RE: Attaching fuel line from tank to engine.
If I think ahead, which is rare, I can attach 3 fuel lines, each approx 8 long to the tank before I install the engine. When I forget to attach the lines ahead of time I usually have to use my trusty needle nose pliers and snake them around. I also use a 3 line system with only the vent/overflow without a clunk. My tubing from the tank is about 1/2 to 3/4 inches long.

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications
I've had 5 flights with my CG @ 5 1/2" with the gear retracted and didn't see any tail heavy traits. All my throws are as recommended by the manual except rudder as I always like as much as I can get there especially with tail draggin warbirds. One point to note is when on roll out let the tail come up and increase the throttle steadily and let it come off the ground with just a tad of elevator. If you force it up your asking for trouble. If you have a short runway use as much as you can before lifting off. It's much like a big 8 cyl in a car. If u stomp on the throttle you will feel the engine rock. If you increase the throttle smoothly and steadily you won't notice any engine rock. Tom

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications
To tell you the truth I really don't know the RPMs since I haven't put the tach to it. The muffler gives it a 'throatier' sound. On my 60 Corsair the 95V with a 14x7 3 blade will turn about 9K (tached) . I would expect a few more R's with a 2 blade. Both engines are new so I expect an increase in the future. I'm still breaking the engine in so running it about 1/4 turn rich. Tom

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications
My CG is at 5 1/2 and laterally balanced as well. I'm going to install a fueling valve. Right now I'm using a 3 line set up to the tank and it's causing me to clamp the tank to carb line during fueling to prevent flooding. With the engine inverted and most of it hidden under the cowl it is a PITA to clamp the tank to carb line.

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications
Did my Maiden over the weekend. Only trim needed was two clicks of down elevator. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised at it's over all flight performance. I'm pulling her with a OS 95V and it has plenty of power. I found the flaps to be very helpful as I tend to land hotter without using them. I had some engine problems and was getting frustrated until I changed to newer fuel which made all the difference. She's a keeper. Tom

I'm using a Saito 72 4S and it balances without any added weight. I use the OS 95V in 10 LB warbirds. I think the 95V would be overkill. JMHO Tom

I've been warming my epoxy for years in hot tap water especially in the winter. Also when cured epoxy is heated with a heat gun it will liquify and you can debond glued parts. Tom

inverted 4 stroke
I'm building (assembling) a P51 Mustang. This is the first time I'll be installing an engine inverted (OS95v 4 Stroke). I have 20% nitro 18% synthetic fuel. Are there any tips to setting up an inverted installation? Fuel tank level, fuel lines, etc Tom

Has anyone noticed that in the TF manual it shows the wheels on the inside of the struts (wheels into wheel wells first)? Even the picture on the front of the manual shows them backwards. It is easier to get the wheels into the wells but it just isn't correct. And those decals of the stars n bars.....who researched this ARF? Tom

A word of caution when using electrics: it is a good idea to unplug the motor for the prop whenever you are working on other control surfaces to prevent you from an accident. Another option is to remove the prop. Tom

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications
Thanks RBean: I don't fly at your field but have a friend that does. I'm a Member of the 350th flying circus down by Rieglesville. I have the offset Robostruts (3/8) on their way and ordered the wingspan units as they seem very sturdy since they are made of anodized aluminum. We fly from grass as well and I'm hoping I can get by with 3 1/4" wheels. My Mustang just arrived and it looks well built. It looks larger then I had thought it was but online pics can be deceiving. Many greased landings. Tom

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications
Thanks for the quick response. I have the 60 size corsair ARF with the 95V and a 14x7 3-blade and it pulls it with authority. I can't help but think it will pull the mustang even better since it's a cleaner airframe. Unless top flite has improved the stock gear (which I highly doubt) I'm getting electric retracts. I just have to decide which electrics to get! Tom
