RE: Traxxas Revo 5308 /5309 and some starter tips...
ORIGINAL: wez312 ^ I have to say, I'm pretty new to this stuff, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure aluminum A-arms are a bad idea. If something happens they'll bend instead of breaking and in turn break other parts. My roommate broke one of his A-arms right away, but that was because he ran into a tree. [:D] If you want to upgrade the A-arms just got with RPM's plastic replacements. They have a lifetime warranty.
i would never go with aluminum on the outer parts :) the first aluminum part on my truck will be the turnbuckles ;) thanks that u mentioned rpm i was thinking about them too :)

Traxxas Revo 5308 /5309 and some starter tips...
hi @ all here in the trassas corner ;) i'm currently thinking about a Revo 3.3 either 5308 / 5309 as far as i heard that should be one of the most reliable trucks out there, from a lot of people i hear that the ez start is a pain in the back so my first question is, if i m a newcomer to the whole nitro class, should i go for it, or would i be better of in purchasing something like a competition revo and all the parts to that (as a first timer)? maybe someone can tell me if it is possible to convert the 5308 later on towards a starter box engine or such. another thing is the dog bones, anyone suggesting keeping dog bones or is there a cvd replacement / ball drive or such for this truck available? Also i would appreciate some help on which parts to order right away with the truck, maybe some newbie help with tools needes, and such. or pin point me to a thread for newbies :) thank you all for some help, oh and maybe some site links for good revo hopups where to get and such would be greatly appreciated. EDIT ;) heres a list of parts i would like some suggestions for as well (if you guys have some time no hurry just yet) Servos: Steering | Acc/Brk Radio: i was thinking about a spektrum ds3r Suspension: Front | Rear Starter box: (if needed later) and so on, would be nice to find some people to talk to about some of their experience with their trucks, or i dont know if its in the states as we had it in some of the german forums that they offer you to make a diary of the truck history pretty much, like this kinda thing: day one: truck purchase little description about parts setup and purchase in general then break in experiences first ride out and so on ;) just throwing some ideas out there, since i will be buying my truck within the next cpl of weeks i would like to get the parts list as complete as possible to order one order and not pay shipping for a 10 cent part or such :)

RE: FG MB pro diff gear
hmm looks like the parts are perfectly fitting not to much room not squeezed onto each other, as mentioned, could just have been bad luck with the gears, i would try the heavy duty one form hobbythek, p.s. where did you get the outer 48t in original style if im allowed to ask, i need one of those again :) thanks and best luck

RE: FG MB pro diff gear
trust me its the weight :) ive experienced exactly the same, marder runs all day, and every time we would leave the bashing grounds, the only car that would still run as in the morning ; the marder :( kinda emberassing, but if your looking around i bash the crap out of my monster :) see : about the nicest video i made of hardcore driving :) hope you like it, feel free to comment. RE: FG MB pro diff gear
no one said that i think, that driving experience prevents rocks from getting in there... well grab that reinforced one for a try, that one seemed to be working fine, and as i mentioned i never used those fancy protections, i drove in sand pits as well as grass as well as rock pits. i might not have 25yrs experience but i can tell you from my time in xtreme offroad with a fg monster, i would never go full alloy parts, i would always leave one weak link (a "must break" part) within the outer fast fix parts, so in case u make a driving mistake or something unexpected happens, one of these fast fixers breaks :) usually i leave uprights front and rear i leave a arm plastic :) in the end its all personal preference. i loved the reinforced steel gear and had no issues.

