RE: Seagull - Harrier .46 Anyone had any experience?
Greetings all! I am the new owner to a second hand .46 Harrier and I need help. I found CG info earlier in this thread to be bewtween 140 and 150mm with 160mm even being ok, but could someone scan the page with those numbers and possibly the high, and low rates info, and spoilerons, elevons info? I appreciate any help in this matter, we were cg'ing in the 5 inch range and it was a handfull to fly, with several crashes through the sky is the best way to descibe it. I want to fly it this sunday, oh and is there anywhere in the manual that states to put any thrust angle into the engine mount? Thanks in advance for any help and have a great day! -Harold Dexter R/C Dexter, Missouri 63841 573-614-4080 www.dexterrc.com

RE: Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS
Maybe. If you y-harness your ailerons together will that not leave 2 channels available for you to "marry" the flap servos with? You could still have a flaperon setting available to you if you wanted, or just a 1 or 2 position flap setting. Try the same mix you used on the ailerons but switch it to gear/flaps and see what happens. Hope this helps. -Harold

RE: Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS
It depends on whether you are using a computer radio or not. If you are, you can program 2 channels to work together, i.e. Flaps/Gear servos to work at the same time without the need for a y-harness. I had to use a y-harness on mine because I use a 6 channel reciever and I had to use a "y" between the Battery/Flaps input (Channel 6 on my UL reciever). If you do not run a computer radio, then yes you will need a y-harness and a reverser, or the servo manufacturers make a reverse rotation servo you could get for one of your flaps and then just a simple y-harness will make your servos go up and down in unison. Ok, that may be a bit confusing. What radio do you use? I use a JR XP6102 Air/Heli Radio that I love and will continue to use until I get a DX series Spektrum. Let's start with what you radio you run and I'll answer your question with greater accuracy. Hope that helps. Have a great day! -Harold

The prop spinner attaches with a single hex head screw in the center (screws into the special prop nut that came with the plane).

RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum
Wow, look what I started! 292 pages later and I'd say we have a great volume of info on the #4. Keep up the good work all! btw, I do not fly the #4 anymore, heck for that matter any FP or CP heli. I mostly fly the CX/CX2. I found that Coaxial helis are more fun and relaxing. I am not bagging on the #4 at all, I did have fun with it, and it was my first heli... Have a great day and keep it 2 mistakes above the ground ;-)

RE: Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS
I did not epoxy the tail either, just bolts and they are still tight after 2 flights. I lost a cowl screw during flight #1 and I did not bother to replace it for flight #2, The place I put the screw did not have any "meat" for the screw to grab hold, and I tried the CA trick which didn't work. As sweet as this thing flies with the CG where H9 says to put it, I do not want to change it. This plane is perfectly balanced where they say, and I agree with them. One thing I am going to try next sunday is to stay up for 10-12 minutes and burn more fuel. I think this will aid in a nose up attitude on landing with less weight in the nose and therefore a softer landing. When I landed on flight #2 last sunday, I had roughly half a tank left. I want to take baby steps and see what kind of run time the stock tank will give with some reserve for a couple of go-arounds for safety. This week, My goal for the F-22 is to fix the small rip in the balsa near the nose wheel and to strengthen that area, and to remove all of the god-awful wrinkles in the covering that appeared on her first adventure outdoors. This plane had a couple wrinkles before, but after sitting in the sun for a couple hours, geez, it aged considerably. I am also going to use our vinyl cutter to make some bright yellow graphics for the underside of the wing, it was pretty difficult to see which end was up at a distance. I'm thinking yellow flames that go from the fuse to the wing tips, they should really stand out against a blue/grey sky. Speaking of the vinyl cutter... If anyone is interested in flames or any other custom graphics, shoot me an e-mail for a quote. In your e-mail with the subject line "Vinyl Work", give me the dimensions of the design you want and if you just want your name and AMA #, let me know how long by how wide you want the letters/numbers. All of my graphics will come with application tape ready for you to transfer to your project. I have very reasonable prices and you will be happy with the quality of the vinyl, it's a 7 year (outdoor rated) vinyl and it can be pulled around curves fairly well. I have White, Black, Red, Blue, Yellow, and Green, and I can custom order many Specialty, holgraphic and many other colors and shades depending on how large the job is.

RE: Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS
Sundays' flying report... I flew the F-22 2 times today! It is awesome. I was shaking after the first flight, and settled down for some aerobatics for the second flight. After a few trim setting changes in mid-flight, the Raptor tracked straight and true "hands-off". Problem.... I have not flown such a fast and heavy airplane and I need some tips. I had 2 very hard landings and I was sure I was adding alot of up elevator trying to flare, but it still landed on all 3 wheels and FAST. Can this bird be brought in at a much higher AOA (without tip stalling)and settle down on the mains first, like the Hangar 9 F-22 video shows? I have to do a small amount of repair work before next weekend. The plane was flyable after the second touchdown (flaps extended) but I noticed a wobble from the nose gear. The wood at the bottom of the fuse that reinforces the gear ripped a small amount length-wise, and it caused the nose gear to rock forward and back a little. I should be able to repair it with a small block of balsa and CA. Thanks Hangar 9 for making a fun ARF! I don't care what the nay sayers think, this thing looks awesome, it doesn't matter if it's in the air, or sitting on the ramp. As the owner of the LHS, I could of had any plane I wanted for my birthday this year, and I'm glad I chose the F-22. Anybody have setup tips for a JR XP6102 or similar computer radio? I am pretty much set, but I was wondering about D/R and Expo rates for all of the surfaces. I went a little conservative on the Rudder throws, and I set the Ailerons and Elevators to the instructions provided. I wanted to crank the Aileron throw to 2 times what the instructions indicated, because I noticed in flight that the plane doesn't roll fast at all, and I thought a fighter jet would look way better with some crisp Aileron rolls for the spectators, nothing the break the wings off with, but something a bit more spectacular!;-). Mr. McConville, do you have any expert tips to squeeze all of the fun out of this bird? I ran it today with a 11X6 wood prop, is that enough? Enough babbling for now, I am so excited I cannot sleep! I'll post some more stories soon, and maybe link to a video or two at my website, [link=http://dexterrc.com]Dexter R/C[/link], as soon as we shoot some F-22 footage. Everyone have a safe and productive week! -Harold

