RE: what is faster
The faster one is the one you can drive without crashing. The 9T brushless may make the TT01 difficult to drive with a high level of control. If you're zipping across a parking lot or up and down the street, the 9T is faster. If you're talking lap times on the track, the 13 is probably the correct choice.

RE: Vehicle with the most hop ups
Are you asking what rc car/truck has the most hop-up parts available to modify your vehicle? If so, the simple answer is the Traxxas T-Maxx. It may not be the best vehicle, but has an almost infinite number of upgrade parts available.

RE: How much is my truck worth?
A southern truck is worth a lot more than one from a northern state. The body is much nicer and moving parts (suspension bushings, ball joints, etc) in better condition as it hasn't seen salted or sand spread roads in the winter. In Michigan, the truck would be a basket case and worth upwards of $1000. Where you're at, it should fetch $3500 or so.

RE: help me widen my stampede!
Personally, I think the chassis width is very much to scale with it's length for an off-road trail rig.

RE: 1/5 scale pede...body pics now!
If you are going to move the suspension arm mounts further from the center of the chassis and extending tie rods for the rest, be prepared for some negative consequences. Severe camber swing from positive to negative in suspension travel, front toe increase as suspension compresses, and horrific steering implications - ackerman changes with suspension travel. Oh the horror!

RE: Everyone's Cheating
Brushless motors are not immune to cheating at the club level. I know of several folks that run 17.5 badger cans that are not 17.5, but are really 13.5 (or 10.5 in the 13.5 class). They set their end point adjustment on the throttle to match top end but pull harder out of the corners. I've even seen voltage step-up converters to boost voltage from 7.4 to around 9.

RE: What the most you ever spent in one visit to the shop?
My biggest hobby shop bill was a hair over $5,400. That was a fun visit. 2 Kyosho MP-5s (primary and backup car), 3 Rossi gold head engine (ceramic coated piston) and pipes, FG on-road, and miscellaneous parts.

RE: RC Racing Is All Wrong?
I have been racing for over 2 decades myself and I truly like the current format. My local track organizes qualifying rounds based on historical finish positions so the "fast guys" run the same qualifying heats and do not end up running over slower/less experienced racers. As skill level increases, you move up in qualifying groups and which main you end up qualifying for. I do not like "racing" with novice drivers that cannot keep pace for a couple reasons. First (and least important), their actions on the track are not very predictable at times and can wreck you when trying to complete a clean pass (through inexperience, not intentional actions). I tend to race with a primary car, backup, and parts car, so I don't sweat racing incidents as much as some others do. The primary reason I don't like racing with novice drivers is lapping the same driver over and over again (and know they are not having fun getting their backside handed to them). Qualifying allows the novice drivers to get to compete in a main where they have a shot at placing or winning. I also race large scale model boats and the race format is quite different than with cars. A typical race is either a one or two day event. For a 1 day race, there are 3 to 4 rounds of heats run for each class. Who you race with changes each round. Points are awarded for finishing position each round. Points from each round are tallied to determine your finishing position. While you are racing each round, you don't really know your position in the standings until a minimum of 10 minutes after the last heat is finished.

RE: I hate people
The "magic button" makes it more "real" race MX if you ask me. Drop it and stall during a heat - good luck firing a hot four stroke when you're tired. However, pull the decompression lever and push the electric start button and you're back in the action (why tire yourself more in the heat of battle if you don't have to). The magic button is a game changer if you ask me. Soon they will all have one. And yes, the brembo brakes are incredible. But not as great as the factory hydraulic clutch (ahead of the pack on both these items too).

RE: I hate people
Details... Friday Borrowed a co-workers truck on Friday and left at noon to pick-up the new bikes. Drove 3 hours to the only KTM dealership in Texas that had 2 for sale when I called around (thank you Munn Racing!). Put the $17K on my credit card for the 2 bikes (received a wire transfer from my friend for the purchase price of his bike and pre-loaded my card to cover the $17K price) - gotta love collecting points. Drove back and stored them in an undisclosed, secure location. Saturday Bikes found listed on craigslist (third time found them on craigslist - third different phone number) Had a friend call to "buy" the bikes and arrange a meeting. Police were called and would be alerted if they were in fact our motorcycles. Friend and his uncle drove to see the bikes. Identified by description and VIN. Called the Police officer handling our case again. Instructed to take them if they are yours. So they were loaded up and brought back. I have a copy of the individuals hand written "bill of sale" with the seller's (AKA thief's) name, address, drivers licence number, plate number, and date of birth. This isn't over [>:]. Time to go after them for damages caused.

