Kyosho Ultima RB5 SP Setups & Pictures
Would like to see all the owners list their set ups. I drove my new Kyosho Ultima RB5 SP last night! This is my first buggy. 17.5 Team Orion, Sphere LRP competition, TP 5000 40C, 29 pinion gear and Spektrum DX3S. Still have to add decals. Added 1/4 weight to left rear triangle and 1/2 ounce to right. Battery in the forward position. Kyosho has their pro drivers set up on their sites. Will post pics after adding decals.

Wonder why team orion motors don't advertise their KV rating?

Drove it outside without the body and is sure is quick. Top end speed was not that fast. Guess I was expecting more. With our short track there is only one long stretch so it really will not matter. I put the largest pinion gear in it that would fit. Thanks for your inputs.

RE: Newbie Help 4wd or 2wd
My goal is to get into the mod class or 1/8 nitro buggy. Just dont know if mod is way out of my league and break too many parts and get frustrated. I don't care about coming in last for a while. I already have an esc and 17.5 motor new in the box. I could easily trade it for a 7.5 motor. I came in 2nd in novice slash with 6 racers my last race.
ORIGINAL: MonkeyFist 2WD will teach you to drive better then 4WD. If you can master a 2WD buggy then no racing class will be too tough for you. DO NOT try to start out racing in the mod class as it will just lead to frustration and alot of broken parts. Race in stock (27 turn or 17.5 in brushless) or Super Stock(19 turn or 13.5 brushless) classes first. That is where you will gain the skill set to move up and drive in the faster classes. Take the time to really learn how set up changes effect your car. I see alot of folks who slap on the set up of some pro driver and never lean how to tune a chassis for them selves. As far as choices in the 1/10 2WD arena there is the Losi XXX-CR, the Associated B4, The Kyosho RB5, and the Academy GV2. There may be a few random others out there, but those are the major players. The B4 is the current hot ride for alot of folks. I drive a XXX-CR as I found the B4 to be too twitchy for my taste. I could have spent more time tweaking the B4, but I already had a XXX-CR that felt better to me.
If I ran a stock slash for a couple of months would that give me experience to drive in the 2wd 1/10 buggy mod class with a 7.5 motor? Or should I stick to 1/10 stock buggy and a 17.5 motor, since it is my first buggy?

You dont have to wait for the motor to wind up. Instant power. I wonder if there could be too much power and not enough traction in a buggy. Probably have to be pretty smooth around turns. My son has a slash ( he is only 3.5yrs) and I drive it alot. Raced it 3 times and already want something faster. Charge and go seems pretty simple to me. How heavy are the electrics campared to nitro, about the same or more? What set ups are you using ? Kyhosho is coming out with an RTR that is around $500. Modify the stearing linkage and should be a great car. Nobody has one so who knows.

You guys who were nitro and went electric would you ever go back nitro? My first 1/8 buggy, trying to decide between electric or nitro. Tuned alot of airplane motors but, no car motors. Not sure if I want to spend all my time tuning motors again. I do like the the sound of gas motors. Thanks

So rtr buggys with larger than .21 are ok. I guess they are not the fastest thing on the block but, would work for a beginner like me. I do have a slash I drive every day.

If just starting out dont most tracks require a .21 motor in a buggy for novice/sportsman class? Some of the RTR buggys have a larger motor and would not be suitable for racing. Is this correct?

RC10T4 is 2WD. I am leaning toward 4WD buggy. Trucks are not popular here. Some one said 2WD is faster because it's lighter and was wondering, does that sound right to the rest of you?

RE: Newbie Help 4wd or 2wd
Year round, I meant racing at the track. I was not thinking of driving in the snow and freezing my fingers off. I do like driving in my yard. Buggies are too low for that but, 4WD will have some adavantage in the grass. I will have to watch some more 2WD and 4 WD. What is that called when you drift sideways full power out of a turn. Do 4WD power slides out of turn or there is too much traction? Sounds like 4WD is turn and full power to the next turn. Then 2WD would be more fun. I love power sliding in my basement with the slash.

Newbie Help 4wd or 2wd
I have been flying RC planes for years and recently bought my son a slash. I am now hooked. After two weeks it seems slow to me. Really want NITRO but, snow in missouri sucks and want something year round. Want to stay electric off road 1/10 buggy but, cannot deicide to go 2wd or 4wd. Leaning toward 4wd but, dont have experience with 4wd. Probably drive in my yard and compete at the local track. Saw a guy selling his 4wd to go back to 2wd. Seems to me 4wd handles better at the track and on grass. What is the attraction to 2wd bisides maybe lower price?

Sounds like a great plane. What length motor stand offs are you using for the DA or DL ? I think the DL requires a 1/8 longer stand off. Does anyone have a video?

Thanks for the measurements. I either take the main gear off for transport or buy a trailer. Took a break from flying gas and have been flying foamys for a few years. Man how time passes fast when your having fun! Waiting for a couple of people to who actually owns one to to tell me their overall weight and their set up before I pull the trigger.

Thanks for the pics nice looking plane. Could someone please give me the width of the main gear, height from ground to top of cowl, top of canopy, top of tail and width of horizontal stab? Oh yes and height of the main gear? Would it be feasible to remove the main gear for transport and then install it once at the field? I sold my trailer but, my car's back seat is removable. Thanks

RE: Do you use securing collar with axi
What would be the best electric motor for a 60ounce plane to fly 3d? Want to fly on a 3cell li-po 2150 25 battery due to weight restrictions. My choice is an axi 2826/12 due to I favor axi, but it really needs a 4 cell then weight is added. You seem to be knowledgeable in electrics. I have looked at some static thrust numbers but, static numbers are more confusing as the motors get larger. Thanks for your help

RE: Do you use securing collar with axi
Thanks Measured rpms today. Measured 7200 max but 6800 rpms was average after the first burst. No telling what the rpms are once the prop unloads. First time to measure electric rpms and just think I have always had a meter for my gas planes. Put a led flashlight shining back at the plane to nullify the indoor lighting. It was a SF prop. Guess it's time to switch to an E prop. SF prop was 10x4.7 and from what I have read, go up one in pitch to a 10x5.5 E would be the ticket. Have been flying electrics for some time but, gas planes was my main concentration till now. Flew my CST Katana today across my street on a dead end street and 46 degrees outside !
