OK that does it, I am getting an MSR!! LOL Laser, your posts are fun to read and it is a sure thing you are addicted to the hobby now. Just like many of us. It IS so much fun in the long run. The challenges, the accomplishments. The thrills and spills. No describing it to someone who has never gotten into it. Good luck my friend. Keep the 450 going, you won't be sorry. Later!!!

My 2cents? I have 20 orders from HobbyKing and no glitches yet. Some very great deals there, just watch the weight and do the math like mentioned in the other posts. One note to 450 Heli flyers. Ehirobo's CopterX 450AE V2 heli for $59.99 is a great quality machine!! I got two of them. Matched with some HK electronics it is a deal. Great flying machine too! I grabbed some of Ehirobo's 325mm Carbon Hobby blades and was pleased with them.

LOL!!!! Oops. Sorry. I musta been somewhere else when I was posting that post Laser. HA!! I don't drink or do drugs so I have no excuse for that one. Got out and flew my Blade today. It is 50 degrees and only a slight breeze. No crashes or sudden power failures. I didn't push it as hard either. I do have a skip in the motor it seems. Not sure what that is caused by and will be doing some investigating. No skip in idle up though. Hmmmmm.... Have fun!!!

RE: Just got my new heli and crashed it. Several questions.
4G3 is a small collective pitch Heli that I do not have but thought about a few times. I have the fixed pitch bird and man it is a handful to fly sometimes. Setup setup setup. VERY small parts too. Anyway, I still enjoy flying it and you should get a lot of training with it. If you can fly one of those around. You can fly anything. So small and tough for the most part. I got better by flyling my 4#3B. When I got outside to fly my 450 class bird, it seemed a lot easier to manage. I am told that the 60 and 90 class nitro birds are even easier. But a mistake on one of them can set you back the cost of several brand new 450 helis. If you got the money to invest it them, you probably will be more careful to not crash. But crash you will and it will be spendy. I was warned to go with the top of the line stuff in the beginning and probably could have done better with it. I found clones of the top of the line stuff and it is not the same, but close enough for me. Not as spendy either. On the 4G3 I would recommend going brushless all the way. Double motor may be better from what I have read. Do some research on it, but it should be as tough as the 4#3B I have. The trouble with my 4#3 is the tail motor seems to give me trouble with wires breaking off at the motor. But bouncing it around as much as I do, I don't blame them for coming off. LOL!!!! I got quiet good with it over last winter. Good luck in your endevors to purchase a used 4G3 at a descent price.

RE: Just got my new heli and crashed it. Several questions.
Laser.... Thanks for the tip on the parts supplier. Seems like a good Ebayer to deal with. I have 5 kids (three now grown) and I invested in rechargables a looong time ago. LOL I have quite a few AA and AAA rechargebles. It has saved me a lot of $$$ in buying batteries in the long haul. Just got back from Texas (I live in Washington State) but I haven't had any time to fly and the weather is spotty. Since I have some time on my hands I will probably look into mods and tweaks for my helis. I have to be careful on the wallet since Xmas is around the corner, so I will look into things that cost next to nothing to do. Maybe paint a canopy or two. Get my stuff organized, etc. I got the itch to fly, so I will jump on the sim soon. LOL But I just got to get the real deal up soon too!!! I'm a addict to flying them now. LOL!!! Anyway, hope you are hanging in there and got things working for ya. I am seriously wanting a MCX for christmas. I need one that I can just program into my DX6i radio and fly though. Maybe for early Xmas gift. I have lots of spare parts now so I won't be ordering much for a while. Unless I start being silly and crashing a lot. LOL! Feel free to PM me any questions you have. I will try to help or at least give my 2cents worth in my answer. I am sure you are skilled at finding answers by the way you have spoken. But just in case. MOST OF ALL..... HAVE FUN!!!