RE: FG MB pro diff gear
not really, if that was the case then the 16 tooth or the outer 46 t would break if im not mistaken, that has happend a couple of times to me, the one thing else i could think of is faulty quality on the parts, or the gear is hitting the chassis plate because of some untightened screws on the engine and diff blocks ( assumptions) easy to rule out untightened screew and movement down there, just check the chassis plate if it has any damage front or backside of the diff gear. other then that, there must be something wrong, i had one diff gear within 6month of driving (hitman style:) ) maybe as said he can provide some footage would be helpfull :P

RE: what do you all think about this baja clone
i never upgraded the engine size :) loved the performance between zenoah 260 (slightly modded) together with a jetpro silenced version :) wheelies in the mid hill sometime where no problem, to much torque is not good in my eyes, seen these kids with 29cc and such, its a waste, the 260 zenoah puts down just enough power if you know how to tune and upgrade the fg monster, its down to 3 - 5 parts that will break: - rims (they will spin out from the torque and momentum sometimes) details can be provided - upper a arms rear (i leave them plastic) i always prefer with big jumps to have something easy break rather then the inner mounted parts. - uprights front ( plastic as well) easy to replace and dirt cheap, reinforced versions usually lasted me a day a piece if i was goin for jumps - wheels ( i always drove without thoose donuts in them) non foamed wheels will get a lot better grip and dont feel like driving on eggs if your offroad :P - chassis (i never cared much about it besides if i was able to see thru id throw them away :) )

RE: FG MB pro diff gear
Mr Mugen, then with all due respect you must be driving wrong. with the upgraded rear diff blocks to aluminum the elevated version for monster, then ball drives and the diff circle with reinforced steel that is described up there (HT-Differential ring gear, extreme duty, 41T, y0202 - 1pce.) i never had the problem with the big sprocket or gear or tooth wheel again, the only thing that i had to keep replacing with extreme off road usage on my truck was uprights front and in the rear the upper a arms, if you would be able to post some pics of your rear {upper and lower} in detail it would be great. hope that helped a little bit oh ps. that cover there, is worthless... it keeps mud dirt and heat in, i prefer to have it open and get my diff cover a bit scratched rather then the thing heating up my gears internal and external to differential... everything that comes in has to come out :) with a cover, that is just prohibited, also i left the lower cover off my monster after upgrading to the reinforced steel wheel i threw that little plastic cover away. never had issues with stones in or out there :)

RE: what do you all think about this baja clone
the zenoah 260 that i had with my fg monster in 07 was almost undestroyable, but after about 20 gallons i swapped out the engines to a 260 zenoah that i ve purchased new for a few bucks from a desperate kid :) so between bot the 260 zenoahs on the fg monster, i ve had about 6 month of active driving almost every day for an hour or two. :)

RE: what do you all think about this baja clone
cfchurch, i think it kinda makes sense, but the basic idea is that he has fun for the first couple of rides, which don't understand me wrong. will have i m sure, but with a better quality vehicle he might have some more fun before breakdowns, i can tell u a good story about it cuz i was the maniac around my area as i had a big scale, stuff like this was ON every weekend ;) just dont have much footage to bring with cuz i stopped driving for 2 yrs almost, i am just now getting back to a financial stable position to start back up with a brand new rc truck in georgia :) so i have to import most my stuff now :(... back to topic, i would say if you looking forward in keeping the truck for nice and shine, go with it, but if your putting strain on it, get a baja original, have heard a lot of good reviews from my old buddys about them bajas.

RE: What do you think i am going to break first when i get my new FG MT? I want to order a few spares
Then just get 2 trucks and you ll be good to go, it hurts if i read stuff like this, what do i need all these upps for if i dont have the main componends tuned? I would by the following, MT (i guess you buy the RTR kit) Servos (805 bb/645) in the rtr kit ALLOY DIFFERENTIAL KIT!!! (plastik diff is bad , and you ll keep it for spare) read ball drive kit (dogbones break to easy if your tryin to bash around) Air filter cover (twin air might be a good choice, cuz if you want aftermarket filter, it need a prefilter) stronger CLUTCH SPRING (shifts your rears where the car starts to accelerate from i belive 6000 up to 7500 RPM) only a little part but good for cheap fine tuning Aluminum gear plate and 97 brake with all UPPS (only if you have enought money) Remote (preferably Spektrum or T3PK) Motorfailsave and then start tuning alloy parts back uprights diff holder (2pce version) DAMPER PLATE REAR gear catcher + reinforced 48 gear and so on. thats how i would do it greets andre
