RE: Ultra Flash - Savox
I use Savox on all my jets now - F16 1/8, ViperJet, F15 and am really happy with them. As Dave says you move the sticks slowly:) With JR radios you can always slow the servo speed programatically if you want. Oh, and I use around 25% expo. Dave

Hi Guys, I wrote a Servo Torque Calculator some time back based on what I found on the web. Cant claim credit for the calculations, just the interface. Windows program - can be downloaded from [link=http://www.plasmanetwork.co.uk/ServoTorque/ServoTorque.zip]Servo Torque Calculator[/link] Hymie

Cermark ViperJet oleos Help
Hi Guys, I have a ViperJet which I really enjoy flying, but the landing gear is on its last legs so to speak. I have emailed round the UK, and emailed Tam, and haven't had a reply on where I can get a replacement set of mains and oleos. Anyone out there got a set, or could point me at some I would really appreciate it. Regards, Dave

Thanks Jeff, I have updated these to "Standard" colors and re-uploaded the application. Most interested to hear back from you on any results you have especially if it helps identify a potential risk. Regards, Hymie

Glad you like it. If it helps just one person choose the right servos then its job done :)

RE: Servo Torque Requirement Calculator
Hi Jeff, Thanks for feedback - my apologies, this was written on a Windows 7 machine and I had used the color set from that. Have reverted to standard colors - could you download again, first uninstalling the version you have via control panel, add/remove programs, then re-install. Have had some interesting feedback this side of the pond, specifically one person who had woefully under-configured servos on his jet, leading to its demise sadly. Please let me know that it works OK:) Regards, Hymie

Servo Torque Requirement Calculator
Hi All, Something I worked on a while back for fellow club members - more from interest than anything else - was a Servo Torque requirement calculator. I claim no credit for the ideas / formulae as these were taken from others ideas on the web - all I have done is bring it together in a Windows program. Hopefully its of use to some of you - feedback is welcome. If interested the download link is [link=http://www.plasmanetwork.co.uk/ServoTorque/ServoTorque.zip]Here[/link]. I cant upload to the forum as its a Zip file. You will need the .NET framework to be installed - this is now a part of windows so shouldnt be an issue, but can be downloaded from Microsoft if required. Please read the discalimer before use :) Regards, Hymie

RE: JetLegend F-16 (1/8) Testflight
Hi Carl, I struggled quite a bit with mine initially, eventually squirted some 'O' lube in the system and now I retain enough air to cycle the gear 3-4 weeks after the last pump. Depends how bad the leak actually is. You could also look at one of the new JetTronic valves - they switch off the air 15 seconds after cycling, which is a nice safety net :) I also use a gear failsafe in all my air up/down models - worth it. The UK dealer - zedjet.com - should be able to help too. Good luck, Dave

RE: Tank repair advice please
Great idea regarding the vacuum. Put some tygon on and sucked till the tank just started to move inwards, then clamped the pipes. Tank still indented slightly, so looks like the hole has gone. Still cant believe how lucky i was to see that before startup. Thanks again guys.

RE: Tank repair advice please
Wow Thanks so much for the info guys - excellent posts. Have bandaged the whole way round and left overnight. Will sand down tomorrow and do another coat - I usually use some glass powder in the resin as that fills and gives great strength. Will definitely take it in the bath with me and see if I can produce bubbles - from the tank that is. Thanks again guys :) Dave

RE: Tank repair advice please
Thanks Marcs, Was worried that epoxy resin would soften on contact with fuel. Really lucky escape today - my ViperJet would have been toast if I hadnt glanced inside...... Annoyed at the problem costing me a days flying, but damn lucky to have got away with it - 5 mm deep fuel in the fuselage under the turbine... Dave

Tank repair advice please
Had a tank develop a minor leak along the seam - really lucky I didnt start up the turbine or would have been BBQ time! My question is, assming I repair the tank, would a glass fiber bandage round the middle (where the split is) do the job. I am using epoxy resin - is that impervious to paraffin / Jet A1, or do I need to use polyester resin? Or buy a new tank? Thanks, Dave

RE: Cermark Viper Jet Redeux
Hi Steve, Didnt have any problems with the tube. Did find it a real squeeze to getthe servoes in the wings and stab - used full size ones in the wings, and Hi-text 6245 (I think they are) in the stab. Needed quite a bit of nose weight, so could have moved the turbine forward a bit. Yes, 160 is huge, but its all I have other than a 70. Found on the 160 that it flew happily below half throttle. Came out a bit heavy in my opinion - 26.5 pounds dry. Also found that space was a bit short despite thre big cockpit area, so plan carefully. Use Multiplex plugs for the wing servo wires - less aggro. Used a new JetTronics gear valve - absolutely great, as they shut themselves down after 15 seconds s- so less worries about leaks :) Will post any other info if I think of it. And no - no trip on Friday for me - have to keep toiling away so I can buy jet fuel :( Dave

RE: Cermark Viper Jet Redeux
Difficult one to answer - I think you could buy it from a dealer att that price. I got really lucky - paid 600 for airframe incl retracts and 7 servoes. I would guess 8-1100 is what I would expect to pay. Always the option of an F15 if you are getting into jets - they are great. But to answer your question "is it a good jet" I would (after only the test flight) have to say yes, definitely :)

RE: Cermark Viper Jet Redeux
Flew mine yesterday - P160 (I know, but i dont have a 120 :) Take off roll very short, rotation hardly noticeable. Very smooth. Flap - have set up crow - about 5mm up on the ailerons at full flap, and hardly any pitch change. Landed a bit fast so bounced and got airborne, but no bad vices it seems. Love this jet :) One comment - on the tail feathers - a bit of silicone sealant between the fin / stabs and the fuse before you bolt them in stops any wobble and helps with flutter. Have fun guys - lovely jet!

RE: Avonds F15 Conversion
Just been looking at the wings again - they are soooooo thin where the servo would go - maybe I will surrender on this one - or perhaps put flaps only. I have been testing Savox servos in my F16 (Jet Legend 1/8) and older F15 - the 20KG ones have amazing power and the price is great too. Havent used them long enough to form an opinion but as I will be using them as tailerons lets hope they meet expectations.... Thanks for the info and advice guys :) Regards, Dave

RE: Avonds F15 Conversion
I could do - or even set that up as an alternate flight mix. I guess my main concern is that the wing servoes either dont have the power, or worse develop flutter. I just havent ever used "wing" servoes like the 125, so really dont know what to expect. As the ailerons and flaps would be quite small I am guessing/hoping that the 125 MGs could be OK. Regards, Dave

Do you think even the HS125 MG (Metal gears) wouldnt handle the job. Fairly small ailerons, and I dont tend to fly too fast.... Regards, Dave

RE: Avonds F15 Conversion
Many thanks Brian. I have an F15 with tailerons (and a P160!) but sometimes would like the comfort of knowingthat if one servo dies the other one wont take you to the scene of the accident. So thinking along those lines for the second one which I am starting to build. Regards, Dave

Avonds F15 Conversion
Hi, I have an older Avonds F15 DF model that I am converting to turbine. I also want to convert it to Aileron / Flaps, but the wings outboard are really thin. Do you think HS125 servos are up to the job - or is there an alternative. Advice would be really welcome. Regards, Dave
