I was about to get a set of the carbons. They might have just worn down. Might have to buy some more tomorow and see what I can do. Thanks ~Michael~

Paddles Rotating. Can it be stopped?
After flying some hard 3D with my 450, I came down and one of the paddles had rotated on the rod. Since there is not a way to tighten it on the flybar rod (like on a Raptor or something), what can I do make this not happen. I did find that it did not effect flight characteristics at all - surprisingly. Any insight? Id really not want the paddles to even come off. I was thinking go flybarless :) ~Michael~

Yak 54 From Gene Bond on RCGroups.com
I was looking for a nice foamie plan I could make myself and have the free plans for. I found them at http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=420980 It's the Yak 54 from Gene bond. Here is what I bought to use for it 4 10.5x47" 5mm Cellfoam from Midwest Products which I hope will work Common Sense RC Motor Model #E5-M-18 which is 1500Kv and rated for 12-26oz planes Common Sense RC 20A ESC 4x E-Flite S60 servos (rated at .10 sec and 12.5oz torque) APC 10x4.7 prop (too much for this motor/esc combo?) Common Sense RC 3S 1300mah 25C LiPo DuBro's Small Nylon hinges (is there something else I might could use? or will these work fine? Just melt away the foam for them to go in?) Deans Connectors (I could use some small JST connectors but I already have an adaptor set up for my charger) CA (foam safe of course) Carbon Rods (2 24" of each) .050 solid .098 solid .110 solid .124 tube What I'm wondering about these is which ones to use for different parts of the plane. I was thinking about the .125 for the length of the fuse (which I"m wondering if 24" will be enough considering the ENTIRE length of the plane is 36" (there IS a 30" version)...and either the .098 or .110 for the tail bracing and then the .050 for the pushrods. I"m going to make control horns out of lite ply and just glue them into the foam on the control surfaces. I'm not sure if this set up will work but I hope it does. I'm hoping to get this plane done this week to have to mess around with for July 4th. Thanks for your help ~Michael~

RE: Designing My Own
ORIGINAL: TedMo Lots of fine choices there. Just one thing I wish to comment on. You state wish to play around with in yard. Hope you have a large yard; these are small and light but still a dangerous missle. Please take heed.
Yeah, I really like the Yak design and then alter it to suit what i want. Building with foam, I'm sure I would add that much weight if I extended the ailerons if needed. I don't have that big of a yard. It's actually a neighborhood i live in but have flown many foamies and am comfortable with confined areas. Thanks for your comments ~Michael~

Designing My Own
I have gone electric with a helicopter - the T-Rex 450 - but want to get an electric plane to play around in the yard. I was Googling RCFoam designs (actually the LHS guy was) and came across a design from http://rcfoam.com/cart.php?page=plans. I was looking at the Yak at the bottom. I could of course alter the ailerons and tail to make it what I want. It prints out regularly and then you match up the papers and just build from there. The 3mm foam isn't that expensive for 2 sheets. I looked at the E-Flite 300 motor with some Hitec HS-55 servos, a 20 amp speed controller and then of course reciever and like a 800mah LiPo. Only thing is, are they harder to design myself. I don't have a large building table and could get the foam, but what would be best to design my own plane. I would like to but don't have CAD (even though I know I don't need it). Can something be done in PhotoShop? Any help would be appreciated! ~Michael~

RE: Monster Planes Fly-In
Well I was just wondering if ya'll were going. I have seen alot of threads around about no 3D flying. I guess at the moment, I could care less about the 3D flying. I know there are large Extras, Edges, etc. out there that could come to the event. I have read up on it but could have swore it was in Muncie. The planes are going to be huge but the trip is very long. I was wanting to take the new car I just bought down there but if I can get on my dads stuff for flying since he works for US Air, I could fly down there for free and save $200 in gas. ~Michael~

Wow. What a profound respone I have got. Thanks alot too for them. I have seen that there is a 2.4 module or something for the 7C actually but haven't really look anymore into it other than just seeing it advertised. I have the 6EXA, the 4 Channel and the 7C like I said, so I might as well start selling them now while they're still actually worth a decent amount of money. I might just go with the 9C to step up with the 2.4 revolution and have more of a radio Thanks again ~Michael~

