thinkin about drifting
i currently have a xxx-s graphite virtually brand new i picked up for 125 bucks about 6 months ago, thought about racing it but dont have the time.. what would i need to do to convert it over to a drifter? i have a brand new novak 17t brushless system to throw in it, i figured a body and tires and some setup changes need to be done, do you necessarily need a gyro to drift and not spin out! im pretty good on the controller as i race offroad and rockcrawl.just tryin to try something out that i can do locally with out costing too much. i think i got a pretty good start soo far , what do you think?

RE: Is it worth it to buy?
if you know the owner,or know what to look for when inspecting a motor you should be ok. never buy sight unseen.next is price , for a used vspec ,i would spend more than 150 for it used.i myself am lookin at a 2gallon vspec locally for 125. if you take care of things you can get 7+ gallons out of it. i have a 8 gallon old speed here now that runs like champ with just a bearing change ,it still has good pinch and doesnt flame out.it will be getting an overhaul this winter

RE: Novarossi N21BF Limited Edition .21 Off Road 3 Port Buggy Engine (Standard Plug)
ORIGINAL: kragsdale I disagree that this engine cannot compete with others on any part of the track at all. It has impressive low end even in truggies BUT it does seem to lack high end power which could be partially remedied with the right pipe. If you track is smaller and tighter I would still consider this engine but if there's alot of long straights maybe this isn't the right engine. Also note that Nova engines are excellent in the area of quality and longevity even this one though its considered an "economy" engine.
well said. i owned one and for small tracks they work great .but like he said if the trsck has long straights, the motor will give up half way down them and not pull hard like a race motor. i went from the nova 21 bf to a os speed. wow what a difference!!

RE: LiPo VS. NiMh ??
ORIGINAL: nitroade If you never try lipo, you will never see what electrics are truly capable of. Yes, you have to be a little more vigilant in how you maintain and use them, but the performance trade off is far superior IMO. There are countless users who use lipos on a regular basis and never have a problem (including me).
very well said!!! i made the switch recently myself and will NEVER go back

RE: which ESC to get?
well it all depends on what you want in a system, i myself would go with the mamba max esc and a brushed motor as it is alot smoother at low speeds and the mamba can handle all the battery you will ever need! i just puuled my mamba max out of my axial to run in my slash with a vxl motor and put back in my rooster esc. the rooster is decent for what it is and can handle 8 cells even though its not rated for it.

a 21/90 or 20/90 is a good offroad gearing. keep an eye on temps.

RE: Traxxas Slash Brushless Upgrade, HELP!
actually the best combination to have is a mamba max esc and the velinion motor. the mamba is completely programmable and is one of the most powerful esc's made, and the velinion motor is a 3500kv <10.5> turn. the velinion motor is really a good quality motor that allows flexible gearing and is more than plenty of motor for the slash. my cousin just bought the havok kit <13.5>because its sensored, he liked the smoothness of a sesored motor, but is rather disapointed with the power he is getting out of it. if you go with novak ,get the gtb series in a 10.5. but as stated above ,the mm and vxl motor is a key setup![sm=thumbup.gif]
