RE: Silly question about tissue paper covering
Or you could apply the covering by another method. Here is what I do and it seems to work fairly well. First lay the tissue over the area you are going to cover and cut it about 1/2" oversize. Apply glue via a gluestick to the balsa frame and then lay the tissue covering over it. Work out any wrinkles and make sure that the tissue is bonded to the balsa frame. Then take a razor blade and trim the tissue to the correct size. When the glue has cured take a hairspray bottle filled with water and lightly mist the tissue. When the water dries the tissue will become tight. Then take a 50/50 mix of nitrate dope and thinner and paint 2 - 3 coats over the tissue. Once the dope cures you should have a nice wrinkle free surface. Sometimes I will take a 400 grit sandpaper and lightly sand the surface after each coat of dope has cured. There are lots of different methods for applying tissue covering. I have never been able to get satisfactory results with using only dope and thinner while covering with tissue. Though I can make it work quite well when covering with Silk-span. Go figure.

. Not a bad price if it is truly what this engine needs to run like it should. Thoughts? iAlex

RE: TF Contender 60 build thread.
Here is my Contender that I completed several years ago. Powered by a Jett .46, which is more than enough for this aircraft. The upturned wingtips apparently help with the roll-coupling though I haven't played around enough with it to determine how much of an affect they really have.

RE: Club JETT
For those that are running JETT engines outside of the US, what nitro percentage do you run? If you run 0% how well do the engines work for you? I've always run 15% in my .46 though I've always wondered how well it would perform on FAI fuel.

blw, feel free to be the keeper of the numbers. Kmot, what are the details on the black engine casing? It's certainly not something that I am familiar with.

Club JETT
With all the other engine clubs right now I figure it's only fair that JETT also have a club. So if you enjoy flying the top notch American made engine post your experiences here. My JETT is a 10 year old .46 currently powering a Top Flight Contender. Takeoffs are easily accomplished at half throttle.

RE: Buy American R/C engines
Has anyone compared the performance of the K&B screaming 48 side by side to the O.S. AX .46? The MECOA price and the Tower price of the two engines are the same these days at just under $150. I have though about purchasing the 48 but I see a Fox 45 in my future after a trade in of a tired old fox 40 I purchased at an auction years ago.

RE: Kaos 25 Build (Full Plans Added)
How well do you think this plane would fly with the K&B Sportster .20? I have one that needs an airframe and the KAOS seems like a good fit.

RE: How is the OS AX better than the FX line?
I just looked at towers prices on the AX line. The .65 is $209 and the .46 is $149. At these prices I think more and more people will be seeking alternatives.

JETT .46 and FAI Fuel?
I've been floating the idea of mixing my own fuel and going the 0% Nitro route. My current setup is a Sport Jett .46 running with 15% Powermaster fuel. Ground RPM with a 10x6 APC is 16K. Plug is a K&B 1L. If I do change the fuel to 0% what changes should I make to the engine? Do I drop to a 9x7 and try to keep the RPM's around 16K. Also should I remove the two aluminum shims that are already installed on the engine? Thoughts?

RE: Best kit ever?
My favorite kit thus far is the Top Flite Contender. The wood was not the best quality for the fuselage, but everything went together smoothly. I enjoyed the balsa shaping that the kit required. Of course the plane flies great and was worth all the hours in the garage.

RE: show us your gliders
ORIGINAL: Alex.schweig How much do they go for? It looks like a nice plane...
I'm not sure the current cost of a new aircraft. The club I fly with bought ours used for 25K back in 2000. With the $ to Euro conversion being as bad as it is I would guess the cost of a new L-23 is at least 60-70K.

O-ring for QRC .049
Seen in the picture below is the first glow engine I've owned. I received it for my birthday in 1988. The problem with it is that the O-ring between the fuel tank and the back plate is now useless. Does anyone know the correct size for a replacement and also a supplier? Thanks. Alex

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***
Does anybody know what is going on with Tower Hobbies and Super Tiger? I've been looking at buying a GS-40 for the last couple of months now. On Tower Hobbies web site the stock status was given as late Feb, then Late March, and now it's late April. I would really like to give this engine a try but that won't happen if I can't buy it.

RE: Trouble w/OS 60FP
Your problem might be related to your fuel. While running some old fuel I picked up from a friend I couldn't get my .60 FP to run without the glow driver. I changed over to some new fuel and the engine ran fine with no problems. Another thought would be to lean it out a little bit before removing the glow driver. With my engine the little extra speed and heat helps to keep it running.

RE: Full scale flyers....roll call.
Private Pilot Glider. About 90 hours of flight time so far. Been flying for almost 3 years now. Longest soaring flight has been a little bit over 4 hours, and I have reached a max altitude of 14,000 feet while thermalling. Been involved in Radio Control for close to 15 years.

RE: Use entire wing as aileron?
There was a sailplane design featured in Model Aviation around the 1990-1991 timeframe that uses this same idea. It had wingerons and then flaps as well. Unfortunatly I don't remember the name or the issue it came out in. I would look it up but unfortunatly that issue is in a box in my parents attic. Maybe someone has access to issues from that time and can come up with more specific information.
