RE: s/m 1/6 f16 in my hot little hands!

RE: s/m 1/6 f16 in my hot little hands!
Darn, guys - you read me like an open book!![:D] But hey, I don't need an excuse, I'll just go ahead and order one! [:)] Craig, I love the new gear, the old one was a lot of trouble to set up, but I finally got it adjusted right and it could take a lot of beating. The only annoying thing about the new one is that it doesn't lock in the down position, so as the air slowly leaks out of the sytem (in a few days), the gear may collapse. I know Staale drilled a small hole in each leg and stuck a pin through it, I usually store my plane with a support under it and just fill up the air for transportation. Speaking of transport, here in Norway you can buy a car specifically for transport, then you only get the front seats and right behind your back you have a metal grid or wall. My Chevrolet Tahoe has the metal mesh or grid. As a transporter with 2 seats only, it cost almost $90.000!!! With all 5 seats, it costs around $200.000!!!![:@] I have no plans to change my car, both because of the insane price level AND because I have the only one in Norway with an official written permit to cut a hole in the metal mesh "for the single purpose of transporting a model airplane"!! For this reason, I can't buy a bigger F-16 - the SM 1:6 fits exactly inside the car with stabs and rudder attached - so, it's gonna be another Skymaster!!![:D]

RE: s/m 1/6 f16 in my hot little hands!
Hi guys! I think there might be a G2 F-16 in my near future, both my F-16's so far have had the 555 Aviano markings and the typical light grey/dark grey US scheme. I am thinking about one in Norwegian livery since we still have them here, what do you guys think? (Yes, I know it's a bit boring, but it's Norwegian..[:D] )

RE: s/m 1/6 f16 in my hot little hands!
One of my friends here in Norway fly the F-16 with the 200, and it flies great and lands just like mine. I would not worry about the little extra weight. I sometimes fly mine with 1 pound of water onboard and all the tanks (6.5 liters) full, and have landed just 2 minutes after takeoff as we had a full-size plane coming in, and even in that heavy configuration it lands quite nicely once you learn the point where you throttle down and the exact angle of attack. I have stood beside 2 buddies here on their F-16 maidens, they had both been flying CARF Eurosports before and were used to just going to idle and flaring a lot on landing. I had to be very clear that they should actually push the elevator stick forward to obtain an almost parallel-to-the ground attitude of the model. After that, it will settle very nicely. I still use the brakes on the elevator down stick, as long as you don't land to fast and let the plane roll out maybe 20-30 meters before you apply the brakes you are fine. On shorter runways, that may of course be a problem, and brakes on a slider sounds like a good idea. From 1:15 in this video you can see how the plane keeps the same attitude and almost no corrections on it's way down:

RE: s/m 1/6 f16 in my hot little hands!
Chema, my CG is at 225 mm now, and the plane flies great with that. My wings are especially ordered without flaps or ailrons, I only fly with full flying stabs as tailerons and elevators. The plane slows down nicely when you lift the nose just a little, but be careful as it will stop very fast in the air if it gets too high..

RE: BAE Hawk vs F-16 (fun poll)
F-16 is the sexiest plane ever to be powered by a turbine (there are - I hate to admit - a couple of prop planes, the P-51D and the Spitfire - that are quite sexy as well!!![:D][:D]) Whenever I go to a jet meeting now, the number of red and white Eurosports is declining, and an armada of Hawks are taking over!! I was lucky enough to get to fly an Airworld BIG Hawk in Sweden recently, and it's a great airplane, but there are just toooooo many of them!!![:)] Very nice and predictable flyer, but no big, hairy cohones!! I LOVE my F-16!!! (It's my 4th F-16, ok, I may be a little single-minded!!)[:-] Just take a look at this: Looks pretty good even in a very strong cross wind, right?[:D] Tor

RE: s/m 1/6 f16 in my hot little hands!
Chema, the reason for the rudder breaking is flutter - the original rudder link is not good, you should do as most of us have done (even one person only a week ago here in Norway who had flutter) - you should install the rudder servo inside the fin with regular links to a control horn glued into the rudder. My servo horn even goes all the way through the fin and I have one control link on each side, to be 100% sure that no flutter can occur. It doesn't look as good as the original solution, but you will not loose your plane to flutter![:D] Tor

