RE: District 5 Champ race August 24-26 in Muncie
UPDATE There is another event going on at the Muncie site and some of them use the old Frequencies. We will have to work with them to get this in order. Here is what I know at this point. Most of the frequencies should be safe. I have contacted the C/D of the Dawn Patrol event that is going on at the same time as our race. If you have alternate crystal sets you can bring with you it would be a big help. If any of the 2.4 guys with crystal sets and modules for all the radios could bring these with them it might be a good thing. 52 was the only one he could remember is one they use. We need to work together on this so no one is left out. We always have options. The C/D of the other event is going to check with the 40 or so he has e-mail for to see how this will shake out. I will let you know what is going on. Stay tuned. Tom

RE: District 5 Champ race August 24-26 in Muncie
Hi all, This race is shaping up very well. 26 and counting pre-registered. This is also refered to as the CAPS Classic. The racing should be very fast. Go to WWW.CAPSracing.com to see who's registered. About 2 weeks later is the Bowie Md. race for Q-500 only and it looks like it will be well attended . Next on the list is the Gold Cup in North Carolina at the end of September and in Mid October the Mulberry Florida SEMPRA race. There are a good number of races so keep them flying. This is good news for Racing in general. Really good to see so much positive activity around the country. Keep it going. Tom

RE: Cliff Telford Memorial Scholarship Fund
For those of you who were not at the 2012 NATS for the drawing of the winner of ther RTF Ninja, Gary Schmidt was the lucky winner. More importantly the members of the MNPRA both bought raffle tickets, all 200, donated to the fund generously along with the left over funds from the BBQ on Wed. night, we raised a total of $4676.00. I am very proud to be a part of such a wonderful group of pretty cool and talented guys and girls. Sally O'brien and Taryn Seaholm took us over the mark by selling the remaining tickets. You are all winners because of this. I found out a little bit more about this fund. Once a year a student, who qualifies, receives a $5000.00 scholarship paid directly to the school they would attend. This is a perpetual fund and continues to support our future leaders. All that being said, shortly after this presentation to Retireing NATS Director Ron Morgan and his Wife Jane along with Bob Brown and Dave Matthewson, an anonymous doner matched our efforts. That brought the total to $9352.00. WOW!! There is a youtube video of the ceremony and I will post later. A second presentation will take place in Florida where Nancy Telford lives. She is recovering from a fall at the moment so be thinking of her. A BIG THANKS to all of you for making this a successful effort. There is also more info on the NATS News portion of the AMA site at http://www.modelaircraft.org/files/072012.pdf Dennis, Scott, Pete and Me.

RE: Cliff Telford Memorial Scholarship Fund
For the few racers not going to the NATS this year you will need to get your raffle tickets befor the start of the NATS. You can purchase them from Travis Flynn in California, Joe Tropea to the east, Dennis O'Brien in the florida region, Tray Witte in the Carolinas. We are only selling 200 tickets. We will hold the drawing and special presentation on Wednesday Night at the cook out of the funds to AMA in Cliff and Nancy's Honor. We will have the remaining tickets for sale at Muncie. If you really get desperate for a ticket call me and I will include you but you have to pay or I will send the goons after you. Great Cause, Great company and a great time will be had by all. And someone will have a brand New Ninja ready to fuel up and fly. Tom, Scott, Pete and Dennis123READY TURNiamtom Super Contributor

Bring your good stuff. Lots of tough competition. Check out who will be comng. 24 signed up already and I know of a few more.. If you have any questions or need the gate combination call my cell at 513-604-6464 I plan to be at the field aroiund 10:00 am. for set up. The field will be open when someone shows up and can open the gate. If you need directions to the field go to www.gcrcc.net . There you will find the Address, GPS coorinates and a map. Racing Sticker, Application and Removal
Hi all, Some of us have been doing this for a couple of years now and it has to do with the application and removal of the racing stickers we use. If you apply some wax to your wing befor you apply the sticker it will stick on very well and be very easy to remove when the race is over. I use McGuires wax and I think any wax that will hase will work the same. Just apply to the surface and let it dry to a hase, apply the sticker without buffing and I garrantee it will come right off. No need for Brake clean, Lighter fluid or heat gun. This works on Film covering Painted surfaces and Vinyl deco as well. Try this next time and you will no longer cuss the dread sticker removal. Tom

