RE: Bad Esc
I did what you said and the servo worked fine, as I suspected since I ruled out the 2.4 tx/rx system being the problem when I connected the old FM tx/rx system after I started having problems. I'm not saying that I have a bad esc, I'm asking if I have a bad esc or if I've missed something in the programming.
ORIGINAL: guver Would you please plug a servo into the throttle channel and see if it too goes crazy? This would point the finger at the radio being the trouble. I'm guessing that the radio is fine and the servo will do exactly as you tell it to do with throttle movements thus putting the blame on the esc. I'd go thru set-up esc if that's the trouble before calling the esc ''bad''
Bad Esc
I recently bought an EZ RUN S10 ESC off of e bay new and sealed in the box. I put it in my slash hooked it up to my vxl motor and FM radio and receiver and it ran fine. Recently I upgraded to the traxxas TQ 2.4 ghz radio and receiver (not the TQI) and now I'm having problems. It will just take off at full throttle with no warning or input from me on the radio. It will also act irratic and go and stop, once again with no input from me on the radio. At first I thought it was the radio, so I re-connected the old FM radio and receiver to it and got the same result. So, my question is do I have a faulty esc or is there something I'm missing in the programming? When I say "programming" I mean via the set key, or button. I do not have a programming box. If there is something I'm missing can someone give me step by step instructions to resolve this? I've also contacted hobbywing about it and am waiting to hear back, but I thought maybe someone on here could give me a faster reply. Thank you in advance to anyone that can help.

I'm sure I'll have like 50 people asking me, "who cares? This is rcu not traxxas." but if anyone here has an account on traxxas's community board then I have a question for you. Since traxxas took their site down a couple of days ago for maintenance have you been able to log into the community boards? I was logged in before they took the site down, but since they put it back up I'm no longer logged in and now I can't get traxxas to let me log back in. As always thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

RE: EMaxx on single VXL with single battery
I tried the same thing and nearly fried my vxl system because as some of the other guys have mentioned it's too much weight. Your best bet is to sell your vxl system (you should get a good amount of money for it on here or e-bay) and get something made for monster trucks like an 80 amp system from kershaw designs or an hv maxx system from novak, just to name a couple.

RE: t-maxx engine problem
While your at the lhs pick up some new fuel line (about $3-$5) and replace your fuel lines. Also check your lid on your fuel tank. The reason I suggest thos things is because it's possible you have a air leak somewhere in your fuel system. Other then that, the glow plug and needle valves I made in previous posts, I can't think of any other reasons why your engine would be doing what it's doing. If all those suggestions don't work then your engine might need to be replaced.

RE: t-maxx engine problem
Traxxas has an illustration of what your high speed and low speed needle valves should look like at factory settings, along with your idle screw. Here's the link http://traxxas.com/support/Factory-Break-InCarb-Settings Most likely you will only have to re-set your high speed needle valve (most people don't mess with the low speed needle valve or the idle screw) but it would be a good idea to look them over to make sure they're set where they're supposed to be. If replacing the glow plug and resetting the valves on your engine doesn't get you anywhere it might be time to replace the engine which you can most likely do at your local hobby shop or through traxxax.com

RE: t-maxx engine problem
easiest solution is to replace your glow plug (get 2 from your hobby shop just in case). If that doesn't get you anywhere set your high speed needle back to factory settings (about 4 turns out from closed) and tune from there. The reason I suggested getting to glow plugs is because if it doesn't start the first time after you replace the plug then you've fouled it out (very easy to do) so you will need to get 2 new plugs just in case you need to do some tuning on top of replacing the plug. I know that's all probably clear as mud but it's better to be safe than sorry. Hope that helps.

I had the same problem with my 3.3 on my maxx. I replaced the one way bearing and the ez start has been turning the engine just fine since then. Most likely you will have to do the same thing.

You can mess with the spur/clutch bell gearing some by going bigger with your gears, but you have to watch your engine temps to make sure you don't fry your engine.....just a thought off the top of my head....

RE: Do I need a 2.4 ghz?
ORIGINAL: HJJFFFAA Bad choice....
It might be a bad choice if I was going to use it for racing and needed all the bells and whistles to tweak my steering servo and esc to respond within a millisecond of my input on the radio, and mix the channels on my receiver and crap like that. Truth is I'm just going to be bashing and I just want a radio to get my truck to move without glitching. That said I'm not going to pay out a bunch of money on a 2.4 with every option under the sun just so I can bash.

Do I need a 2.4 ghz?
Hi all, I recently bought a hv-maxx 6.5 system off of e-bay that includes the old style esc with the purple heat sinks. I have been trying to use my traxxas am radio and receiver with it. The problem I am having is the esc will let me set up my am system with it, but it will start glitching and the motor will start turning at a slow speed and/or the esc will recognize the am system for a few seconds and then I have to set it up again. I've checked my lipo and it is fully charged. I'm using a 3s lipo which is below the esc's tolerance of 4s. With all that said I need some questions answered by someone who has experience with this specific system. First is like I said in the title of this thread, will a 2.4 ghz system solve my problems, or can I use my am system with this esc? If not, is it possible that my esc shot? If neither of those is the problem, is it because I haven't set up a throttle profile yet? I've downloaded the instruction manuals off of novak's web site, but I'm not real sure if I'm doing everything right. As always thank you in advance to anyone who can help.

RE: Did I mess up my hv maxx system?
I figured it out via another forum. t-maxx diffs are reversed from e-maxx diffs, and since I'm running a brushless system in a t-maxx chassis I need to flip the diffs, so forward is forward. I also looked up the manual online and the hv-maxx has different "throttle profiles", as novak calls them and profile one.....also the default profile for the esc.....is forward only and reverse is just break. Looks like I have some work to do. Just got one question. Do I flip them left to right (i.e. left tire to the right side and vise versa) or do I flip the diffs front to back (i.e. front diff in the back and back diff in the front) I haven't torn into the maxx yet, so I don't even know if both options are possible or not....just asking so I will know before I start taking it apart.

I'll give that a try.....the wire leads coming off of the esc. CVD's is one of the things on my list of things to get for this project. It's actually a t-maxx I'm converting to a bl e-maxx