Aerofly FS flight sim video
Hi guys - I know quite a few of you are flying the awesome Aerofly Pro RC flight sim. They have recently released Aerofly FS, a full-size flight sim, but you can still fly it with your own transmitter and it's got the best graphics I have ever seen. Take a look at this video - it's the first flight sim that has made me feel the speed and get dizzy flying! [:D] (I am not in any way associated with Aerofly - I just have so much fun with this sim!) RE: The G forces we put our planes & jets through
ORIGINAL: Airplanes400 The G meters don't cost much. Just for fun, install one in your jet and see what readings you get. Even during normal flight, I was surprised at the readings I got. It isn't hard to get 8 or 9 G's just doing steep banked turns and maintaining level flight when the jet is doing about 150 mph.
I have used some Eagle Tree products, they are inexpensive and work well, I might try one of their G-meters just out of curiosity! [:D]

RE: The G forces we put our planes & jets through
Very interesting reading indeed, both the G-forces and the altitudes were much higher that I would expect, and something to take into consideration when flying. However, I do not agree with the point about Chinese jets - I have owned 5 Skymaster jets, 2 of those have been the 1:6 F-16, and I roll, loop and do split S-s all the time. What I do not do is yank and bank like some pilots do at Jetpower Fair and other exhibitions . Yes, it may look impressive from one single perspective, wondering how it is possible (and how responsible it is) to fly a model jet in an extreme high speed 90 degree bank without it breaking apart? I fly every manuever in the book with my jets, but I do it like there should be a live pilot in the plane, and therefore it looks smooth and scale instead of toy-like flipping around in the sky. I have no idea how many G-s I pull, but I would guess that it's closer to what a real pilot would survive, not something that would kill him instantly.. [:D]

RE: Skymaster G2 F16 arrives
It looks great, Mark - I am on my second SM 1:6 F-16 now, the first one has been through 4 owners and is still flying, and I had almost 200 flights on that airframe before I sold it. The "new" one now has about 75 flights, and I can see a G2 in my future, and will follow this thread and look forward to hearing the details! Tor

We now have more than 6 SM F-16's in Norway, and I hope that we will gather at least 4 of the at our Fyresdal Jet Power event during the first week of June this year. Meanwhile, we enjoy flying these great models as often as we can!! [:D] Thanks! Tor

RE: Question about jet wagging
Hi Fender - both my SM 1:6 F-16's have wagged at high speed, it can be minimized with a gyro on the rudder, that takes out most of the wagging and makes it look much better at full throttle. Tor

RE: Fly Eagle 1/6 scale F-16 Build Thread
Hi Fender - I actually visited the Norwegian service and upgrade shop for our F-16's when I built mine, they gave me the same answer - there are a multitude of modes, from flashing everything to solid all over except for the one on top of the rudder. There were also different lights (like one under the belly on some that were missing on others, as well as one close behind the cockpit) - so anything goes! We have some loooong, bright summer evenings here where dusk lasts all night long, great opportunity to fly with all the lights, looks amazing! Tor

RE: Internet Brands-Owners of RCU-Everyone Send complaint - link here
Sent complain: Dear Madam or Sir, good day. I am sending this message to lodge a complaint about the web site RCU(RCuniverse.com). Simply put, this site used to perform very well from a practical and functional stand point. When a user logged on, they got in. This kept being the standard protocol until you bought it. After that time it has gotten continually worse to the extent that it is hardly useable. For the Norwegian/European jet community, RCU has been a very useful tool to stay in touch with the world wide jet community, to share updates, air show schedules, build threads etc. Now, it's next to impossible to post anything, images, new post or answers - everything makes the server crash and we are thrown out from the website. It cannot possibly be in your best interest to let this continue - I suppose you bought the site for a reason, and that reason was probably not to let this become the worst rc model website around. Please start taking this seriously now, or there will be no more action on this site and your investment will be lost - we will be forced to find other places to share our interest and information. Best regards Tor Christiansen Board member Jets of Norway Writer for Jet Power magazine and RCJI magazine
