Use two packs, two switch harnesses and plug in to separate ports of the receiver. Charge each pack separately. RE: Just ain't my day!!!
Hi Bill, Everything is fine here. I am amazed at your loss, but at least there was no personal body damage. I know some of our fellows charge their LiPo's on the way to the field and hate to think what would happen if the fire started while they were driving. Like Russ, I too would like to know more details, that is if you know any.

RE: Futaba xmitter question
ORIGINAL: gene6029 I have a Futaba FP-T3FN xmitter that i reciently bought missing the antenna. These were the tan xmitters that the antenna screwed to the top of the box. I would like to use this xmitter in the future & would like to know if anybody can suggest where i might be able to obtain an antenna for it. I own several others like it but this is the only one missing the antenna & would like to have it complete. I have been watching ebay for one being sold for parts, but to no avail. I cant bring myself to buy an intact working radio only to rob the antenna from it. If any one knows of a source i would appreciate the lead. Thanks......Gene
I have one from a FP-T4FN which has a microphone connector on the transmitter end. I don't want to rain on a parade but that transmitter is broadband and is not legal to use since about 1990. If you are interested in the antenna I have, send me a PM.
ORIGINAL: Greenaero17 Hey Dan, I really like your color scheme on your Tri-Squire, I just might steal it! (the color scheme that is)[:D] -Larry http://www.burnsmodelaircraft.com AMA 62678
No problem, use it as you like. I am not sure I was the first to do so. I am not good at artistic design, so I have used that scheme for years. Also it is quick to put on. Usually when I get to the trim stage, I am ready to fly it and do not want to spend a lot of time dolling it up. Most all of the planes I build are yellow. I was asked why I favored yellow. I say "First, I like the color and second the wife doesn't know I have another plane." All yellow planes look a like to the disinterested.
ORIGINAL: Muroc1 YB, I spoke with my Allstate agent and they said flying RC airplanes is covered under my HO. It took some research on their part, but they did get back with an answer to me. Frank
Did they say to what extent the coverage applies and if there is a deductable? Does it cover both property and medical? I think I will ask mine these same questions.

RE: AMA competitor launches! Sportfliers.com $20 per year
Since this new stuff is primary coverage and AMA is secondary coverage I may join SportFliers and use it for my primary instead of my home owners. It doesn't say that it excludes flying at an AMA field. I would still belong to the AMA. This way you would use them as primary coverage for planes under 12 lbs. About 2/3 of my fleet are under 12 lbs. $1m coverage at $20 per year sounds good to me as my homeowners wouldn't cover that much. If AMA is smart they may offer a discount if you joined Sportfliers as this may lessen AMA insurance libility. I'll wait and see if they stick around and have more than a PO box listed.

RE: Membership Numbers 2009 closeout, ETC>
ORIGINAL: RCPAUL I firmly believe that if ARFs had not come along, the number in the hobby (and AMA) would be a lot less. I think also that the decrease in AMA membership will continue despite efforts to bring the numbers up. Paul
I agree with your assessment. I think the decline is relative to two areas. 1) If you look at the average age of club members it is quite high. Death is taking it's toll on modelers and memberships. We lost three last year. Our club has gone from 183 in 2001 to about 135 today. 2) Park flyers have also caused the decline of new members. Instead of a $400 trainer and one year membership in local club and AMA, they are buying a $100 POS and going to a local park. After getting it hung in a tree several times, if they could make it fly, they quit. My $.02
ORIGINAL: Doc.316 Hey IFlyJ3 that is pretty cool. I espicially like the pulse commander in 2.4. The encoder boards are neat. Are they basically a programmed PIC chip? You don't have to give out trade secrets but I am in this hobby to learn about everything. Do you have to program the chip for each radio since they use different values of control pots ...or do you have adjustments

