces of ply , good Idea ! But , I do not want to be replacing the plates along the way , I have reinforced the main blocks with carbon fibre and the blocks have G- plate glued to the bottom hopefully this will suffice , I will start to look for different springs for the inside of the struts too give me more throw and not bottom out as they do from the MFG, I would like to see the remaining 3/4 of a inch get used up . I will post some photos this week as I have the flaps & ailerons drying today , the new so called 2nd generation wings are they ply & balsa inside built up ? I heard you speak of foam ?? One of the problems with the F-18 C in Canada was that a negative angle of approach on take off with full fuel and full armament you had to rock it to maintain positive incidence to gain lift , we destroyed one in 1983 in Cold lake due to that fact , So having said that , I want to try and get the most from the strut extension to get positive incidence as it sits now I do not . Your movie looks good , I fell you need more flap and better fuel management , As for take off NOT BAD , once you get the noise gear issue cleaned up transition will be gentle . what turbine do you have ? RE: Flyeagle F18F
David Question :: I am installing brand new Hi Tech HS 7950 TH servos all around Today I powered up the tail section & the elevators are jumping up & down ,unless I put some pressure on them they stop . I am using a HFP - 20 programmer , am I doing anything wrong , or is it just not enough power ?? Rudder servos are just fine . Nate

RE: Flyeagle F18F
Oliver I have G Plate 1/8 thickness on all of the landing gear blocks as indicated in your page 61 of the forum ,as well I did a lay up carbon fiber & epoxy top and side walls , I think that over kill due to the fact that I also used another 1/4 inch ply both front and rear of the new gear blocks installed with Hysol glue , One thing I noticed on a set of gear blocks that some used a piece of G plate or a build up of glue was used , From what I understand this is to angle the gear frame on the attachment blocks to give a wider stance , I did notice the wear and damage to the gear housing , is this the fact that the uneven attachment points to the plates is causing this type of fatigue due to improper mounting of the gear frames . (not being flush to the blocks ) ? I also noticed that the countersunk screw had some lateral play and oblong wear in the aluminum housing , In past did FEJ manufacture a gear kit ? I had a gear kit sent to me from Ted & CY in Ontario Canada , was this something the Canadian Boys made or was it shipped from James at FEJ ? do you know anything about this ? Also as I said before I think that your input to this form is outstanding ,It has answered allot of my Questions . All you have to do is read out side of the box !! Nate

RE: Flyeagle F18F
Kevin & All Do you have a brief outline on how you balanced your Stabs . I am only interested in the procedure , And by the way To all : as I wrote before Oliver I signed up with RCJI , I believe in supporting this hobby and hate to see Info of this caliber go wasted ! something the MFG should get in tune with ASAP ! By the way late night reading was a success . It makes me feel good that I had implemented two of your Heavy Duty procedures Landing gear using the west 124 system carbon fiber top and bottom on gear plates & tank reinforcements using the same method . Cheers Nate

RE: Flyeagle F18F
Well Merry Christmas to all : My mane is Nate R . I live in Edmonton Alberta Canada , I am building the Tiger meet F-18 1/6 , I have now over the last three days taken the time to read all 63 pages of this build & purchase forum . It has been very enlightening but that's what a forum is for , Oliver thanks for the info passed the other day to get your three issues from RCJI , but unfortunately 100.00 us is to much to pay , I have had the pleasure to install the mod kit supplied from FEJ to widened the main gear stance and it works well and definitely beefs up that section of the A/C , as for the noise section leg, the servo frame does interfere with the cock pit kit so I will install the cables , I fitted the USA version of the AMT 450 it fits well and everything is in the back except the Boost pump and UAT , I did follow up with the carbon fiber in the Flap & aileron cutouts so hopefully there is more reinforcement at that location : now there is definitely a lot conversation on the tail pipe as well . you can order three different versions of the pipe , I believe that if you want strength & not have a weight issue you look for different metals both in thickness and integrity , I will order the tams unit but will complete ground runs on this unit . I am using a calculated Cof G spread sheet and the Cof G comes out to 174.8 is not a big deal , depending on the temp and winds as well altitude . Can any one flying the A/C give me their true settings I am using a Futaba radio . By the way I appreciate all the info on this site it really has helped me allot I will post some photos soon . Nate
