RE: Nitro Guide and FAQs
wow. well apparently i havent logged on in well over a year and havent made a post in over a year and a half. the reason being is that i have moved out of the hobby and im in college now pursuing a paramedics degree at eastern ky university. every once in a while i get an email from a new memeber asking about tuning and breaking engines in so i decided to log in today and see what was up. i wrote this guide when i was just a 16 year old noob actually and im still pretty excited to see that it has helped so many people, and that people reference it quite often apparently, and i'd like you all to continue to use it as a reference for new people and whoever else needs it, continue the dicussions on it, etc. as of now there are just over 40,000 views and it would make me happy to see that double and triple in the coming months or year. theres no reason that every nitro owner shouldnt have at least skimmed this article once. enough with my cocky rant :D i've kinda forgot at least half of what i apparently used to know, freinds occasionally bring theirs to me to mod or whatever, but point being, im probably not the most knowledgible about this subject anymore but i can try to help anyways. when it comes to tuning just refer to my guide, i knew what i was talking about then (somehow) adios and we'll see if i log back on in the next year =D

RE: Nitro Guide and FAQs
tune it to where it has a clean crisp throttle response and a smooth power curve all the way to the top, then put a drop of water, if it pops and sizzles like that then its too hot

RE: Standard plug for turbo head?
nope, the turbo head is tapered, it would leak too much and might not even screw in hardly any at all, you can try it but i highly doubt it will work well

you obviously screwed something up, modded engines usually tune just as easy and make much more power

RE: Porting/polishing my engine, should I do this to the crank?
ORIGINAL: brett65 When porting that much, that has to dramatically weaken the shaft right? Are these strictly race engines for you guys, and have you noticed a shorter lifespan because of it?
drmatically weaken the shaft? removing a little bit wont do that, these cranks are super, super hard steel, and the life of the engine isnt really affected unless you get metal shavins everywhere or cant tune

RE: Shimming a head and removing head and backplate screws...
try heating the screws with a soldering iron, and as for shimming, you dont need to do it until you get above 30%, but all yo do is buy a head shim for your engine and add it to the other shims once the head comes off

RE: Shimming a head and removing head and backplate screws...
you were running too hot of a plug, thats why you were detonating, the only way to get the screws out are, well, to unscrew them, be careful because they get stuck and will strip if you dont use the exact size that you need