My replies to your request seem a bit confusing I think. Here is a breakdown of the various bearings. I realize you didn't want all of them but maybe you will at some point need to refer to them? The 3800kv Motor is a fairly powerful motor that draws the amps. I use 40amp with seperate bec on them and have no problems. Anyway, here is the breakdown on bearings in 450V2 heli and the 3800kv.

RE: Just got my new heli and crashed it. Several questions.
OK, I got the Blade going. You may have noticed the CNC head. It is a 450 V2 head from CopterX. All I did was swap out the swash plate and main shaft to make it work. It flies pretty well with the 3800kv motor I have in it. Awsome tight manuevers in idle up. Fun, Fun, Fun!! I think I overheated my ESC last time, so I am going to put a seperate UBEC on it to see if that cures the problem. I didn't notice if it was too warm when I started the third pack, but I didn't give it any rest either. Laser!! Brother Heli Pilot!! Warning!!! Do not try to fix/modify your blades on your heli, as all hell could break loose and you can get hurt or at the least, crash the bird. I modified (once and once only) a set of main blades to fit the Blade holders cause the plastic add-on part at the bolt hole was too thick. (originally for Blade 400 holders) I removed it and put in brass fitting through the hole of the blade. (wood blades). Well, I spun it up to check the tracking and it just exploded and smacked me a good one and tore hell out of the head and bird.[X(] The brass fitting split the wood in one of them and flung it off. It could very easily have went right into me instead of flying across the house and damaging the wall, killing me or maiming me for life. I got off lucky with a bruise and a hard lesson. I have had unseen tail blade fractures that caused me a crash when it slung one of the blades off in flight. I brought it down in a spin, but still couldn't avoid some light damage.[:@] I don't recommend repairing a cracked or broken blade in any way. Not safe "period". Well, I'm going to go on vacation, good luck with the cra errrr learning curve on flying around with your heli. LOL[:D] [;)]

I know the feeling!! I was flying my blade today. I was on my third battery pack and it just shut off in mid air about 40 feet up. Spun down and nosed into the ground on a dirt road behind my property. Busted the nose a bit and broke my lipo battery. Battery caught fire (one of three cells only) and melted stuff. Here is a couple pictures. I am starting to think my Blade is cursed. LOL!!! I didn't get all the smoke and stuff because I was busy unplugging it. All is working except the battery. hehehehe!!!!

RE: Just got my new heli and crashed it. Several questions.
That is great!!! You will notice that at about 6 feet up the air is more stable for hovering when it's calm. Closer to the ground gives ground wash effect and such. Yep, I killed a few batteries running them too low. I am thinking I should get an alarm for them so that I MAYBE could hear when they are low if I happen to push it a bit too far. I have a timer on my receiver that goes off, but a few times I miss guessed the setup on my bird and it was going dead waaay before the alarm. It gets funner and funner. I got a Lama4 co-axial for in da house and a 4#3B Walkera fixed pitch (very small). Heck, I even have a co-axial china special flashy heli too. Get them for $20 delivered. They are popular with the kiddies. LOL I started with just a little box too. LOL!! I became obsessed and two years (and some bucks) later I got what I showed you. Happy Flying!!!

RE: Just got my new heli and crashed it. Several questions.
Sounds like you have the pitch perfect to me now. [:D] Who needs a stinking pitch gage! [8D] Ahhhhhh, the radio is like the 22E/Eagle 50 birds. I have one of those too. You have them figured out too. But a manual for the 22E/Eagle 50 will have info on these controls. I haven't flown my 22E in forever. It is in intensive care in a box somewhere from my last flight/mangle. Flying my HK450 this Sunday, somehow my elevator servo (HXT900) stripped a gear in 3D mode. I was tic-tocking it and suddenly lost that control. Luckily was close to the ground and it went down (with me like a mad man on the sticks) without a major smash. Bent the main shaft, but not the feathering shaft. Broke a blade and somehow a couple teeth off of the tail drive shaft and main drive gear. Fixed it in an hour and was back in the air. Lots of little things that can go wrong in these things. Keeps it interesting. Those vids are great and they are free!! Lots of help and info in there. Finless Bob is a great guy for doing those. Have fun and happy flying! This is a picture of my hanger a few weeks ago. Always changing a bit though. LOL

