RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
Thanks for the inspirational post Ela! I must say that I think I made the right decision going with this CARF Hawk. I have watched a hundred videos at least before and after making the purchase and I still get most excited to see the Hawk fly. Yours is especially nice with the Swedish colors and the lights, high energy flying, and all those trees in the background!

RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
Off topic but a club member gave me a stack of old jet magazines and the amount of good info is huge. I just read a long article by David Gladwin in the Aug/Sep 2004 Jet Int Mag about fuel systems which got me properly paranoid! Also inspired by your beautiful Airworld Me 262 Dave, my next project and already fully funded, but an EDF for me.

RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
Thanks, I will use a piece of tubing at the baffle. And flip a coin when it is time for the clunk! LOL A hotly contested piece of kit that. But for sure the felt clunk does retain a bit of fuel as designed. I'll be careful with the G's until I get used to that wing, but it probably won't be flown in a very scale like manner ;)

RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
Thanks. Next up is the fuel tank plumbing. I have the stock tank, BVM UAT, fuel line and heavy clunk. Since there is only the one tank and the UAT I am sure to get air in the UAT every time he clunk is out of the fuel and I fly pretty aggressive aerobatics so I want to minimize that by keeping the clunk in the fuel! The CARF tank has a wall in the center too and I am worried it will cut the line eventually. Jack D's idea was to run a piece of fuel line from the tank cap to a brass tube which will run thru the "wall" opening and withstand any abrasion and another length of fuel tubing to the clunk. Overkill? Good idea? I have no idea whether that would increase or decrease air ingestion but surely it would help to keep the clunk from ever getting stuck in the front side of the tank.

Does the Equipment Tray glue into the fuselage as a structural member or is it just screwed into blocking and remain removable?

RE: Petrausch 1/4.5 fw-190, is it accurate?
The SiSt 1/4 uses air retracts. The quote I got was 1245 for the gear plus 240 for a downlock system. I believe 3895 for the kit and then add spinner/fanwheel and scale hinges. Plus shipping. Not for the faint of heart!

The build thread for the Petrausch on RCScalebuilder.com is also good. You should email Vogelsang Aeroscale to get pics of the SiSt 1/4 scale kit, it looks fantastic!

Ah well, we still haven't determined if the Petrausch is very accurate or not. Looking to Ramstein44 signature I would imagine he would be able to tell but only if he had one to look at.

I was told that this is it for the SiSt kits. They are available and SiSt may stop production permanently after this run...

RE: Petrausch 1/4.5 fw-190, is it accurate?
Hey if you are still looking for a Fw 190 Vogelsang Aeroscale has them in stock now, I believe he has the SiSt 1/5 and 1/4 and I just bought the Petrausch 1/4.5. I chose the Petrausch over the 1/5 SiSt for flying quality and a reasonable (for me) amount of work and expense. They weigh almost the same and cost almost the same but of course the Petrausch is bigger. It looks to be very close to scale. The 1/4 SiSt is of course the best, but it costs almost double in the end and it is much more work to assemble. For starters you must cover the wood flight control surfaces with fabric. This kit is for the top level of competition or someone who has the time and focus. Call Gotz and check them out!

looking for a cowling for 102" QQ Yak
I need a replacement cowling for my 102" OO Yak, does anyone have one or know where I can get one? Preferably painted, or maybe a 101" cowl would fit, or someone is making plain fiberglass ones that I could paint? Thanks

RE: My new YS110 is not happy, breakin, setup?
Got my engine back and flew a lot today. YS parts and service replaced the crankcase. The engine is running fine now but the needle valve is turning in flight so I need to figure out how to stop that but at least it is running well!

RE: My new YS110 is not happy, breakin, setup?
Got a couple of flights in, noticed engine not running consistantly and smoke trail would disappear and reappear, detonation in flight. Landed and bench run, engine would start and idle but then die when throttle pushed up. Realized tank no longer preassurizing, engine now has 6 tanks so sent back to YS parts and service. RV thinks a sleeve in the crankcase may have moved blocking preassure delivery. I'll let you know when I get it back.

Looking for a 69" cowl, anyone?
QQ is out of some parts for the 69, there are no more cowls and of course mine was damaged when my new YS110 threw a prop and it attacked the cowling. If anyone knows of or has one to sell please let me know, I can fix the original but I'll have to fiberglass and paint. Thanks

RE: My new YS110 is not happy, breakin, setup?
I got my YS tuned yesterday on the stand with all y'all's input. It ran perfect for three flights and then a deadstick on the fourth. Checked the idle and now it slowly dies instead of holding rpm. So I didn't want to mess with it again due to needing to remove the cowl and time constraints so I tried another flight just avoiding long periods of idle but it deadsticked again so I will pull the cowl and readjust. Looks like this engine is not too forgiving, you got to set it right and also it will change as it breaks in. You can just bump up the idle trim and expect it to keep running if the regulator is passing too much fuel. But I know it can be done, it was starting first flip and idling perfectly for several flights, plus the power is sick for an engine that size. looks pretty fuel efficient too! I had half a tank left after a 8 min flight with just pattern flying, should be able to get 12 min out of the stock tank with a little reserve.

