RE: Warbirds Over Louisville, Oct 6 & 7
Got two ARF warbirds for raffle prizes, should be more stuff coming! They're both from Seagull; the Dewoitine has a 70 inch wingspan and the Texan 2 is 63. I haven't decided whether to have one big raffle and let the winner choose or have separate raffles for each. Either way, somebody is going to get some cool stuff!

RE: Warbirds Over Louisville, Oct 6 & 7
John, we have a 500 x 50 foot asphalt runway with an adjoining grass strip. We fly everything there except turbine jets- just not quite enough room to get them down safely (although we have made exceptions for airshows). If you go to our website, www.rcrcky.com , and click on the 'about us' link, there is a map and aerial view of our field. Hope to see you there! [8D]

Trying to get my ESM P-40 ready for the show, but I'll probably end up flying my trusty Top Flite Corsair.

RE: Meister 109 rehab
I also saw that plane for sale at the Perry swapmeet ( I think ). And I too looked at it real hard, but I was put off by the square bulges on top of the wing. I kind of liked the desert paint scheme, but I have never seen a Bf-109 with a wing like that. Ah, well, I ended up buying an ESM Me-110. Glad it found a home! I'll be watching your progress, Good luck!

RE: TF FW190 A3 ARF
Crap! Another plane I just have to have! I'm glad it's the 'A' model instead of the 'D'. I've always liked the A better. And it's already a lot better looking than the Easytiger one. Can anyone tell me, is the hardware with the Top Flite ARFs of decent quality? I'm throwing away most of the hardware that came with my ESM Warhawk.

RE: Black Horse Warbirds
It figures that the retracts wouldn't be much good- that seems to be a weak point for most ARFs. As I said above, the Hurricane and BF-109 are not listed on the Hobby People web site, so I still wonder where one might get one.

RE: Black Horse Warbirds
I am quite familiar with the ESM models as I have the P-40 and the Me-110. (Just not assembled yet!) I have been seriously considering the ESM Me-109G (like I need more projects!), but I just like the look of the 'E' model more. And I like that the Hurricane is larger. Thanks Asanders, that's the kind of pics I was looking for! And honest evaluations! I think it looks very good for a film-covered ARF! I think with some dressing-up and weathering it could look super! I have seen a video of the Wyvern flying- it seems to do pretty well. I think it was in California.

Black Horse Warbirds
I noticed that Black Horse Models has several new giant-scale warbird ARFs! The pics on the website are not very high quality, but they do look pretty good. Of course, I wouldn't expect them to show photos that make them look bad! Mostly I am interested in the BF-109E and the Hawker Hurricane. Around 87" wingspan and the description says they are primarily balsa and ply (instead of fiberglass) and covered with film. That can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on you're point of view. Hobby People has most of the Black Horse planes but not the Messerschmidt or the Hurricane. Has anybody seen these planes up close? Do they look pretty good? Are they built well? And does anybody know where to buy one? http://www.blackhorsemodel.com.vn/index.php?mod=pro&cat=34

RE: Problems with Tower Hobbies Brand Epoxy
OK! I did some re-thinking about actually putting the epoxy in the microwave and decided not to go quite that route. I could just see the bottle expoding in there! So, as others here suggested I heated some water in the microwave (almost to boiling) and submerged the epoxy bottle. After about 30 minutes the epoxy had re-liquified! I mixed up a small test batch and glued some scrap balsa together- it works just like new! Hopefully it will stay liquid again for a while. Great money-saving tip!

RE: Problems with Tower Hobbies Brand Epoxy
I have a package of 30 minute epoxy from Great Planes (part of the Tower family) and the epoxy part (not the hardener) has turned solid. I bought it from a local shop last year and was wondering if I could get it replaced. I will try the microwave trick and report back...[:o]

RE: can't make my futaba buddy box work
I have used a lot of Futaba radios as buddy boxes at my field. Yes, when connected the buddy box does not need to be turned on but still shows power (it doesn't need a battery or a crystal). I have had several buddy CABLES go bad though. As a last resort, try another cable. It seems that the connectors go bad, especially the older round ones. I have also had the connector in the radio go bad once or twice. If you buy a new cable and that DOESN'T fix the problem, sorry about that! Maybe you can get a refund, or sell it to another student.

I use the rotary knob because I can select the exact amount I want. Been using it for many years without a problem. Although I do look down briefly to make sure where it is set, but so far so good.

RE: Magnum .25 remote needle valve?
I think Magnum engines are imported by Global Hobbies. They are clones of the OS engines and so the remote needle for an OS .25 will probably work fine. I found on the Global website this page of parts. I think part number 281817 the 'Needle Valve Mount' would work for you. Looks like you could just use your existing needle valve in this mount: http://globalservices.globalhobby.com/part/210627.asp Here is the general website: http://magnum.globalhobby.com/ You might be able to call them and ask about it. Good Luck!

RE: I need a better Idea to store planes
Snurckle's wing rack is pretty neat! I built something similar but mine uses a rectangular frame of 2 by 4's and has 'feet' on the bottom. It's a lot uglier but it can be moved around and stand on its own. And mine also has some supports that stick straight out for holding fuselages.

RE: Suggested F4U Corsair kits/ARFs
As for ESM planes quality, I have been quite pleased. I have the ESM P-40 and the Bf-110. I am still putting them together, but both seem to be well made. I hope they fly as good as they look. I have been flying a Top Flite Corsair (60 size) for a couple years and it is a good flying model. Of course, most warbirds are tricky to fly and the Corsair is definately one!

RE: Color Schemes
For me the best color for visability is Cub Yellow. Combine that with a highly contrasting color like dark blue or black. I did a trainer in cub yellow and dark blue- seemed to show up well against clouds or blue sky. Do make sure that the top is different from the bottom.

I have the ESM retracts for my ESM P-40 and the BF-110. But I am still working on the planes so they haven't been really tested yet. They do look really nice and seem to function very well, at least in the shop. Time will tell...
