RE: chainsaw vs zenoah
If you have enough skill/knowledge to sucessfully machine all the parts to make it work in a R/C Boat, you would think you would have a good paying job to be able to afford a $250 to buy a good watercooled engine thats gonna work much better for your application. After all said and done you would have wish you did. Limited performance with a chainsaw engine. IMO

RE: USED GAS ENGINE
ORIGINAL: Dan S Not knowing what your skill level is, makes it not possible to answer the question. However, that engine is $175 for 20cc gas, no pull start will fit, so you need to adapt a pulley on the crank for belt start. Need to find a flex cable collet that will fit on the crank. I don't know if that EI will be able to sustain the much higher rpm needed for a boat. need to either use a lathe to turn down the cooling fins and make a water cooled cap to fit over it, or copper lines wrapped around for cooling. Maybe air cooled may work. Find a header and a pipe that will fit or use that muffler. come up with some type of engine mount, because conventional mounts that we use will not fit that engine. For me with all the work and money involved, I would put the extra few bucks and get a stock 26cc marine zenoah. Here is a link for one, $205.00 http://www.gizmomotors.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage_images.tpl&product_id=22&category_id=5&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=56 Dan.
Save your money and get this engine, otherwise you just wasting your money on anything else. In the long run you'll wish you did trust me on this.

RE: trim tabs on a Cat
If the boat is set-up right you don't need them on a cat, if you have problems with the attitude of the ride, check your CG before you drill any hole. Which hull are we talking about ?

Batteries won't be tight for long, once the plastic gets warm they pop right out first big chop.

RE: exceed rc
You do realize that there's no cooling fins on top of that cylinder, much less behind the cooling cap so that fan is not doing anything to benefit cooling the cylinder. Like Matt said , get a bottle of water and hang it overhead like and IV and hook up your hoses. Motor sounds good, I only watch half the Video. It was painful to watch.

RE: new with lots of questions...
The newer 2nd generation S-520's are fine as long as long as you don't start rotating cylinders and leave it stock. The problem was with the 1st generation crankshaft and clearance issues. if anyone has ever built a fast boat(or any fast vehicle) Knows that once you get used to it, you wanna go faster. IMO thats why I said do it right the first time. Not trying to start a pissing match with anyone, but I have been building boats for almost 12yrs and" if it Fits it ships" But honestly If you want side by side twins, I wouldn't put 4 cylinders in the hull stick with 2. Reason is too much weight you'll find it at the bottom if the lake no matter how much floatation you have in it, not to mention all the heat from the 4 exhaust pipes under the lid.

RE: new with lots of questions...
I know exactly what it is ! If you want to try and get smart and say your typing not talking then it shows alot about how smart you really are. A single would be fine but if a twin will fit under the lid with the exhaust and its in your budget then whats too much power ? when you have control of it.

I think a single twinS-520( 2 cylinders total) would be perfect. Do it right the first time. IMO
