I was just going to order this plane and got the end of the checkout and saw that shipping cost is$81.04 (UPS) from their USA Warehouse. That is ridiculous! I guess I won't add this plane to my hangar.

RE: Stinson Reliant
In general, it does look nice. However, for scale appearance, the cowl is a little small and the landing gear is too big. For a semi-scale plane it appears to be ok. I would like to hear from someone who actually has the plane to find out more on how it flies and the quality of the model.

RE: Twin motor issues/Questions
ORIGINAL: Glacier Girl #1 is a maybe. You forgot differences also in props. You could have two shall we say mismatched props. Same mfg and sizes but they could be slightly different. This could also account for your watt reading differences. Swap props and see if the watt readings follow the props or if they change. #2 nope, see #1 #3 if the motors and esc's can handle the said 940 watts no harm to them, but again if they are matched systems you will have one side developing more power. It will cause a slight yaw condition, and you should be able to hear a difference in the air. Hard to explain, till you hear one, but the sound of a pair of out of sync motors or engines can be discerned. Dependent on the bird, it may be very minor as to a slight trim issue on rudder, or even no real problem. Only other condition I can think of would be how they are wired up, as one is pulling more power from the pack(s) The esc's will sense the voltage dropping and very possibly shut down one motor before the other as the pack runs low on it. Some birds don't like flying on one motor when they were built to fly on two.
I guess I should put in the caveat that I assumed matching propellers. Thanks for your reply and answers. With your answers and other research and answers to these questions from other forums, I have made the following summaries: 1. All components of the power system can effect the power input power to the system (Batteries, ESCs, Motors, wires, power connectors and Propellers). Matching manufacturers, models and sizes can minimize differences in twin power systems. 2. In a perfect world, equal power input should result in equal RPMs (thrust) from each twin power system. 3. The most important factor in twin systems with respect to flight characteristics is equal thrust output (assuming all components can function properly with differences in power input to both sides). 4. Inequalities as much as 25% in RPMs will result in only minor yaw issues in most models. 5. In most cases, small inequalities in twin power systems can be ignored. The major exception being two completely separate systems where voltage cutoff on one side may result in a motor shutdown in flight. There are certainly many circumstances where equal power and thrust should be the goal but, in general, it is not a big issue that should result in grounding the plane.

Just spoke with the salesman at Hobby People and he confirmed that they will get them in mid October and the EP version will sell for $379.99. That is a little high for by pocket book so I will move on to building my Top Notch kit.
ORIGINAL: handyman 220 Steve This is the large version, not the EP. No, that price did not include shipping from the UK. That was rather expensive itself around $250 US dollars. [:o] I really had to decide how bad I wanted the airplane, shipping alone would buy a kit in the US. I can't justify the purchase price other than I really love the plane! [:D]
Is there an electric version of this model. I have the TopNotch kit. However I would be interested in an ARF about that size. No foam model.
ORIGINAL: Kostas1 Nicee ! Could you please post a picture of the servo/Rx/battery compartment ?
The Battery/Servo compartment of this plane is very large and can accommodate big batteries. I use a 3S 3300mah or a 3S 4400mah Turnigy battery and either one fits easily into the battery tray. The hatch over the battery compartment provides easy access for removing the battery without removing the wing. I used a HS-65MG servo for the nose wheel as it takes a beating on our grass field. I fabricated the receiver box from scrap balsa (my trademark).
ORIGINAL: Kostas1 OMG she looks awsome !!! When is the maiden ? a possible video maybe ? [X(]
I did the maiden several weeks ago. I generally do maidens when there are very few people around (spectator protection, settle my nerves and eliminate embarrassment if the plane does not fly well). As such, I do not have any videos. She flew very gentle, slow, scale like, no bad habits and was easy on the battery consumption (12 minutes on a 3300mah pack). In reality, this could be used as a trainer.

RE: Twin Otter Stab Mod
ORIGINAL: MinnFlyer I'm not exactly sure what you're thinking of doing. If the stab is very thin, you won't have room for a 1/4'' tube. I would remove the LE, drill a horizontal hole throught the vertical fin and replace the LE with a CF tube the same diameter as the thickness of the stab (If the stab is 1/4'' thick, use a 1/4'' tube) then use filler to get the shape back and re-cover with black (The black may have to extend slightly further aft than it does now to hide the work)
That is a better idea than what I had. I was just going to place the tube along the bottom on the horizontal stab just behind the leading edge and epoxy it in place. thanks for the GREAT idea....

RE: VMAR Twin Otter
Yes the covering is printed. They have some patented method of a two layer covering where the printed layer is covered with a clear layer. This worked well on the Yellow Canadian Rescue scheme but was very bad on the British Airways white version. The white was badly discolored and the seams were very visible when there was more than one layer of covering. Here are a few photos of the finished model at the flying field.

RE: VMAR Twin Otter
Thanks for the reply. I have already cut out some aileron stock that can serve the same function as your suggested triangle stock. I did exactly what you said about tapering the leading edge. I stopped there and was going to start the custom fit sanding process to mate the supports to the vertical stab. If I use them, I will just spray paint them to match the yellow covering on the plane. These will certainly help with the connection to the vertical stab, but it will not strengthen the remainder of the stab. That is why I was thinking of using the carbon fiber tube. Thanks again for you reply....

RE: Cheap Plastic Cowls
Thanks a bunch folks. I found a small Fiberglass Repair Kit at Walmart for around $12.00. Home depot on had large quantities (large sheets of heavy fiberglass and 1/2 gallon resin). I'll get started on the repairs/reinforcemenst soon. I know this will cure the problem of the flimsy plastic cowls. this may turn this ARF into something enjoyable!

Cheap Plastic Cowls
I just purchased a twin Otter from VMAR. It is a very poorly constructed ARF - bad wood, parts don't fit, covering cheap, and cheap plastic parts. The cowl for this ARF is paper thin like you would find on dime store toys. The cowls arrived damaged and I cannot get replacements. Is there any way to repair these cheap plastic cowls other than reconstructing them out of fiberglass? Thanks, Vic