RE: Just got my new heli and crashed it. Several questions.
I straighten my flybar most of the time. If it gets too kinked, I replace it. Balancing is helpful, but tracking is the most help. Be sure you track your blades. I usually eyeball it, but sometimes I put a contrasting piece of tape (white, pale colors, etc.) and use a laser pen pointed at the blades to identify the lower or higher blade. The brighter dot will be the one with the lighter tape. (Or in the case of white blades and black piece of tape the one without the tape) Correcting tracking will effect the pitch curve some. Blade pitch 101 is a good thing to vew in the links for beginners on my previous post.[:D] OK.... I'm outta here.[:D] Take care and good luck!!!

Be careful that if you reverse things that you didn't mess with the gyro settings. If you reverse it, it will make you spin out fast. I have done this a couple times, by not making sure the gyro was responding correctly BEFORE lifting off. LOL!!! I hold the heli and swish the tail back and forth and watch which way it is compensating. The back side of the tail blade should turn the direction you move the tail. The front part of the tail blade should cut the air in opposite direction of tail movement.

From my learning experience.... A few more tail booms and boom supports are handy to have around. Be sure to check Heli set-up real well. Here is a few links that may help. [link=http://www.slyster.com/heli/trex450bible.html]450 Bible[/link] and [link=http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=41692]Beginner setup tips[/link] Hope they help, they did for me. This is an addicting hobby!! [:D] Expensive for beginners, but even pros have their bad days. LOL!! (I'm not a pro by any stretch) Backflips, tic-tocs, rolls.... about it. FUN THOUGH!!! LOL! [:)] But I crash often enough too. [:@] I fly Trex clones HK450 from Hobby City and CopterX 450AE (all aluminum version) from Ehirobo to keep costs down. Parts from Hobby City take time but are worth the wait sometimes. Then some EXI parts from Xheli for quick fixes. All 450 compatible of course. It is a learning curve for sure. [;)] I am most pleased with the CopterX 450AE kit that for $82 Delivered was a fairly high quality bird. I equip these birds with G401B gyro, DX480 tail servo, Hextronic MG14 (all metal) on cyclic. These electronics cost (for all of them) around $80. Then I put in a $50 6200e Spektrum receiver for my radio (DX6i). So... about $210-$220ish for the bird. Ehirobo had some very good Carbon City 325 blades for a decent price. Good quality. I have bought some as low as $11 dlvd, but the quality was not up to high standards. Yet they (after balancing) flew quite nice. Cost not a problem? Go with the Align, Esky, or name brand of your choice. [;)] Good luck and mostly HAVE FUN!!

RE: hobbymate 3800kv brushless motor
I have 4 of the "Hobbymate 2835 3800kv motors". I have had some bad crashes and most of my crashes are in dirt. Sooooooo, I blew out a few bearings and broke a couple motor shafts. OUCH! I have fixed them both (the two wrecked ones) and installed sealed bearings in all of them. I built my own shaft for the motors by purchasing stainless steel 1/8 inch (3.17mm) stock rod and cutting it to specs with a dremel. Broke in the bearings since they are a bit tight with the grease packed and sealed at factory. They are performing well, and I couldn't be more pleased. Note on the shaft. I did not put back the fixing clip, nor cut a groove for one (weak point of break in first place). I did put just the smallest amount of Blue loctite on the bearing shaft holes. It holds well, and I was able to remove the bearings from the shaft later (test run). Cutting flats on the shaft was a snap too. [:D] Rod stock was very cheap fix. A foot of it cost less than a buck. The bearings (green sealed) were close to $9 for the two. Parts for upgraded Hobbymate 2835H 3800kv motor: 1- "R2-5-2rs Bearing" 1- "R144-zz" Bearing" 1- "49.5mm stainless steel rod" from rod stock for shaft. Love the performance of this motor with a 12t pinion!!!! 11t tames it down a bit if you feel a need. [:D] Hope this helps anyone with the same problem of broken shaft or worn bearing. [;)]