RE: What are people doing with this old stuff??
ORIGINAL: Doc.316 Well, I have to admit that I fly 27mhz, 72mhz, and I just got into the 2.4 frequency's but mostly I have 72mhz since I would take a real hit if I changed everything to 2.4 so it will probably be years before I get changed over to 2.4......and I have to admit I am bit nostalgic....still have all the radios I have ever owned...and a few more. Most are operational if legal. I didn't realize that so many people still ran the old frequencys (illegaly). Personally, around here if someone shot someone down with an old wideband transmitter there probably be bloodshed...I guess it doesn't hurt anything if they really are in the sticks.
Doc.316, I am heavy in to 2.4 but I still fly limited stuff on 27, 50, 53 and 72 MHz. I do not believe there are very many operating illegally with the old wide band 72 MHz radios. RE: Where to buy old R/C systems (but with modern electronics)?
ORIGINAL: maxpower1954 Hey Dan, I didn't mean to implicate that guys never got shot down on 27mhz - but in the Florida sticks where I grew up, it wasn't an issue. But believe you me, anytime one of the local flyers tip-stalled an airplane, the first words out of his mouth were ''I got hit!'' Russ Farris
Hey Russ, I agree with your treatise on the old stuff as you have outlined. 1) The only thing old you are using is the transmitter, which is the most reliable part of the old system. The big problem with the old stuff was the servos. I just take it one step farther and use the case and sticks from the old transmitter. My encoder holds 8 models and is programmable. 2) In the 1970's the 27 MHz band was bad because of the high wattage linears on any channel the user desired, including the RC frequencies. Now with CB at an all time low, the band is once again usable. However, a lot of toy airplanes and other stuff is now on the 27 MHz band and the users are oblivious to any kind of frequency control or their location to an RC field. Yes, I do have a system on 27 MHz. 3) You are correct on the "I got hit" phrase that people used. Now on 2.4 they can't use that excuse. Remember, the C of R/C at Muncie is only days away. Come watch Dan lock in last place in the Rudder only championship. I hope to see you there.

RE: Why were single-stick transmitters discontinued?
ORIGINAL: landeck From 1973 until the beginning of this year I flew only single stick. I still fly with a Kraft 7 channel BiCentenial series '76 system and an Ace MP8K system. The Ace transmitter I bought in 1990 and it was, I believe, the first true computer radio on the market with the programing features of today's radios and a ten model memory. It has a great all metal gimbal that has never given me a bit of trouble. I found it a very natural way to fly with the Tx firmly grasped in the crook of the left arm, and the right hand controling the primary flight controls with left index finger on the throttle. But I wanted to go to 2.4ghz and the only way to do that with my current Ace Tx was to buy a Futaba module and send the whole thing off to Radio South for a conversion. That would be costly and I was ready for some of the advanced features of today's radios. Bruce
FYI, I sell a conversion kit for the MP8K to allow you to plug in any Futaba 9C format RF deck. The kit is plug and play except for cutting a rectangular hole in the back. I have the rights to the MP8K code and have introduced two upgrades and the current level released is 6.00.06. Many features have been added to the software. For more information join the MP8K support group at http://www.groups.yahoo.com/group/mp8k or email me as below. Thanks,

RE: Where to buy old R/C systems (but with modern electronics)?
Take a look here http://photobucket.com/StoneAgeRC These are old single, two and three channel transmitters I have converted. These have a simple encoder that I designed and programmed. I do not sell them since the cost of conversion and support would be very high due to the labor. If you are will to pay the cost there are some that will do conversions using the MicroStar 2000 encoder and 2.4 GHz decks.

RE: Why were single-stick transmitters discontinued?
ORIGINAL: 5487 I always thought that single-stick transmitters were more natural for controlling airplanes than the more common dual-stick units; however, they're almost nonexistant nowadays. Nonetheless, they were somewhat popular in the early days of digital proportional (1970s) as practically every major manufacturer offered both single and dual-stick versions of their systems. What happened? Harvey
In my opinion, cost of manufacturing the single stick versas two cheap sticks.

RE: Any old RCM Digi-Trio pilots out there?
Yes, I built one in 1965, starting with the first RCM issue that covered it. A buddy also built one which I ended up with when he quit the hobby in 1970. I expanded mine to 5 and 6 channels. I have one on 6 meters and one on 27 MHz. I have the Controlaire servos that were the reed servo with the Digitrio electronics. I also have one Orbit PS2 with the Digitrio amplifier. I flew a lot of flights with the Digitrio and cleaned a lot of feed back pots. Compared to today's $12 servos, the Digitrio servos were slow, slow, slow. However, even as slow as it was, it sure beat the analog system I was using. I still have both systems in a box.
