RE: What Sport Jet / easy scale jet for K170F Kingtech
Hi DiscoWings, I have to support Jeremy here : a JMP Hustler would offer ALL the features that you are looking for : - full gear doors ( that close as tight as the ones on real jets !! ) - good speeds ( in excess of 250mph with your supposed engine ! ) - ease of flight ( comes natural since it is Tom Cook`s design ! ) and most of all - it is and will remain an exclusive ship that many will never ever enjoy owing !! Of course, after all that said and beeing the proud owner of a Hustler AND a Firebird, there is only Firebird left for a Hustler owner to get to the summit of RC-fast jets !![:D] see you Hans

RE: Yellow Starfire Build
Hi Don, Well done on that Starfire here !! Building a Starfire (EDF) as well and looking at your main wheel install, one thing makes me wonder pretty much - how can you stow these main wheels and the strut into that thin wing crossection ? I just see the big distance between the wheels and the strut and I strongly guess that this whole assy is protruding out of the lower wing surface by quite an amount ! A picture from below with the gear retracted would make it all clear ! Good luck on the maiden ! see you Hans

RE: Turbo props at Jet meets
Hi guys, I just voted yes, even though I am still missing a really adequately powered turboprop ! The SPT5, as the wren mk54 as well, are just not good enough to power these large 45 pounds ships like the comp-arf tucano or the HT modellbau PC-21`s scale like !! If you have ever witnessed the display performance of the full size PC-21 ( as I did several times ), you would agree ! That airplane is almost a jet ! A turboprop powersystem to power these ships properly must be based on something like an AMT Pegasus or jetcat 180 to mimik the flight performance of the respective full size counterparts ! PS : Dieter Albisser ( who many of you might know since he is producing a lot of turbine parts for quite some respected manufactures ) is a close friend of mine and he is actually working on a peggy based turboprop that will deliver up to 26kw to move those large ships around in a way that would make every jet guy jealous ! see you from Switzerland Hans

RE: Loooooong slooooowwwwwww rolls.....how to?
Hi guys, Just for all of you to tell how good it can get concerning veeeery slow rolling - CPLR ( Christophe Paysant le-Roux - 7 times F3A world champion ) used to celebrate his victories with just another of his perfect pattern routines after the contest - but this time overlayed by a slow roll of about 5 to 8 seconds per 360 degrees !! That is from the moment of lift off to 5s before touch down ( roughly 6 min of flight time !!) I will never ever forget this kind of performance !! see you Hans

RE: Worlds Best RC Jet Pilot
Hi Joe, Well, I think that the best rc-pilots in the world ( be it pattern , heli, or jets ) have a pretty relaxed relationship towards their ships ! Money and hours spent on these is just of secondary concern, isn`t it ? For them, the planes are very often just their workingtools, (for us, it is dream come true !) as is the Mercedes F1 car ( worth 2 million or more ! ) for Michael Schumacher ! A crash here or there, who cares ? Definitely not him - he is NOT spending the money or the set up time for it, but all the mechanics working long nights through to prepare the next one for him ! ) His job is to go for the limits ! Just recall yourself flying on the simulator - much better than in real world ! A crash here or there - who cares !! see you Hans

RE: Worlds Best RC Jet Pilot
Hi guys, As mentioned before by some other guys - top pattern flyers would outperform us jet guys with ease if given the opportunity ! And that is because of a simple fact - they exercise and train almost every day and therefore can handle every ship in all three axis at every moment of the flight ! ( I remember CPLR flying the whole pattern ( which is around a six minutes flight )overlayed by a very slow roll (about 10seconds /360 degrees ! ) I am totally convinced - a guy like CPLR (Christophe Paysant Leroux , 7 times pattern champ) or Onda from Japan could fly EVERY jet to perfection and as low as you want after a very short aclimatisation ! see you Hans

RE: No more EDF for me!
Hi Dominic, Well, as said before, the Futura was probably the wrong ship for EDF ! Just have a look at this brand new inception.e ( find it on Schuebeler`s pages )- that is the technology for large scale EDF`s !! I am totally convinced that a plane like this will compete on the same level as turbine ships ! Of course - exceptional investment necessary - but if you are a proficient flyer on a reasonable field, it will last for hundreds of wonderful flights as all F3A pattern ships do, especially when driven on electrons !! The EDF future looking bright !! see you Hans

RE: What is the function of crow?
Hi guys, As mentioned before here, a big advantage of raising the ailerons instead of droping them in landing configuration on model aircraft is the neutralizing effect it has concerning pitch trim ! This is particularly evident on airframes with swept wings ! Of course, the real, full sized ships never raise the ailerons in landing configuration ! Rather, and as mentioned before as well, they drop it together with the flaps ! BUT, and that`s the vital point here - all the big ones (at least the ones I have flown) have a HORIZONTAL STABILIZER TRIM ! So they can counteract the resulting pitch down moment that normally occurs upon flaps ( and possible aileron down movement ) with the pitch trim ( adjustment of the whole horizontal stab ) and ergo, they still have the whole range of that ELEVATOR deflection at hand to control the approach angle and of course the landing flare ! Now, almost none of our model ships have such a horizontal stab pitch trim and therefore have to rely on the elevators alone ! Trimming out the plane in landing configuration ( especially with the ailerons dropped together with the flaps ) with the elevators alone might leave you with too little elevator up authority in difficult approach and landing conditions ! That is THE reason why I fly my jets with some crow in landing configuration ! And, believe me here, coming from the full size world, it took quite some time for me to accept that raising ailerons in landing configuration can be an advatage in the model world !! see you Hans

