RE: London Olympics are fantastic!!
Great thread! These people that don't like it or don,t get it should have read the title better. London has been better to watch then all the rerun and other crap on TV. Plus, most of the stuff is just amazing to watch, almost mesmerizing

RE: Maybe the Tower Hype is True?
My problem is all the foam crap they sell. And I really miss looking at all the kits they used to sell. They replaced 20 pages of kits(circa1988) with 20 pages of foamies and arfs. Oh well, at least there are still plans and balsa available for now, although I heard that they build wind turbine blades out of balsa......that can't be good for the price of balsa / modelers.

The news isn't really the news anymore mostly. Its' what "may" happen, or could "happen", anything to sensationalize something, keep the sheep scared maybe. baaa. Really, it sucks listening to these bobble heads and trying to wade thru the B.S. that they are spewing. Propaganda for somebodys adgenda I suppose.

No way I would pull mine out. Good ol' ni-cads for me, no fuss no muss (what is muss anyhow) . 1700mah gets me through the day every time and thats if I only take and fly one plane.

Some mustangs will climb at WOT, maybe it's just your throttle management, that, and your engine needs to be shimmed down a couple of degrees?

RE: Top Flite p 47, ok for a first plane?
Once you get started, you'll probably have more then 1 plane anyhow. You'll want one that you can just fly, not work on all the time. Warbirds are high maintainence. Sticks are a little hotter then a normal trainer, yet can be set up quite wild, check one of them out. Everybody needs a stick anyhow, I think.

RE: What engine for my P51?
I like to keep my planes a little lighter so they're able to glide instead of falling from the sky like a rock if the motor shuts off. Also you'll get a more scale flight with the smaller motor. But if your gonna 3D it, put a blat-fart 1.20 on it.

WOW......that was good! And I thought the airplane guys were bad. I don't know anything about rc cars, but do know drag racing, and that car is cool. But, I'm a mopar guy and the jegs pro-stocker( dodge) would be my choice. $500.? Well, stay away from the $50.00 food tabs for about a month and there you go.

It has changed, it takes more heat.... and smells bad. But what I can't figure out is how do they cover them at the factories. Those chinese can't build them so good, but they can cover like pros when they use the mono-coat or any other decent covering.

Spring cleaned the hot-rod workshop(my other hobby), started and washed my Hemi Dart for the first time this year. it's 30 degrees warmer outside then it's supposed to be! The weather in Michigan has been the best this last week. SWEET! Took the little lady on a Harley ride and found a green beer, and back home for some ruben sammies. Never been much for sour krout, but it has its uses.

John, that 'servo slow' sounds like what I need to do. I'm not sure if my futaba 7c will do that or not , and programing the servo might be a little over my head but I'm gonna check it out. Isn't there a device that I can plug in between the servo and receiver? I just don't like the flaps snapping down so fast. - Tim.

RE: Model Airplane News, then and now.
I wouldn't mind all the ads if they were all glow, gas, or turbine stuff, but all the electric , the foam park flyers and to a lesser extent the heli's all turn me off. But life is tough for the print world nowdays, with my local news paper shrinking to about 1/4 the size it used to be, and others just closing up the doors. At least we have our 'puters, but I won't take it to the bathroom with me, that would just be wrong.

Hey Firescout , yes, I miss-typed my elevator throws. And no I don't have a trainer , I hav'nt had a trainer in 28 yrs, although I have a 40 size stick. I could borrow my sons goldberg eagle, but it's not gonna be anything like that mustang when flying. I think people have been setting these blue noses up with to much elevator though. And your right, it's a mustang dam-it, not a fiat....I'll use the english throws. Thanks.

Thanks for all your posts FireScout. I'm watching, interesting thoughts on the elevator issues. I'm gonna' start at about 4 mm of up and down and see what happens as I try and get it tuned. Maybe I'll post some pic's of my beast and the mod's that I did that will hopefully keep mine from having an untimely departure. Sure had a lot of "minor" issues though. I think when I maiden mine I'll scale back on the coffee that morning so I don't get too exited.

Firescout, very nice work! It's great to see this thread come back to life a little. I will say this about your build though, watch the weight. It seems that the really detailed bluenoses (heavy) were having issues. And I think the weight on the directions are a joke 9.25 to 10 lbs? Good luck with that . Also a correct c.g. is crucial, i.e. 4.5". Just my 2 cents.

RE: Transmitter question
All those new batteries are fire hazards. They come with warnings to charge outside in a fireproof container. Give me a ni-cad, or give me death...Hell, I picked up some 1700mah ni-cads for two of my planes for $16.00 apiece on e-bay, and they were sanyos. 1700 is 2 1/2 times the mah's as the stock battery and will last for a long day at the field.

RE: Do you remember being a beginner???
Back in '74 I built a 48" free-flight glider. When I took it out the first time and threw it, it flew, to my astonishment. I was hooked. My first rc was a 0.49 powered cox foamie in '84. My brother could fly a little and helped me. When I took it out by my self the first time I put on quite a show. All over the sky being late on the sticks and over controlling. The flight ended about a 3rd of a mi. away up in a tree not to badly damaged. Then I really got the itch after that. I picked up a Ace Allstar bipe. I could take off and land OK, but had to hand my radio over to a experianced stranger to land it for me. He said he didn't like flying other peoples planes, but helped anyhow. He said it flew pretty good. What a tough little bird that one was. I still have a good flyable one that my son eyeballs.

I just bought a new unflown p-51 for my son for $125.00. Totally built, with a nice pitts style mufffler, retracts, new asp .40 and all the servos. Can't beat that price. The guy said he was getting out of the hobby because he just bought a Harley. I don't know how you just quit. I've got a Harley myself and I have to say, there's time for both for me.

RE: Hello from a new RC addict
Nothin' like a maiden flight. I've been flyin' almost 30 yrs. and still get exited when I maiden a new plane. Yep, when you start, you fly on the week-end, and fix your plane thru the week to fly on the week-end again. When you get the hang of it it's less fixing and just simple maintainence. Hell, I bet it's been 10 yrs. since I totaled one. Knock on wood.

I like to put a 3/16"piece of fuel tubing on the axle after the wheel collar, as a little cheap insurance that the wheel will stay put.
