RE: KINGTECH X JETCAT X JETCENTRAL X WREN
I love it when someone else takes the chances with this kind of stuff. Im not sure what happened with JetJoe? I also heard of the simplifying of the JetCat engine, with internalized pump. We will need a more efficient, larger fuel filter if its place in front of the pump. Ok i now understand the fiter is also internal:) John

RE: JetCat 180rx
Sounds like the P 180 RXI Faster response, and a whole lot tidier, and simpler to install. Thats progress. Along with other improvements in our planes. No air, and no propane, hope to never go back to those inconveniences. Are we loosing anything? Such as mystique, the joys of complexity??? The questions of whats that for? We are becoming just like the electrics. Engine, fuel, radio, switch. No more awe of tubes of all colors, and actuators, and electronic duplicators. John

RE: JetCat P90 RXI
Jumping in with speculation. JetCat has the best software to design the most efficient engines. High speed flow efficiency combustion, exhaust, all worked out in CAD. It seems unlikey that they would engineer in mods to an old engine, and not use newer more efficient metal to do the task. Just thinking, not disagreeing. :) John

Marc, Just wondering if you have a prefence to the radial, like the old drum brakes where a O ring pushes outward as in centrifugal, or the "Disc" brakes where the pressure is lateral along the axis of the axle? Two totally different types of engineering. John

I like the one from Sin City Jets. Chad has a variable speed control that keeps some of the tanks from overpressurizing and leaking. Some of our tanks are very light weight. John

RE: Very Cool F-15 Picture
When do we accept something like this as a work of art, and when do we get critical of the picture. We have seen a lot of beautiful PhotoShop pictures of jets, that amazed me until i realized how craftily the heat, and blur were put together. Still worth appreciating. Also with nature photography we are seeing a lot of freedom in this area as well. In particular where five or more exposures of the same scene can be blended, so shades are not so dark, and the brights dont become overbearing. HDR. But even here we want more of reality, and less of the messing around. So catch me off guard. I thought this picture was fake, because those look like drop tanks, that dont go into combat situations because of weight and drag. John

RE: JR XG Radio in US Anyone Using Yet??
Some new information on the XG radios. The internal charger must have 9v. Disapointing, since most of us have 12 v in our car batteries, etc. But it must be 9v. The end of charge is announced by the light going off. Its on while charging. Once the light goes off - then it must be disconnected. Apparantly there is some grace period, and im not sure if this is a liability thing, or if the charger in the transmitter is not trustworthy, if they (JR) is overstating or correctly stating. But the consequences of not disconnecting immediately are apparently very DIRE. Scarry. :( So you must babysit this thing while it is charging from satrt to finish. Futaba has an internal charger which can use a wall transformer, or 12-24 volt power supply - such as a car battery. At least the signal connection is much better now with the XG 11, as they have stopped their satellite supplemental recievers. Wish the telemetry was internal like the Futaba FAASTEST has it. Not trying to push sides here, just to understand a product. Comments and disagreement only sharpen our understanding. I have both, and can appreciate features on either.

RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video
I dont have a cockpit, since i know whos flying the plane, and we dont have a lot of spectators to try and fool. What i like is to be able to look into the fuse tank, and see a 1/2 tank of fuel lef, and then take off for a couple of touch and goes, and then land. I like the landings, and take offs. John .....I was going to say something about going by too fast to see the cockpit, using a JetCat, and all. But then i thought of going out and flying in Vegas with Dave, and thought better of it. :) :)

RE: Ultra Flash pilots
On my Flashes, and for all of the ones i have seen - They always draing wing first. Simplicity. But its a good question, since the long fuse tank with the fuel moving to the back with a long nose up approach - makes you want to rethink the whole thing. But it doesnt seem to matter, and it certainly is simpler wing tank draining first. John

The 180RX, has been available, and will be available again soon. Apparently with a few new tweeks. I agree, that with the same weight, and dimensions, its a bigger but rewarding investment. And the fuel economy is where you place the throttle. John

Anyone know about the charging issues on this radio. Such as how the charger works internally? There are dire warnings about leaving the charger or power supply attached after charging. And its 9v. Anyone know for sure if we can use a 12v battery as a power supply? John