RE: Walkera 22E Lets Talk
Cen, good to hear from you too. [:D] I live up to my name cause I have always put the cart before the horse. I manage to get through, but it is usually rougher than it should have been. I dropped my blade into a pond because a servo went out in flight. [:@] I think I won't fly over a pond any more. LOL!! It survived it all. I blew it off with a air hose for ten minutes. Two servos had a bit of moisture in them, so I cracked them open and set them out to dry out for a day. Receiver, gyro, servos (except the failed one) are all working normally. WHEW! 4#3B is still flyable, but I have been so wrapped up with the larger ones lately that I have set it aside. It will see more time this winter though. [:D] My copter X 450AE arrived and I put most of it together in a couple hours. Just need the tail servo I ordered and to put a receiver and motor into it. Oh yeah, I need to set up the head so the pitch is ok and all is in alignment. Like Philly, I want to know more about your gasser. [:D] I might try one some day. Happy flying to all!!!

So far I couldn't be happier. They have descent prices and the spare parts freight rate is great for when you just need a few extra parts. JD, well I can't say I don't like it (The KingII). I just never would have bought it. Now that I have it, I changed it to brushless and upgraded head to metal. blade holders still plastic though. I have yet to put much flight time on it, but it handled a lot like my 22E when I first flew it. I think maybe I will get the 2.4ghz Eagle (same as 22E) to revive my 22E from the grave (spare parts). I have fond mangling memories of the 22E.[:D] I almost clipped a bird the other day. You know how they like to mob hawks??? Well they must have thought it was a hawk and came swarming in on my Heli at 150 feet up. I spun it around and they scattered. I managed to chase one a few yards. LOL!! Simio, welcome to the world of mangling helicopters. LOL! I went CNC early in my bird and bent it up pretty fast. I'm not sure what to say about it. I could probably do better now, and get more out of the parts. But I smacked it around a lot and it got pretty sloppy. I went half-metal and half plastic for a while and it wasn't bad for a bit. This forum has grown into a montster size posting, but you can find a wealth of info and tips here by scouring through it. JD, I can tap the fixing plate ok, I just cant put a small hole through the shaft with my tools here. Maybe I can use a drill press and vice at out shop one day. I used Blue loctite and Red loctite on the set screws but somehow I have managed to cause the shaft to spin inside anyway. Then I end up stripping out the aluminum when I try to over-tighten the set screw. It is all a matter of my flying skills and such. LOL! I always get ahead of myself and try something bold or tricky beyond my skill level. One mistake at some of the speeds the thing can get up to it's into the tree or the fence. LOL! RE: Walkera 22E Lets Talk
Thanks for the input cen and jd. It's appreciated. Cen, yes the 4#3B is a fun little bird. It also helped me learn how to handle helis. I'm far from getting much out of them yet. Figure 8s and a couple nose in flyings, but I almost crashed it. I just can't help but ZIG when I should ZAG. LOL! I really like flying the 450 size helis too. They are my latest obsession. Spendy to fix when you smash them though. Unlike the 22E JD. [;)] The 22E is not that bad when you figure out what to do with it as far as set-up and such. Half the battle is getting it set up correctly. Once again, you guys here have been helpful either directly or indirectly in this forum. I still wish I could find way to solve the easily messed up fixing plate for attaching the main gear to the shaft. I tried to drill a small hole so if it does twist, it will shear the little bolt, but it is like drilling on a diamond surface with a small bit! LOL! Crashed my HK450 in the wind today. Let it get blown behind me over my fence, lost site and orientation and smacked a branch on a tree, then the ground came up suddenly upon my home built bird. *sniff* hehehe!! Still learing lots and lots to learn yet. 22E? I still got it in a box (dirt, grass, rocks and all) I also have a lot of parts. Just not the right ones. Oh, I could get it up an going again, but I need a new rotor head assembly (complete). It's been pieced together so many times it is hard to get set up. Too much slop. I will fix it eventually though. GOT TO!! Take care gang. TIME TO FLY!!