Thinking of Switching to 2.4
There are so many technological advances in this hobby, it's really hard to keep up. I started out with the little 4 channel I got with my trainer, moved up to the 6 channel Futaba 6EXA then won a 7C from a fly-in. I love this but am thinking about switching to eithe the FASST system from Futaba (since now you can get the 9C with this installed) or go with Spread Spectrum (oh and that's a really hard word to say back to back - Spread Spectrum) Anyways, this is of course the newest of the new and I'm sure the price will drop in the near future, but I have heard alot of fantastic things about 2.4Ghz and have serious considered selling all my other radios and switching entirely. Is it worth what I'm gaining? Speed Accuracy Ease of Use? Thanks for the help ~Michael~

I did use a Sigma 50-500 and was super super happy with the recent shots I got of Thunderbirds a couple months ago. I think the 18-135 is a decent lens being 7.5 times zoom but definately the 70-300/55-200 or that 70-200 2.8 would be great but it's hella expensive. ~Michael~

RE: Charging Problems...taking 6 hrs for 2200 maH?
Alright.....I used my Triton and it's still taking a long time to charge. Now I did notice a slight difference when everything was balanced for the whole night before but it still took 134 min and that wasn't even on an empty battery. I only flew for like 5 min to get the blade tracking right. Now on the Triton, it charges the exact opposite as far as putting current into the batter. On it, it will start at .1 amp and go up where as the Accu-Cycle will start at 2.0A and go down..... Neither the Triton nor the Accu-Cycle will go above 1A whatsoever. Someone at the LHS suggested trying another "regular" battery like a NiCd or something and just try 2A in it for just a little bit to see if it will even go up to 2A. Any other suggestions. Thanks for the help so far though ~Michael~

RE: Charging Problems...taking 6 hrs for 2200 maH?
Well I can't find a battery that's strong enough. I have a 120V adapter for the Accu-Cycle but when just pulling out the plugs for that and hooking up the Triton, it says I'm getting a voltage error. I finally went to a actually battery charger (which is actually used for a car charger or jump starter). I am getting the current (just putting it up to 12 amps...it can go up to 75A but I DARE not do that) but just not the voltage that I need. I guess all I have left to do is get a 12V battery from the auto store.................................. ~Michael~

RE: Charging Problems...taking 6 hrs for 2200 maH?
This charger was just actually on loan until I got my Triton back.....well it back today so I'll have to run a battery down in the heli and see how it works out with MY charger. I am still trying to figure out the balancer. Just as I hear the headspeed drop, like I said, I bring the heli down and disconnect. I'm not exactly sure how long I'm getting out of each battery but I'll time it right now as I go out to fly some. Should I just plug up the balancer first and make sure all cells are about the same in balance and then startcharging? Sorry but I'm just knew to the whole li-po thing and don't want a house on fire Thanks ~Michael~`

I don't think there's a way it could be full because I flew it in the helicopter until I could hear the headspeed fall and brought it down. Waited about 15-20 min and put it on charge. While I was flying the Apogee pack (after all that 6 hr chargin stuff....when it even didn't get a full charge I don't think), the other one was charging and it looks to be doing alot better but that middle LED on the balancer is still on. ~Michael~

Charging Problems...taking 6 hrs for 2200 maH?
I just picked up the Rex SE and am, as the title says, am having some issues with charging. I am using two batteries: 3S Apogee 2200 maH 3S Unknown Brand 2100 maH (unknown only becuase I have the velcro covering the label. I believe it the one which came with the heli) Anways, I first started to charge the Apogee battery at just under 1C @ 2A. I am using the Accu-Cycle Elite Charger and set the capacity to the right setting of 2200 and it's a 3 cell battery. Everything is set right. I set it to charge at 6 pm and 6 hours later at past midnight, it was still charging and only put around 1700 maH in @ 12.600 volts. I was reading through the manual and it talks about the cc/vv where when something happens, the charger stops putting a constant current (which would be the 2A) and starts putting a constant voltage (which would be the 12.6V). Anyways, it got down to just charging at .1A and was still going. Maybe it's just the charger or I"m not doing something right. I am using the Astro Blinky Balancer and when I was charging the Apogee, it had the two outer LED's blinking randomly (which I found online to mean the cells are almost in balance but not exactly there, just close.) The 2100 maH battery is charging now and only the middle LED is lit which I would assume means only the middle cells is doind what it's supposed to. Sorry for all the information but I'm just trying to give as much as possible. Please enlighten me and any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you ~Michael~
