Receiver Antenna / Bobbin
with newer 72mhz receivers l've gotten lately Hitec supplies a "bobbin" on which one can wind up to @ 18" of the receiver antenna, starting 3 -4" from the receiver - and of course with the instruction to not cross over any of the antenna - just spool it l have done so on a mid-size plane and a smaller Taylorcraft (which is not parkflyer as such) = and have had no problems or noticeable issues with flying; distance, etc some guys question the practice - as it is in one respect "shortening the antenna length" despite not cutting anything off the instructions do not mention any best practice - such as in use only with park flyer or something of that nature is there a guideline for spooling the antenna - in terms of any range loss, chance of increased interference, etc or is it a primarily cosmetic enhancement for those that want less antenna to fasten down ant trail the plane in the air? thanks in advance (note: added after posting original: had missed a post of 6/27/09 concerning same topic = but would like some clarification if there is some - l have flown 400 - 500 feet away and no side effects - have l been lucky?)

RE: Pulse XT 40 maidened...
welcome to the pulse club - have been flying one for almost 2 years - you probably read my post on the tail wheels it is a great all around plane!!!!! rolls will become easier - usually one way is better than the other - you'll get the touch - it is by no means a super aerobat but it will do most everything it is asked to - right side up OR right side down!. it floats yes - but again very soon you'll get used to it - several in my club just love to watch it fly - l have just gotten into the electric side with a mini-pulse - love it too - flies much like its big brother - one of our new members last year (who actually spurned me onto the electric side) loved flying my pulse 40 (in gas) so much he is just putting the finishing touches on a new pulse 60 (yes-electric) the pulse 40 is such a good looking plane!!!!! and will serve you well (mine has an evolution 46 and that is lots of power for me) cheers

RE: Showtime 50 or Funtana 50?
l have had both - and certainly have not excelled at 3d - but for my money - FUNTANA - but l certainly acknowledge that my style and flying interests are not for performance - just the fun of flying - slow, fast , right side up - right side down - all over the sky In doing my research when moving onto the Showtime l came across a very simple comparison =which l can agree and attest to ==== the Funtana is for 3D first, pattern type stuff second the Showtime is for pattern style first, and 3D second For me it boiled down to Funtana is great for slower style if you want it to be, but the Showtime needs speed. A very simplistic view l know - and others will chuckle - but it is what l found. You would enjoy either for sure though!!!

RE: H9 Pulse XT 40?
agree with ro347 - 11x5 or 11x6 l forgot to order a prop with my engine so went to LHS - and they were out of "regular" props - the gent recommended the Master Airscrew Scimitar - definitely looks like it has and does have a SHARPER bite - but also is a very quiet prop - no real noise from it - the gent it'd make the engine sound like a 4 stroke and it pretty much does l started with and have stayed with 11x6 quite happily with the evo 46 and 11x6 - l fly 12 minutes and still have 1/3 to 1/2 tank fuel left!!!!! side note 1 - take it gentle and slow carving out the cowl to fit - little bits at a time - even if it takes 3 times longer than you want it to - the end product will look like a factory installation cowl and everyone will love you for it!!! side note2 - l put mine together, set up surfaces and servos, checked c of g - bang on, started the engine and away l went and a year later still going strong - no set up, no trim adjustments - just fuel it and go!!!!

RE: H9 Pulse XT 40?
absolutely a wonderful airplane mine has an evolution 46 w/11x6 master airscrew scimitar - and it'll do everything l want it to - and stuff that other pilots have asked it to as well lots of power, quiet, etc, etc, etc an electric flyer pal loved it - but couldnt afford the $ to equip one - so went and got a mini-pulse - everyone loves it as well so all in all a winning design and plane - a step up from a basic trainer but it'll do well for that purpose and beyond everything standard - i.e servos - hs425bb's, control horns, spinner, hinges, etc only real mod's were the tail wheel mount, and the axles -- as noted by RO347 - l think he and l chatted about that a long while ago on a similar thread - so am glad to see he is enjoying his AND l missed re-enforcing the landing gear mount area inside the fuse - and of course should have known better after having the same issue on a funtana and a showtime -- and of course finally that caught up with me on a tough landing - no real damage but a pain to repair the funtana and showtime each have their own qualities - both for and against -- but the pulse offers me the most overall fun and enjoyment CONSISTENTLY

RE: Evolution Engines
l have a 46 - is one of the best engines l've had - starts very well, lots of power, quiet, was VERY affordable. After a year can still start it virtually every time without starter motor - prime it, put on glow, couple of flips with stick and away it goes. As advertised - rec'd the engine, mounted it onto the plane, went to the flying field, started it up and took off!!!!!!! and havent looked back since. Several club members have had the same experiences. Out of the BOX and into the SKY!!!! any new engines in the future will be Evolution for sure.