Cen, I hear you on the 2.4ghz, it is so much more reliable and distance is great too. But, it teaches you to really be on your toes with the ole lower band. LOL! Fixed the 22E and took it out back. Bad idea, because I had the 3800kv brushless motor still in it. Also the parts were just not up to the task. I "Mangled" it again. hit the fence doing about 25 mph sideways. Ended up in the neighbors yard in several pieces. I am going to fix it again, only I think I will go ahead and put a whole new head assembly in it. CNC maybe, not sure yet. OR, I could buy a transmitter-less 2.4ghz version and go from there. I use my 4#3B transmitter on a blazing star I installed the 2406 receiver into. One switch on the back of the transmitter HAS to be thrown or it will go backwards instead of forward and vice-versa. I forgot that a couple times now and it was not pretty. LOL!! I was running for my life one time. HA!!! Flying too close. A point of safety for anyone reading my post. DO NOT try to modify a wooden blade on large helis. If it doesn't fit, find the right blade that will. PERIOD. I almost killed myself when one flew apart on me on a test spin up to adjust tracking. WHEW!! luckily it ricocheted before hitting me in the arm. It just blew up and came apart. Not even close to half throttle. I have a scar to remind me how dangerous these things can be. What was I thinking???

RE: Walkera 22E Lets Talk
Hey guys... I have my 22E on life support. I was getting cocky and flying in the wind and crashed pretty hard. Tail First!! grrrrrr...[:@] I has helped me learn a lot about flying heli's though and it was my first so, I can't seem to scrap it yet. I have since moved on to a Blade 400. I also put together a HK450 that I currently am enjoying a lot. Was flying it in the wind in the back-yard and I had a blast. Hey to cen, philly, jd and the gang!! Thanks for all the tips and info. It was priceless!! I will send money as soon as my hobby lets me. LOL!! [:D] Funny one. I put a 450 size motor in my 22E.... waaaaay to much power and I tried real hard to keep the head speed reasonable. With the lowest tooth count I could scrounge up. I think it was a 10 tooth. Anyway, back to the standard brushless motor. It was just fine! I am seriously thinking of buying a 2.4ghz version 22E and using the other parts for spares. It is fun to fly and mangle these past few months. hehehe!! Later gang!! Thanks again for everything!

RE: Exceed Blazing Star......Your experiences..??
Hey guys, I have had a blazing star for a while. At first I found it very difficult to get set up and fly. The receiver and transmitter just don't work well in any type of minor interference. I think even cell phones would cause me problems. Anyway I crashed it slot and broke blades often. So I ordered a walkera 2.4ghz receiver for it. 2405 I think. One used for the 53#1. I happened to have a transmitter from my walkera 4#3B. One dip switch setting flipped on the elevator servo control and I was in business. It was just a matter of minor tweaks and extent setting and I was hovering around in my house . Took it outside on a calm day and it was easy and fun to fly. But recently I got brave and took of out around some buildings on a breezy day and the swirling wind had me waaaay off my flight plan. LOL! I was fighting the turbulent drafts and it was hard to get turned back to me but I did, only in a down draft that made me try to pull back to fast on the stick and BAM. Broke the blades at fifty feet and thiry miles an hour. It sits in pieces in a box till I oreder about $35 worth of parts. LOL!! So, I am sold on 2.4ghz radios and receivers. Bind and fly. One transmitter can be used for many birds. Go that route when buying any new bird. It is worth the extra dollars in ease of use and less problems in flight. Good luck and happy flying. I love my little 4#3B but that's a different thread post. LOL