RE: Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS
I am happy to say that I am the proud owner of the Grey ARF F-22. I mounted a .52 Evo Engine. The Evo engines are less expensive than OS, and are broken in and set from the factory, and yes they are made in China, but OS is made in Japan. I have just finished setting up my radio gear yesterday and I hope to maiden it this Sunday. I'll post an update Sunday evening. I am confused at the control surface set-up in the manual, it states that the Ailerons should move just 3/16" up and down. Is that enough? I am going to set up D/R for that 3/16" and then more for stunt mode I think. If anyone has done retracts, can you post pics and helpful hints??? I had to move the receiver battery into the main radio compartment to balance the Raptor. I had it in the tail like the manual said, and the plane would slowly settle down on it's tail on the build table. I use a 6 Volt 2700MAh NiMH receiver battery pack and that is quite a bit heavier than a 4.8 Volt pack. I also set the bird up for working flaps, so there are 2 extra servos worth of weight behind the CG.

RE: ParkZone P-51 Mustang RTF
You can run your stock packs with the brushless controller and motor. You will save weight and fly faster of course on LiPo packs, but don't even think of buying a LiPo pack until you read and most importantly, understand all of the safety rules about them.

At that price point of $14.99, I can takeoff and get 100 seconds, land upload to laptop, takeoff for another 100 seconds... You get the idea. I'm going to Radio Shack for Christmas. P.S. I am back on the face of the planet... I have moved to the Midwest, and plan to get even more active in the R/C field. NO MORE CUBICLES FOR ME!

RE: ParkZone P-51 Mustang RTF
Half of my battery packs are 8 cell, so the extra voltage kills the motor quicker, and yes the motor is worn after 10-12 Flights. I can still fly, it's just not as fun as a new motor. I understand that any imperfections and repairs will cause undo drag on the airframe, and that could be causing some of the performance problems(I've had at least 10 mid-air collisions with my stock F-27, so the CA and epoxy, and heck even the packing tape are incresing the weight some I'm sure of it). I can't wait to do combat with frankie.

RE: ParkZone P-51 Mustang RTF
If you've been flying alot in the last 3 months, it's probably the motor that has worn out, and not the battery pack. I get maybe 10-12 flights on the F-27 until I notice slower and slower climb outs and less than par performance, I slap a fresh motor in and whoa!, the speed is back! Also, what charger are you using to charge your battery? If you are using the ParkZone charger, junk it and cut the connector off of it and make an adapter so you can charge with one of the many awesome chargers available. My charger is the Great Planes Triton, and I love it! It will charge virtually any cell out there, even my 9.6 volt cordless drill has been converted to charge on the Triton.. The ICE is another good alternative. All of my electric vehicles have been converted to Dean's Ultra Plugs (except the wifes Firebird Outlaw), so I like being somewhat standardized on electrical connections with the downside being that if you need warranty work, you might run into problems if the OEM's see your connectors instead of their own. I have had 1 Stock F-27 Speed Control/RX go bad with 10 flights on it and I had my Dean's Plugs on it when I sent it in, and ParkZone happily replaced it because it was not damaged from my plugs, it was a bad FET on the board. Enough with this senseless babbling, I'm going to bed! lol.

RE: ParkZone P-51 Mustang RTF
I agree we need more warbirds in the PZ fleet, but I am partial to the warhawk, and corsair. My only gripe with PZ is the fact that they buck the system and use non standardized components in the electrics systems. I would spend a little extra $$$ if they would include cool stuff like 3 wire servos(Like on the Typhoon), and an fm reciever and seperate speed control, so I could fly it out of the box with my JR Radio. Also, Nice job on the bird dog aircraft you guys! I love em. Brad, Could you send some close ups of the retract install? I am going gaga over that mod! When I get my P-51, it is definatley going to be copied after your TA Stang!

RE: Walkera #4 Fixed Pitch Helicopter Forum
My Walkera Dragonfly came stock with the 8.4 packs and it is way under-powered. I had a nice flight going a couple week-ends ago, and it would barely climb-out, then it crashed and broke stuff i have not even checked yet. I have had no tail motor failures as yet, but the resistor is well talked about when it comes to the motor not burning out fast. I'm thinking that the 7.4v LiPo is the way to go for this heli, save weight and fly longer too. I think there was talk a while back about clipping the main rotors down to give the heli more head speed to stabilize the flight. Hope this helps.
