RE: RE:
Sounds interesting. Unfortunately here its not often I can see PBS torrents appear. That said, I'm currently enjoying a new series from the BBC on tanks & other weapons. They appear every week or so which leads to plenty viewing pleasure. Highly recommend Nicholas Rankin's book A Genius For Deception which cover this & other programs of deception used throughout the war.

Do us a favor & just don't post any photos of the sh!tter at your factory. [:'(] I've certainly seen my share of those over the years & they always tend to be far worse than anything you'd expect to see at McDonalds. Typically nothing more than a concrete slit trench with a hose to wash out the waste. Lots of flies, too.

Interesting to see where this may be headed between this release from Panda & the new Takom FT due out next month. They remind me of an early Trumpeter or Dragon, & from the response I got from Takom's customer service staff regarding the FT & other projects that are underway, seem very focused in their approach unlike some others we know.

RE: TAIGEN FACTORY PICTURES
In the 23 years I've been involved in Asian production, I have seen countless workshops like this that are all small, privately-held family run enterprises, usually poorly managed by a husband & wife team. Some, run by capable owners who listen to customer input & can think outside the box do ok & grow but many do not. Considering IMPACT's die casting supplier is located in the area, I would not be the least surprised that this is a spin-off from one of their former staff with that entrepreneurial spirit one sees all the time in China. You know, the guy slaving away in the polishing workshop who dreams one day to get rich just like his laoban driving a Benz or BMW. Besides the lack of any photos of a proper assembly line, my main question would be: where are the die casting & plastic injection workshops? My guess this is a a small-time assembly point / re-packer, ie, non-manufacturer, who uses a number of sub-contractors to supply parts from outside. If so, I hope their IQC strong & borders on the level of 100% inspection. Personally, I would have never posted photos like this since the shop in question appears to be completely disorganized ****hole that makes even Arkmodel / Hooben's facility in Hangzhou shine by comparison.

Welcome to doing business in China (Taiwan), boys! The old adage "no news is bad news" is applied very much here when one encounters a quality problem with most suppliers & its been that way for years. Most simply shrug their shoulders & claim they've not heard of problems from anyone else. Am certainly not saying that's exactly the case here, but one does get used to it as SOP.

Speedline Models' MFP Kit
For those interested in German landing craft, I saw that Speedline Models is working on an MFP kit. They offer an excellent 1:16 LCM3 but I wouldn't hold my breath hoping that they'll follow with a larger MFP in the same scale. [:-]
Marinefahrprahm (type D) Initial research for this amazing vessel is pretty well complete now and we are progressing with both 1/35th and 1/72nd models. RE: The origins of Heng Long tank designs
ORIGINAL: pattoncommander Judging from the M-26 and M-41, they were designed from comic books by HL toy makers who had never seen the real tanks. Half the fun is making the tanks look like what they were supposed to represent.
ROFLMAO!!!!! Tanks For Math!
Interesting bit of trivia for any tank fan.
Europe and the Pacific were the two primary arenas in World War II, but the battle also was one of technological achievement. Airplanes, submarines, and of course the development of the atomic bomb were core markers to the arms race within the War. Similar, tank warfare was as much a function of innovation as it was anything else. Allied forces readily admitted that the enemy German tanks, such as the Tiger and Panther, were superior to their own. The big question for Allied forces, then, was not how to counter the Tiger and its progeny, but how many tanks Germany was able to produce. To solve this problem, the Allies first turned to conventional intelligence gathering: spying, intercepting and decoding transmissions, interrogating captured enemies, etc. Via this method, the Allies deduced that from June 1940 to September 1942, the German military industrial complex was churning out roughly 1,400 tanks each month — an enormous amount. By comparison, the Axis forces used “only 1,200 tanks during the Battle of Stalingrad, an eight month battle with a total casualty count nearing 2 million people. Perhaps skeptical of the above result, the Allies looked for other methods of estimation. And then they found a critical clue: serial numbers. As reported by the Guardian, Allied intelligence noticed that each captured German tank (and wreckage thereof) contained a serial number unique to that tank. With a bit of careful observation, the Allies were able to determine that the serial numbers had a pattern denoting the order of tank production. Using this data, the Allies were able to create a mathematical model to determine the rate of German tank production, and estimated that, during the same summer 1940 to fall 1942 time period, the Germans produced 255 tanks per month — a fraction of the 1,400 estimate produced by conventional intelligence. (Want to see the math? Click here.) And it turns out, this method worked best: after the War, internal German data put the number at 256 tanks per month.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2006/jul/20/secondworldwar.tvandradio http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_tank_problem#Exposition And a related read: Why iPhones are just like German tanks You might not see the similarity at once, but the latest estimates for iPhone sales come straight from World War II http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/blog/2008/oct/08/iphone.apple