Bennie Martin doing well after surgery
Latest word on our friend and longtime racer Ben Martin, Ben is doing very well after his quadruple bypass this morning. His heart is working on it’s own already. So, look out for Ben this year as he can now see 20/20. Last year he was considerd legally blind with the cataracts. Corrective surgery and implant lenses and a new lease on life, he will be tough this year. I am told he will be recovered enough to race at Muncie in May.WOW!! Tom123READY TURN

Hi all, Just a not of progress. We sold approximately 50 tickets at Phoenix. I am encouraged and would like to see 200 sold before the drawing. I will not print more than that. This is a way for the Pylon community to speak to AMA and our up and coming youth. Please buy a ticket or 2. It really is for a good cause. Keep racin and LOVIN IT! Cliff Telford Memorial Scholarship Fund
Hi All, I am adding a new twist to collecting money for the Scholarship fund this year. Yes, Sally O'Brien and Taryn Seaholm will still be comming around for the pinch but they will be selling raffle tickets for a RTF Ninja 426 plane. CMADRacing.com is donating the plane, Performance Model Products , the Power plant and Pete Bergstrom a Brand new, latest and greatest DX-7 Radio with Life batteries and quality racing servos. Tickets will be $20.00 each. I will be bring some tickets to the Phoenix race for pre-sale and the drawing will be at the 2012 NATS. You all have been most generous in the past and we have been successful in presenting over $1000 each year for some time now. This is a way to give back a bit and hopfully take this to the next level. At Phoenix you can see myself,Tom Scott or Scott Causey for tickets. If you can't make it, contact either of us for more info. or additional tickets. This plane will be fully ready to fly and prepared by me. I look forward to seeing all of you this year. RE: natural wood color filet
The answer to your question is use epoxy mixed with West systems #404 Faring filler. It is almost exactly the same color you are looking for and blends in very well. Also extremely light weight ans very easy to sand. Use it for potting the wing as well. Tom Sorry I misspoke about the product #. It is #410 This stuff works very well even in faster epoxys. You Are Here: Home » Products » The 105 System » Fillers » 410 Microlight™ 410 Microlight™Filler Selection Guide Filler Buying Guide 403 Microfibers 404 High-Density Filler 405 Filleting Blend 406 Colloidal Silica 407 Low-Density Filler 410 Microlight 410 Microlight™ is the ideal low-density filler for creating a light, easily-worked fairing compound especially suited for fairing large areas. Microlight mixes with greater ease than 407 Low-Density filler or microballoons and is approximately 30% easier to sand. It feathers to a fine edge and is also more economical for large fairing jobs. Not recommended under dark paint or other surfaces subject to high temperatures. Cures to a tan color.

RE: P_51 Mustang crashes into crowds at Reno
I will only offer this as an opinion and to be sure the experts will trump anything any of us say so here goes. GG just passed the Rare Bare on the back straight. approaching pylon 8 where at a high rate of speed and working hard to avoid the dead line he was already in a high G turn. Still following both Strega and Voodoo, also moving very fast caused extreme wake turbulance,(Bad Air). I think this caused the roll to the left and rapid correction. At this point possibly the trim tab may have fluttered and became ineffective and caused GG to pull up dramatically. Reportedly no change in power setting was evident. At the initial pitch up Jimmy was unconcious and the rest is history. No pilot shown in the cockpit from the side and the back of his helmet visible from the inverted photo. The plane went in naturally without control input from the initial pitch up to the end. I was sitting less than 300 ft. away on the same row of the impact. As there is history in the Voodoo incedent years ago this seems very possible. There are other observations to consider aerodynamically and surely will play a part in ths terrible accident. I have been going for the past 26 years and never once felt in danger any more than any other motor sport. This was a one in a million result to an unfortunate accident. If the races continue next year most of my group of 24 will happily return. Tom
