RE: R/C surcouf submarine
LOL. I see what you mean kotori when you have to listen to peeps like subcapt. over hear. rofl. Good again to see a sub doing well in battle. I was thinking a little for along the lines of the fast/small gun clubs and thre rules thatn big gun. I personally like big gun better but all of the closed clubs to me are small gun so... nevertheless i still enjoy see other designs and hopes in submarine designs and i'm all for develop. Progess doesn't just happen by people just sitting around. Still great to hear the sub guys are getting some action. Keep up the good work.

RE: R/C surcouf submarine
Well it good to see a sub out there and yes that is a model of the french surcouf but still there is no working cannons which would have been an obvious working necessity at least for me. I see the model does look a bit rough but again its good to see some more sub action. Where's are the great sub ideas on the forum being implemented too. I've yet to see a decent sub even tho it definety seems possilbe. anyway

RE: R/C surcouf submarine
I've done quick a bit of research on seeing if subs could have some positions but sadly it never looks good. Of course torps are the hardest problem but that's why i chose the surcouf with the twin cannon turret. Even in 1/144 the sub would be about 3 feet long. Also there is still advantage of submerging with a sub. Of course most stealth is lost in this type of play but the options of a hit and run and being able to submerge quick enough to get outside range of anothers cannon is handy. I was just planning of having a submergable sub with the twin cannons and no torps. Even under ircwcc rules you get a 1 1/2 unit cannon that can be split up. Got to be some fun there.

surcouf sub
Hi all, Just returning from a long time away from the forums. I was just curious whether there are any surcouf sub models out there battling away. I heard of some with the large Jap subs and others but i haven't heard of a surcouf yet although it would probably be the best. As a double the sub could have working twin cannon which would be better than torps (or definitly less of a problem or mess). I would love to build one myself but unfortunately i don't live anywhere near a club. Also if anyone is looking for surcouf schematics i happen to have about a set of 1/2 dozen that could easily be used for a model. Great to hear everyone again.

RE: Cannon Design
The sub and cannons will be for actually warship combat. The problem with water in the guns with it getting in the way and using more air than needed.

RE: Wouldn't it be cool if......
I do hope we are tal;king about rc. I think your idea is great and very possible. I used to work at a hobbyshop and i know exactly what you could you. you don't need a large engine and they are getting so small, some being .08 ci. Heat is not a problem because to the surrounding cool water and neither with starting. the traxxas vehicle use a system that when you press the button a charge goes to the glowplug and one to a motor to spin the engine. the one problem would be to make sure the engine is tuned right so you could start it and the exhaust can just be discharged into the air when surfaced.

RE: Cannon Design
I am actually planning on using it on a sub, specifically a surcouf. In case you don't know the surcouf was an amazingly large sub (4000 tons) with two 8 in cannon out of an on deck turret. I only need the cannons to point forward for now but the bigger problem is that the sub has to be able to submerge and surface and still be able to fire. I was thinking of having a gun that drained the water out or used the water in some way.

Cannon Design
I was hoping that someone might have instructions or plan on how to make a warship gun. I was just trying to figure out the best connon for the job.

RE: Camouflage
Although the last dark grey pic does seen like it would disappear into the background, i personally like the second lite grey. The second pics deems to look more dazzling and shifts my focus to the middle of the boat (like you would want but just forward). I was also wondering were this torpedo launcher that you speak of is. As for a suggestion i would try and make up a fourth scheme with the colors and design of the second pic but with a third grey color between the light and darker colors. I do however like the dark front although you might want to extend it a little farther back like to the turret.

RE: depth charges
For the use of ASW there are and will always be the destroyer. That would certainly add something new to the competition. By the way, i know that ramming is not allowed in combat, but it should be when used against a submarine. In fact the very first sub in world war one was sunk by being rammed by the battleship Dreadnought. Another idea for ASW is to have ships tow a weight stick in spikes. That was is would be in the general direction of depth charged behind a ship and it's simple(just wack the sub underwater).[:D]

I have been looking at kits include the dumas russian akula class sub and was wondering how they seal the hull. there seems not to be any screws that i can see and if they used magnets that probably wouldn't give a good enough seal. any info on this please?[8|]

RE: More on depth charges
all of uyou guys are straying away from the point to completely answer all your questions, here's your list: 1. subs can use a watertight compartment to seal electronics, but the sub must be able to be sunk 2. static and dynamic diving would bother be allowed although i think you would want ballast tanks. if your staic dive sub was hit it wouldn't be able to really surface. dynamic dive however would have more of a chance as they would just keep filling ballast until supplies run out. part of the point though is that you as a sub shouldn't be hit. 3. with really boats depth charges they are dropped behind the ship anyway. ever though of having the rod retractable 4. the reason that you don't have to get those 100 rounds that you shot is because they are made of steel instead of lead which is poisonous to birds, etc. 5. About the problem with subs, if they cant see you, you can't see you is exactly the point. you have to be able to see where your sub is anyway. with that all you have is the periscope rule in that you are considered sunk if your periscope is below the water. also you could have a reflect tape or bright paint on the top of the periscope or evryone to see. 6. you don't need exploding torpedoes beacuse first of all it isn't allowed. also all you need to have it do is poke a whole in a ship's hull. if you worry about getting the torpedo stuck in the hulls just round the point and have a spring so that once it punctures a hole, the string push it back out. that might even give you a second hole. 7. deck guns should be allowed even with small amounts of ammo but i think you would be using the torpedoes more often. 8.the solution to torpedo power isn't an electric motor. what you want to use is compressed air. that way it is easier to fire, recoverable after stopping, and give a powerful burts are a certain length. for anymore Q and A real free to post. ps i am still wondering about a destroyer attack agarinsts subs as well as depth charge ideas.

More on depth charges
Depth charges would add a needed demesion to the game of warship combat as it would allow a place for submarines and the useful purpose of destroyers. although pneumatic depth charges that shoots BB about 2 ins. away is really cool. what about the rule of weapons having to be environmental friendly or recoverable. i though of simply having a destroyer "tow" a swinging rod that is covered in spikes to puncture a nearby sub. any feed back about new/more depth charges would be great as well.

RE: do you think 13 is too young to own and manage a nitro rc car?
I just happen to work at a hobby shop and i say that if he is mature enough, go for it. if it is his first time with nitro , or the hobby for that fact go truggy. i would recommend an RC10GT. It's perfect. it's easier to clean, fast in competition, and if he wants to uprade, he can. i personally am into 1/10 street touring racing, but i still play with my truck. a monster truck many be a bit to much with mantaining such as transmittion and engine. 1/8 truggy however is becoming more popular in racing and as long as you have availablility to parts easily, i say go for it.[:)]