My new YS110 is not happy, breakin, setup?
Had a tough day at the field. My new YS110 is a beast but not a nice one! No problem starting but it kept throwing the prop or backfiring while running and at any speed. I started with a balanced Xoar 16x6 and 30% syth oil heli fuel, YS plug, Hyde soft mount. YS recommended needle settings except from the regulator I didn't touch that.. Awesome power, turned the 16x6 at about 9700 on the ground. I ended up with the main needle at 1 1/4 plus a click and the idle needle at 2 turns out. Any leaner and rpms drop off any richer and it just seemed very rich. Engine ran cool. Lots of preassure in tank. Tons of fuel residue on plane, oil dripping from muffler, fuel dripping from carb. But it doesn't want to idle it slowly dies, transition is good top end great, but it runs very rough at all speeds. But it kept backfiring and stopping with great force and seemed to like throwing its prop too, it did that twice. Basically kind of scary. Yeah its a YS tight as a mother and huge power. But something ain't right. Love to hear what settings you guys have or a link to a setup guide. I put an APC 16x6 on for the next round, the Xoar is toast after smashing it trying to tighten the prop nuts enough and the beating it took flying around on its own.

Prop nut question YS110 and wood prop.
Just stuck a Xoar 16x6 on my YS110. I'm using a Dubro prop nut. Do i need to put a washer between the prop nut and the prop or is the prop nut supposed to go right up against the prop?

RE: New Somenized (TM) 69", Yak-54
Here's a link to an old favorite Foamtana video. By the way the kid flying in this video flies at my field. I asked him to fly my 102" and tell me why I was getting wing rock in harriers. He flew 5 min hardcore down on the deck 3D and lo and behold no wingrock! Luckily he told me the secret... "just stop it with aileron inputs". Two years later I'm still working on that... nuts. http://www.pacifier.com/~dcady/Electrics/Images/video/foamtana.wmv

RE: New Somenized (TM) 69", Yak-54
Great idea! I may try wing nuts, at least it would be easy to try. A real problem for me is how to drill a 1/16" hole in a bolt? FWIW I never had any loosening on my Yak and it's over 2 years old, that is a great system but done with aluminum rod, not a threaded bolt. I haven't flown my 69" yet but beginning with this plane I am going to embrace the SFG's. I got a "Tensor" foamie biplane when they first came out and I never liked the way it flew so I never tried SFG's again. But just last week I bought another foamie from Lee Ulinger of "Foamtana" fame and he recommended his LUM which has SFG's as a way to reach the next level of proficiency. I'm definitely at the point where being able to fly patterns while in a rolling harrier is the next major hurdle for me and I'm beginning to admit I need the help of SFG's as a way to get there!

RE: New Somenized (TM) 69", Yak-54
I just built up to the lip, I used a piece of 10mm balsa to block it up in front of the former and the light ply is glued to the wing tube as well as at the bottom. I made a tongue and groove sandwich of lite ply at the back which the light ply shelf keys into. That tank isn't going anywhere! I cut the screws down to 3/4" but yeah its a pain. I'm going to redo it like on my QQ 102" stock setup. I'll run a fixed post out of the wing bolt hole into the fuse with a hole thru it and use an oring/washer/clip to secure the wing.

RE: New Somenized (TM) 69", Yak-54
Here's some pics of my almost finished Yak. The YS110 needed to be recessed becase with the Hyde mount the regulator was against the cowl lip and I really didn't want to cut into that part of the cowl. I also made a platform and moved the fuel tank back to the wing tube, I was worried the plane would be nose heavy but when I balanced it today without the rudder servo, reciever, and battery but with everything else it was perfect at 6 1/2", man I was happy! I'll be able to move the battery around to nail it when I fly.

RE: Template for a new 69" rudder servo arm?
I love this support site and I'll tell u y. When you said you didn't have a problem with the rudder setup I skimmed thru the 17 page main thread and saw that no one else was either... Then it hit me, one of the 7985 servos was not new, it was in my Fliton that shed a wing inflight, and I own a Hitec HFP-20 servo programmer! You got it: the rudder servo on my 69" had been reprogrammed by me for another plane a year ago. So I reset the servo to factory setings and bingo, I'm getting my 60mm of 3D rudder travel with 125% endpoint setings in the TX. So um, thanks. My bad.

Template for a new 69" rudder servo arm?
Hi Reza, finishing my 69" Yak and while I found a bag of revised surface horns and servo arms for aileron and elevator the rudder appeared unchanged. But after assembly I don't have enough rudder travel for 3D even with 150% in the TX. I need to make a bigger rudder servo arm. Do you have a template for a new 69" rudder servo arm? I know I need to move the balls farther out and so need a new servo arm but I don't know what is more important, the angle or the distance the ball links are offset from the servo center. I'm really happy with the way this plane is turning out! I am using Hitec 7985MG servos, YS110 power, and my new JR 9303 2.4 radio. Should be sweet! You may remember I can't fly my 102" at my field on weekends anymore (no gassers allowed) so this will keep me happy.

RE: QQ Yak 69" quality problems
I gotta chime in Rajul, Somenzini is a fantastic company to deal with, best product, best support, great value, and the planes fly extremely well. When I read on this site about a new landing gear for the 69" one phone call had a new one in my hand. Unfortunate reality is some guy in china is making this model for you, not Quique. Somenzini will stand behind their product. But you are building it right? So you have two issues, the gear and the CF tube. The rest are builders items. The covering job looks like you overheated the overlap trying to get the wrinkle out. Grommets?! Your problems with the manual are unfounded, it is simple stuff. Here is an example of a poor company: Fliton. The instructions were barely adequate , there is no support group like this. I had the wing on my Inspire 60 fail around the tube and depart doing a split "s" after about 10 flights. They have not responded to my emails or calls. I even called a guy who was sponsored by them and he said they have broken contact with him no explanation also. That is a bad company. (with nice planes though!) Most of us on this forum are big fans of Quique and Reza and the office staff. You can do them alot of harm with all of these negative posts so cut it out. Later! Eric