RE: Cleaning covering after flight
sorry l havent reported in - life has gotten in the way of flying all of a sudden anyways - got home depot's ZEP citrus cleaner/degreaser - works great - cuts oil residues, wipes off well, then covering (ultracote) buffs up to a real nice shine - and smells greaat at the same time - and starting to clean up indoors now the smell is much more tolerable than the ammonia - why did l wait so long to switch thanks for all suggestions - wll keep some of the others in mind as well and yes -- electric is tempting - we now have electric's in our club for the first time - and the 2 gents just pack and go home - and laugh at the glow guys still in the pits cleaning up - and they are into bigger planes which is very temting - l had only been exposed to the smaller craft and not impressed - so am seriously thinking of crossing the line! now - l just have to be able to get the "electric bills" cleaned and past the mrs. if l switch over!!!!!!!!

Cleaning covering after flight
l have come across several threads in regards to cleanup of oil residue, grass, etc from plane covering - several good hints at home-made formulas and only a couple of readily available products... but usually main concern is cutting crud - a good thread that exists is l think before ULTRACOTE really came into popularity what about cleaning off residues AND leaving a nice shine to the covering - and specifically ULTRACOTE? l have been using a no-name window cleaner - with ammonia, which some feel is bad for electrical connections and making covering brittle - but as the ultracote ages it just doesnt clean up as nicely as when new - and mainly looking for a ready-to-use product don't want to start trying different products/blends/etc and maybe harm the covering / sheen more - have a great looking plane and want it to stay that way

RE: Prop for H9 Pulse XT
l agree with the other gent: The 11/6 works fine, so l never tried anything else. l use an Evolution 46 with Master Airscrew Scimitar 11x6 - lots of power, quieter than standard MA prop. l ilke it, and anyone who has flown my plane agrees - excellent combination!

RE: New Great Planes Revolver
we'll just have to wait and see when they hit circulation - and see reports when they start coming online. l got a hangar 9 pulse xt last year and just double-checked the specs on it - they show 8 to 9.5 lbs!!!! a 59" winspan/50" length for electric, or a 46 glow, or up to saito 82 -- l dont know the weight of mine actually but an evolution 46 hauls it around fantastically -- sometimes one has to wonder on the weights shown -- now this one has foam and sheeted wing so that may add some weight (?) and yes - it is great to have something NOT aimed at 3D - there are still some of us preferring sport / fun with the ability to go wild once in a while!

RE: replace tailwheel on Pulse XT
sullivan is also my vote suprisingly it just bolted in place with spacing of rear bolt and tail of fuse= l just had to file down the sides of the mount a bit for the nut area - as per pic - then just used a small screw at the very back for stability - the mount is suited perfectly to tail shape - no glue - the main bolt/nut holds great l have just left the tailwheel to freely caster - no real difference on ground handling - but who wants to be on the ground anyways? (l love this plane - but l also replaced the main wheel axles with proper du-bro axles - the supplied socket head bolts bent on some of the earliest flights)

RE: New Great Planes Revolver
This is a great looking plane for sure - has gone to the top of my shopping list for next years plane -- am eager to see reviews of those who get now. Am not really into 3d, but love tossing a plane around anyhow - so a sport aaerobat this seems to be. Also wondering about muffler, and found if you check out the build manual for it - pg. 17 == "If you installed a two-stroke engine, attach a Pitts-style in-cowl muffler. The stock muffler could also be used, but excessive cutting of the cowl would be necessary. We suggest using a Pitts-style muffler as shown in the picture."

RE: Split Elevator Mixing
Use a Y-servo harness - BUT with a reverser feature - it is an electronic component added that reverses and times the signal to both servos - no having to reverse one, etc. there are many on the market by the radio people and the aftermarket as well. l got one from Expert Electronics - only about $14 - first experience in this area only a month ago - and it works extremely well

new to 3d - questioning servo types?
-am an experienced pilot - sport only -am going to get set up over the winter to get into 3d -am going to order a funtana 40 with saito 82 combo =question is - do l need to upgrade servos from the standard servos to HD versions? have seen very little(or been able to find very little) on this topic so far - concensus however seems to be definitely upgrade for a 90 size plane, but a 40 size could either be standard or to upgrade am using a newer standard Hitec radio system - am also ordering a flight pack so can order upgraded servos if need be at that time (no one in my immediate area flys 3d so don't have local expereiences to fall back on) thanks for any info (am NEW to this forum format - so excuse if not done up just right)
