RE: seamaster modification advise please
I built one of my Seamaster per plans, except for adding a layer of 1/32 sheet ply to the bottom. this was because the pond where we fly had a rough shore and couple of the other planes were getting pretty beat up on the bottom. Other than that there are six of us that fly regaulary weeky without a problem, all of whom have scratch built Seamasters from the original plans of the forty size that one of the guys bought from the article in RC Magazine twenty years ago. I took the original plans and doubled the size and made a 1.20 size. A couple of the guys reduced the size to a .25. We have been flying all of these for more and 10 years now and are very happy with the performance. Go build it and good luck.

I've never had a problem with any of the five Turnegy motors I own, but I did have a magnet go on one of the AXIs I've used. Go figure. Good luck, HughO

RE: Dope Retarder
I wouldn't advise it. I've tried several additives beside Xylene and made a mess. Stick to Randolphs. Even though it will cost a little more you'll be glad you did. Good luck.

RE: New 2.4 ghz question
I have the same radio in my Dumas ChristcrafT. That's the way the radio is supposed to work. When you turn on the Tx push the throttle up and then down. I think the instructions as brief as they are, explains something to this effect. If the motor runs in reverse, you might have the motor connected backwards. Switch wires. Good Luck HughO

RE: Seaplane ARF's
You can't go wrong with the Seamaster. I've built three: the .25 size, the .45 size and I scaled up the drawings to make a 1.20 size. They are all good flyers. Good luck, HughO

RE: Royal Kits
Hello Maddingo: I'm in the process of building a Royal P-38. Got the prime coat on , getting ready to paint the finish. I don't think I'll sell it. If you like, I can make and sell you a copy of the plans. If you're interested send e-mail to hughoarch@msn.com. Making th wings of foam is a good idea. Wish I had thought of it before I framed up the one I did.

RE: Kadet Senior float conversion.
Av8RxP51 Sorry to take so long to get back to you. My computer was having a problem connecting to the internet. To answer some of your questions. My floats are 45 inches long by 6inches wide at the step. That's a little over 75% of the fuse length. I made them from Sullivan's foam cores. They were modified to something I thought looked like floats for a Schneider Cup racer. The foam was covered with fiberglass using West's epoxy and painted with Rustoleum. I tried to locate the step so I wouldn't have to add weight and still have them balance to the plane. The step is a little over half the total length of the float and located about 1 inch back of the CG. They extend 4inches past the nose. If you have access to past issues of Model Airplane News, here are some articles by John Sullivan: September,87, October, 89, and October,91, Good luck,

RE: Seaplane covering question
A suggestion when covering with monokote on plywood is to coat the wood with Balsarite first. Let it set for about a day. Put the mono on the wood tacking with an iron at one end., pulling it tight and tack the other end. work side to side from the middle. this will push the air out and should keep from getting bubbles. Good luck.

Hello seaplane. You can't go wrong with a Senor Kadet on floats. IN the last approx 20 years I've built 3 Kadets, 2 with floats. The pics are #1 and #2. Good luck. Hugho

Yeah, RiddLE 4u, You got a sharp eye. It probably does look that way. It hasn't been glued together yet. It should be better after I paint it and glue the parts together.

RE: Royal Kits
I've been working on a Royal kit for a P-38 that I bought in 1985. It's like putting a jigsaw puzzle together. The kit is well engineered, and although very good drawings, the plans don't coordinate too well. The pics show it ready to paint.

RE: Identification in your boat.
The AMA requires all model planes have the owner's name, address, and means of communication, etc., on the model. I'm surprized that NAMBA dosen't require the same for model boats. Or dose it??????????

RE: Plans for the
The original Swoose was designed by Hal BeBolt in 1940+/-. It was a small free flight plane with an Ohlsonn .23 ignition engine. I built one with a Bantum .19 and flew it off the snow when I lived in New Jersey. Later when Arden came out with the glow plug I converted my Bantum and made a control line out of it. I probably still have the plans around some place. If you're interested I moght be able to dig them up for you.

RE: Clear finish over wood
I've used Rustoleum Ultra Cover Gloss Clear (comes in a rattle can), on several of my boats including the Dumas Barrel back Chris Craft. It was over the mahogany planking with no filler. Probably about 10 coats with wet sanding between each third coat. After many sailings it has been very satisfactory. Good luck.

I've used both Krylon and Rustoleum for many years on all kinds of models. I found the the Rustoleum seems to hold up better agenst glow fuel than the Krylon. Both work good on boat hulls. Good luck

RE: My first Float Plane! The Neptune by League Models
While looking at this thread, I felt I had to share my seaplanes. They are called Seamasters. It's interesting that your plane is called a Neptune and looks almost indentical the the Seamaster. The small one was scratchbuilt almost ten years ago with plans from RCM. It had a Fox .46 engine originally, but I converted it to electric with an AXI 4250 motor. It flew the same with both engines. The larger one is scratch built with plans that I had doubled in size from the original. It has an OS 1.20 two stroke engine. The pond where we fly is located near Camarillo, CA, about 50 miles up the coast from Los Angeles. It's about 1/4 mile long and 100 yards wide, just right. We share the pond with the Pond Rats, a model boat club. With the So. Cal., climate we can fly almost any day we want, the only hitch is when the rains come the dirt road gets pretty muddy. Hope you like the pics.

Yes AXI is an outrunner. If you didn't know that, you've got a problem trying to use electric motoers on your models. Good luck

RE: seamaster plane questions
I got my original set of plans for the .25 glow size from RCM about 15 years ago and used a blueprint company to blow them up for the .45 size and the 1.20 size. Don't know if they're still available. But for a price I can have copies made for you. If you're interested, send me an email - hughoarch@msn.com.