RE: One of my new Jet project for the swedish winter!
Hi Lasse, As mentioned some time ago in your build thread of the initial UB - a JMP Firebird would be a nice stablemate to an UB !! Here as well, you could spend some very satisfying building and finishing hours and end up with your personalized ship ! Further - a lot of the equipment needed for the UB does suit Firebird as well ( especially the Oly ! ) And Tom is just such a guy to deal with ! So, why not ? see you Hans

RE: Downwind turn Myth
Hi guys, Last amendment from my side here : When talking about the most important parameter of an aicraft flying (yes, the AoA!), one more correlation that is of big help to determine the AoA of your ship : On a given configuration, the AoA of your machine CORRESPONDS to your actual ELEVATOR INPUT !!! (or stab incidence as a whole ) Now , this is true not only in straight and level flight but also during turns !! Once you adopt this rule into your flying of model (and FS !) aircraft, you will be a safer pilot !! see you Hans

RE: Downwind turn Myth
Hi Moerig, YES ! He is changing his attitude towards the matter ! And more, he knows and realizes the abilitiy a good MODEL airplane pilot must possess to make this hobby a success : Flying without any real airdatas of the ship itself, just by looking at it and interpreting the one and most important parameter of all : the AoA ( angle of attack ) !! The thread has beared some fruit finally !! Hans PS : also a good FS pilot should posses this ability to survive his flying career!!

RE: Thank you AMT Netherlands!!!!
Hi Jeremy, So, how many flights on your Firebird then ? Mine is going like hell and the smoke system performs perfectly as well !! Needless to say that the AMT Oly is running flawless and at 112000 RPM`s, she is producing a real storm !! I did violate the boundaries of our flying site several times though; it eats up such a huge amount of space when hauling around at max thrust !! I usually fly away some .9 miles on either side ! It is always a big show when I take Firebird out to the field ! see you Hans

RE: Weatronic 2.4 RF diagnostic tool
Hi roger.alli , hi Dave Gladwin, To Roger : I am happy with the normal mode of the gyros . I did some special programming on them to blend out the gyro sensivity proportional to stick deflection and thus I have my Firebird dialed in wonderfully with beeing very stable around neutral sticks but yet very crispy upon large stick deflections !! That is the way it should be ! I personally think that heading hold could yield some benefits to fixed wing aircraft as well and I would very much appreciate to experiment on this !! Therefore, it would be nice if Wea would finally expand the gyros capability to include a nice heading hold mode ! Besides, their equipment was always advertised WITH a heading hold mode and as you figure out, Gigacontrol always had the respective menus ! To Dave : Yes, please, incorauge them to go ahead with the activation of this heading hold mode ! All other gyros on the market have that feature nowadays and it it is definitely only a software matter ! Regards Hans

RE: Stall Recovery
Hi Race21, Yes, of course it has the big and very common pitchtrim wheel as all the more conventional aircraft have ! (and as you mention it is just used to set the pitch trim for T/O or in case of rare multiple failures during sim training ) PS : On our new 330`s, even the T/O trim is set automatically - one more reason to keep that trim wheel out of the daily routine ! I just wanted to point out that they DO NOT have the usual pitch trim SWITCH on the joke that is used regularly by any pilot in those other aircraft to trim the aircraft "hands off "and therefore easily remembered and applied should the plane getting into pitch attitude extremes ! As you know, the Airbuses are always trimmed to hands off automatically and, very important, they do not show any out of trim condition via the sidestick feeling (say increased stick force ) So, this, most probably, still available but almost never used function of using the manual trim WHEEL might just have been "forgotten" by the crew since it is so rarely used during standard ops ! Again, the investigation will cover all those aspects ! regards Hans

RE: Stall Recovery
Hi guys, As an experienced Airbus-driver (10000 hrs + ), I just get to know from the latest edition of "Flight Internatinal " magazin that the horizontal stabilizer setting ran away to 13 degrees ANU (Aircraft Nose Up) !! Since all Airbus aircraft have automatic trim function (even when flying fully manual )you never get to touch that manual trim wheel during thousands of hours flying !! For you to know : all Airbuses of the today standards (A320 and up) do therefore NOT have any trim switch at all !! Now, if in this case, the trim really ran away to 13deg ANU for any reason ( probably due to the false, low speed indication from the speed indicators and the autopilot beeing engaged in altitude hold mode ), you are just not able to get this nose down, even with full sidestick forward pressure !! This fact might have played a vital role in the crews unability to regain a nose down attitude and hence airspeed ! Furthermore, the chance exists that they ran into a deep stall ( no laminar airflow over ANY flight control surface and hence no response to ANY stick input ! ) with the horizontal stab beeing in this extreme position ! We will get to learn more once the final investigation results are published. One thing remains certain though: you MUST NOT ( NEVER EVER !! ) fly into red echoes of CB-clouds at cruising altitude !! These active clouds have the potential to knock EVERY aircraft out of the marginal envelope of save flight left at high altitude (coffin corner ), especially in the aquator region , where those clouds grow up to FL 480 ( say 48000ft )and thus, are extremely intense at FL 350 cruising level ! see you Hans