RE: I hate people
Picked up the new KTM 450 SX-F bikes on Friday. Man are they nice (for the price, they should be). On Saturday, the stolen bikes were recovered. Isn't that always the way. Now I have to find a buyer for the 2010 Honda.

RE: Can you fix a ripped tire?
When I was racing 1/10 electric 4wd, I used to make my own narrow front bow ties by cutting the center out of the tires and using thick ca to bond the remaining halves together. The tire would wear out before the glue would give.

Insuring it wasn't an option for me. My registration form still hasn't come in the mail. That is how new the bike was (I suppose still is). Without a valid registration to go with the title...no policy. No sense waiting for it to come now...

RE: I hate people
With KTM (my first choice) being the bike of the year, the 2012 models are sold out in Texas (called around yesterday afternoon to get the bad news). I can pay to be put on a waiting list and hope (full retail) that I can get one on a later shipment this year with no guarantees I will get one or look for something else.

RE: I hate people
There are two things you should never buy used. Motocross bikes and co... The sole purpose of a dirt bike is ride the snot out of it. A used bike will always come with issues and worries (was the air filter cleaned/changed religously or did it suck in dirt, oil change frequency and quality, valve adjustment requirements ignored, proper octane, etc.)

RE: I hate people
As foxy said, I'm screwed. My home owners insurance won't cover it (my house is in Canada, I am working in Texas and bought the bike down here - not registered in Canada). My renters insurance only covers items in my apartment. The trailer was only $700 (3 track motocross trailer). No need to insure it (premium + deductible exceeds trailer cost). Friend's home owner's does not cover theft of a visitor's property.

My 2010 Honda CRF450R and trailer (along with a friend's 2009 Suzuki 450F) were stolen Monday night. Doubt they will be recovered. And I just ordered new riding gear on-line too. This sucks. Now I have to decide what to buy next...KTM...Honda...Kawasaki...

RE: Setup and motor mount for aeromarine chaos
I ended up going with the Hanson cradle style engine mount. I had to mill the cross brace in front of the pull-start to get the motor as far forward as I wanted (above post picture 5, not 3) and cut out the support between the stringers. With the exhaust port angled slightly downward on the M&D cast motor, a standard 90 degree header would have required significant cutting of the deck. Where Propcircles had to knotch the hatch lip(?) on the hull, with the exhaust angle on the cast motor, the center of the header would have been flush with the top deck. The header needed to go up and back. I only discovered this after mounting the engine in the hull. Not willing to cut up the hull, I had to place another order with hanson to get their 1" offset and 1" rise headers (bought 2 since I have 2 cast motors). Too bad I didn't know this when I ordered the engine mount (that's what I get for not doing a complete mock-up). I tossed it in the water for the first time on Sunday morning with a rather generic setup (bottom of strut 1" below hull, neutral angle) and was hauling the mail until the number 2 bouy jumped in my way (it got what it deserved). GPS claimed a top speed of 67mph, but those numbers mean very little. I need to get my radar gun on it all the way around the course to see how much speed is scrubbed in the turns and how soon on the straight I am back up to speed. All I know is it was outpacing the whiplash. I haven't trimmed the rudder yet (still full length) or finetuned prop or strut to steal a few more mph, but it is too stable in the water to want to mess with the lucky guess setup! I would post pics but the I didn't think to take any while I was home for the long weekend (work 1500 miles from home). I will definitely take (and post) some photos in two weeks when I am home next.

RE: Apartments suck!
Yes, I race my slash. My current diff setup is 7k front, 5k rear, and 30k center. I get better turn-in with the looser diffs but you have to peddle the throttle a bit out of the corners to prevent excess unloading of the center diff.

RE: Apartments suck!
I have a 1300 sqft apartment that I share with a co-worker, but there's still nowhere to leave a "work in progress" for a day or two. I may just have to bring my slash 4x4 diffs with me when i fly home this weekend so I can do them right. But i still have to finish building 3 gas boats for mid-June. Argh!
