RE: help im a noobie and got engine trouble with my hyper 8.5 with a mac star .28
I owned a macstar and wasnt that happy with it. I would have stuck with the .21 in the buggy. The macstar was a touchy engine. When you are making adjustments, make them very small adjustments like 1/12 of a turn at a time. Set your high speed needle (HSN) first, so that you get good high speed passes. Then you can adjust the low speed needle (LSN) to get good reaction time on the throttle trigger. You cant tune until your engine is at operating temp.

RE: How many min. per tank do you guys get? (Losi 8ight, any)
One benefit to a longer fuel line and filter is it gives more run time if you flip the buggy on the track. If your buggy is upside down the fuel pickup in the bottom of the tank cant pull fuel so it runs on what is left in the line until a marshal can get to it and flip it. Run times depend on tuning, surface, carb venturi, driving style, engine type. Pick up the book How to Tune a Nitro Engine and it will walk you through just about anything you need to do to your nitro engine.

RE: New to RC, need some assistance with the car!
First I would google the engine and get stock settings. That is always a good place to start. Trims are for very small adjustments, don't try tuning your buggy with them. It looks as though you have a three needle carb. Your high speed needle(HSN) is the screw that sticks up above the fuel inlet on the carb. The mid range needle(MRN) is just below that where the HSN housing goes into the carb. Your idle adjustment screw is in that same area toward the front of the carb. Your low speed needle(LSN) is opposite your MRN where your throttle linkage is attached to you carb. At full break you should have a 1-1.5mm gap opening looking down the throat of your carb. Start with factory settings, I am sure you can find them somewhere on this forum or online. When making adjustments make them very small, like a 1/12th of a turn at a time. Start by adj. HSN so that you get good strong high speed passes with no bogging an a decent trail of smoke coming from the stinger of the pipe. Then you can adj. your LSN so you get nice crisp reaction when you squeeze the throttle trigger on your transmitter. On the LSN you sometimes have to adj. linkage to get proper feel. If you have your MRN set to factory settings you should be ok, as tuning the MRN is a little trickier for someone new to tuning a rc engine. good luck and have patience.

A lot of RTR's come stock with grease in the diff. As far as what diff oil to put in with a rebuild of the diff depends on the surface you are on.

RE: Will baking PBS (Pillow Ball Suspension) make it less likely to bend?
You can temper metal by rapid heating and cooling, but I am not to sure about doing it in an oven. I would order more so you don't run out. You need to work on your driving a little more thats all. With everything that these buggies go through, parts are going to bend and break. How excactly are you bending them?

RE: engine dies on landing
What kind of chassis braces? Are you getting excessive chassis flex. Check that your CB spins freely, not only bearings, but proper clearance of the shoes/pivot pins. I would pull the engine open it check it for visable problems. Reassemble using proper sealant. Install CB with good bearings and proper shimming, and try from there. Harder springs may give a quicker clutch return as RPM's slow.

RE: Come race with us.
I am sure you meant nothing by it. At the tracks down my way you do have to have your ROAR card to run. I do agree with you on tabletop placement, but a lesson I am sure will be learned fast. You can sometimes try to fit to much into one track, but it still looks like fun. I think about 6-7 hours from my neck of the woods, a little to long of a drive for me.

Check your breaks if your tight , especially on the fronts you'll dip after a launch. I've never had that problem(front end being heavy that is). Are you the only one having this problem? If so it is your set up or driving, if not its the launch ramp.

Looks like a fun tech track to me. There are a few deep corners that someone could squat in to marshall. It will force you to become a better driver. PVC is per ROAR rules for 1/8 scale off road nitro. Most clubs stick to those rules when it is more than a run of the mill weekend race. Barrier specs 1/8 off-road, Fuel -0.75 7.5 Plywood exterior, 3 diameter PVC Pipe interior.

RE: URGENT!!! DRIVE PROBLEM WITH BRAND NEW CAR..PLEASE HELP TO MAKE 10 YEAR OLD BOY HAPPY!!
If you have proper gear mesh between clutch gear and spur gear, and they both spin when throttle is given, then you problem is probably the set screws in the outdrive cups from one or both of your diffs. If you look where you drivetrain enters your front and rear diffs, you will see a cup that is attached to your driveshaft dogbone/universal. There is a set screw/grub screw that holds it tight to the diff pinion gear inside the diff housing, check to see if this is loose or has fallen out. Very common on RTR's. I would go through buggy and use threadlock on all metal to metal screws and bolts.(red threadlock only) Pictures always help people helping you. Cogs as in cog wheels in a clock, a gear with teeth.

RE: Failsafe
I have never lost a throttle linkage. I have on the other hand lost power and I can say a throttle return spring does work. I have had it work in several races. I dont use a servo with extreme torque for throttle just steering. My steering servo requires fast transit speed not extreme torque. I am not trying to argue, I have had them save my buggy. So I can say first hand they work. As far as stress on servo it has not given me a problem yet, but better to burn a servo then pay for a lot of repairs due to runaway or someones hospital bill.

RE: Failsafe
Then its not a throttle return spring hence the name throttle return. When you have no power to your servos your throttle return spring should be strong enough to bring you carb to 0 throttle. I have hit landings that have cut power to reciever and failsafe and spring has brought it to idle.

RE: Failsafe
In a loss of power you are going to lose power to failsafe. A failsafe will kick in with a low signal, low voltage, not no voltage. A throttle return spring will save you in a loss of power situation. Set it where you want as long as it doesnt take off and break someones ankle. I like JR for steering and futaba thr/brk.

Nothing wrong with full break, but 1/4 doesnt hurt. You should have the end points set on your trans/servos to avoid stress on servos and linkage.

RE: Oil the outside filter or not?
I have never had a problem oiling just the inner of my 2 stage filter. They do clog faster if you oil the outer element, but I guess it depends on the surface you run on. If you run on a damp clay or dirt you dont have as much dust. you should change out your filter elements before every race/session anyway so does it really matter. Probably not.

RE: Main Engine Bearing Removal...???
It is easiest to remove sleeve while engine still has flywheel, crankshaft, conrod, and piston still installed. With the cooling head off, preheat the engine, take the piston to BDC. Insert plastic zipties into a few fuel ports in the sleeve and start the piston on its upward stroke, slowly work the sleeve out then disassemble the engine the rest off the way.
