RE: Fly Eagle F-14 Build
Its a Joes 2006 Scott. I built it myself but I want to upgrade to a Joes 4x4 which is all aluminum extrusion and a lot more solid. This one runs good though, just want something bigger and faster. I will need more cutting space for when I do parts for the A-6. Here is a video of me cutting the new turbine mounts for the F-14 (Crappy vid cause was done on iPhone):

RE: Fly Eagle F-14 Build
Dantley, based on what Lowell is saying the batteries will need to be in the nose. Thats pretty much the only place for them ;-) Scott, I bought the G-10 from Mcmaster in 12x12 and 12x24 sheets and varying thicknesses and cut them on my CNC machine with a diamond-cut bit from Precise Bits. Works very well and produces a nice clean cut. The markings are done with a 60 degree engraving bit.

RE: Fly Eagle F-14 Build
More progress being made. I got a lot done this weekend in terms of the fit out. Crunch time now since only a couple weeks left until Best in the West. Below are some pics of the weekends progress, not all but some. I am trying to spend all my free time on building and not taking pics. Rudder linkages were a pain but they are done!!

Fender you can always drill and tap a hole closer to the servo center if you need to.

RE: Current FEJ 1/7.5 F-14 owners I have a small question
I dont think it will be an issue since you are going to run tailerons you will need quite a bit of throw. I am using the inner most holes on the SWB arms and it is about the same distance as the elevator horns. The SWB horns are not in the pic below, these were used for mockup, but still the same distance from center.

Not on the elevators Dantley, we are using the 2 1/2" arms with dual links. The 1" arms are on the flaps.

If it s a newer F-14 (honeycomb) then I would not bother cutting it open.

RE: Fly Eagle F-14 Build
The verticals on Dantleys plane looked like they had blocks but I will confirm. I dont think his wings need to be cut open as I can see considerable carbon fiber around the pivot point. I dont think you should have to cut yours open Raf, it is a newer version.

RE: Fly Eagle F-14 Build
So I was working on the F-14 last night installing and setting up the verticals. I noticed that there was quite a bit of play in the bottom part of the rudder. The bas would wiggle quite a bit back and forth so I decided to take the plunge and cut the rudder loose. Man am I glad I did. The top 2 hinges were glued in fine but the bottom hinge that was in the rudder came right out. It had some glue on it but not much. All the hinges glued into the vertical were holding fine but that one made so much play there would have been some flutter for sure. So I am going to re-hinge the verticals and add some brass tubing on the bottome hinge for some extra support. Check your hinges people.

RE: Fly Eagle F-14 Build
Got a little garage time this weekend and started on some linkages for the wing. Of course it could not go smoothly and there are no balsa blocks in the flap to mount the horns too. Also the horns supplied have a hole that is too big for a standard clevis so I went to the CNC and cut out some new ones. For the horn blocks all I basically did was cut some 1/16th balas into about 3/4" wide strips and slid them into the slot cut for the horn and glued them in layers one after the other to build up a block. Then I just cut the slot and got ready to glue in the horn.

RE: Looking for front landing gear (or just pin), SM 1/8 f-16
To remove it you could try center drilling the pin then threading the hole and screwing in a bolt, then heat the strut and extract the sheared pin.

P-140RX Twin setup
I have searched quite a few pages in this forum and cant find a topic about twin setup so I am hoping this will be helpful for others. I have gone through the manual and JetCat does not have anything in it about twin operation, which I thought was a little interseting. I am wondering what you guys think the best way is or at least the options. I think the obvious way would be to learn RC on the ECU's seperately and then of course "Y" the channels together and then start each turbine via the GSU. I would like to know if there is an autostart option and if it is simple. Thanks!

RE: Fly Eagle F-14 Build
Ok, I made some progress. I got the reverse function working. Turns out the diode near the motor was soldered on backwards. Diodes only work in one direction so this explains why the reverse function was not working, no power. On to the next problem. The other problem I am still having is that the micro switches are working backwards. So when the carriage is moving in one direction the micro switch that works is the switch that its moving away from and not the one its going to. So I need to figure out how to switch those. Not sure if it is the wiring or something else but I think the wiring is the issue.

RE: Fly Eagle F-14 Build
I dont know if there is a new one Fender but I do know some guys have upgraded or swapped theirs out because they did not like the fact that you had to return the switch to center before going into reverse.

RE: Fly Eagle F-14 Build
FIXED IT!!! I am sure it is obvious to some but sometimes the obvious escapes me, well I guess it escapes me a lot. So the solution was rather simple. Reverse the motor wires!!!! This fixed the problem. Now the proper sitches stop the carriage in the right direction. Still though, one Diode was backwards and the motor wires were backwards, oh well. Hopefully if someone has the same problem they can look here and get it sorted.

RE: Fly Eagle F-14 Build
Just noticed something else, I was reading through the Tamiya manual again and it says specifically in the manual that you are not supposed to use any schottky diodes and there are clearly 2 diodes in the wiring for the swing wing harness. This doesn't make me feel good so I think a new controller is in order. Thats a bummer.

RE: Fly Eagle F-14 Build
Hey Wap or Fender, can either one of you take a pic of your speed controllers for your swing wing mechanisms and post them here so I can see if you got something different than us? I am not convinced that we have a speed controller thats doable, but I could be wrong.