RE: The New JR XG 11 Transmitter DMSS
Thank you Dave. What are the consequenses of forgetting? Is it a liability thing with most batteries, such as a failure of the charger to shut off might result in a real fire situation, or will there always be dire consequenses to forgetfulness, such as zero tolerance, and your radio destructs in flames and takes everything around it sort of thing? That might be nice to clarify if anyone knows what the issues are. John

RE: The New JR XG 11 Transmitter DMSS
Hooker Yes though that would be an inconvenience, but it is practical. But then that is for a full charge from empty. What if its at 65%, then would the batteries cook for two hours. The light goes off, when done charging, but you have to catch it. Hence i wanted to charge on the way to the field, monitoring it, while topping off with a cig cord, (but that is 12v). But then again its a 9v supply (not more, not less) that is needed. Maybe a 3 cel A123 could save the day as a power supplier. John

RE: The New JR XG 11 Transmitter DMSS
Dave, Thank you that really is a lot of information. It was word of mouth that 9v was the only source you could use on it. Futaba has an inboard charger, and you can use 12 - 24 volts as a power supply. Unbelieveably handy. If this JR radio could use a 12v supply it would also be amazingly handy. Could you check in on that from a knowledgeable source? And which Power box are you using with it? John

RE: The New JR XG 11 Transmitter DMSS
Well, i hope to hear from people in Europe that have used it. I would really like to hear that there is a power safe reciever somewhere in the works, or a PowerBox type of supplier that can make it work. It seems to have good gimbals, and a good feel to it. And a robust RF connection. I have a JR 12X and a Futaba 18MZ, just wondering if this is JRs future, or not. I have Jets on JR and all other on the Futaba. John

The New JR XG 11 Transmitter DMSS
This may be a new radio to the USA, but apparantly it has been in use in Europe and the rest of the worl. I saw the first one today, and had some questions. Horizon tech has no information on these other than is in the manual, which i was able to look through. Im just hoping some one can help with these questions, maybe some one who has the radio and has the experience with it. 1 The battery in the transmitter is a two cell round batteries with only two wires (unballanced) 1,400 mah LiFe. Thats 6.4v. The wall unit provides 9v. And JR finally has the positive as the center pin (good move to be conventional here) It charges full in 3 hrs, with a light indicating charging, and goes out when fully charged. Then it must be disconnected immediately due to a risk of burning. The charge unit is in the transmitter, and needs 9v. Apparently you cannot use a 12v supply, like a Cig lighter to plug directly to the transmitter. The question is - Is it really that fearsome with no flexibility? If i must be with it while charging, to disconnect as soon as the light goes out, i would like to charge on the way to the field, with a 12v supply. Some body help me, it just cannot be so unlikely. 2 Will there be or is there a power safe reciever available? I have learned to appreciate these in the 1222X, which is DSMX. So what is available in recievers in Europe and elswhere with the Dmss? 3 Is this the new, and the direction, where we are going, or is this what the rest of the world has had, and we are all expecting something new, that will replace the 12X. I personally dont see the DX18 as a serious alternative to the 12X, but i may be wrong here. Its exciting to think that new stuff is coming our way, but am puzzled as to what the XG11 represents? RE: Ultra Flash ground handling
In aswer to the comment on Expo. I have learned to use a little expo with my jets, but really prefer not to for most of my flying. Im writing this even though it is a little off topic, but somewhat related to control of the nose wheel. I fly very relaxed, and small movements are quick and predictable. The servo wheel - to push rod, naturally has adverse expo, so have settled for a little expo just to make the response linear. But for really fast flying, such as 400mph, we rarely use expo, and prefer the center sensitivity, just because things happen fast, and the first twitch is all you need to keep on course. If you need wide stick excursions its hard to get instant response to get out of turbulent situations where instant reaction can save the moment. Since this is the way i have been flying, taking up Jets a few years ago, i have been reluctant to fly Jets with a lot of expo as well. When friends borrow my Plane and tx, there is that immediate question of why not use EXPO? Then when i try their Jet, i have to use up so much stick, it seems slow and fearsomely unpredictable. And i know why. So, not saying anyone is right or wrong, I just have that strong preference. John

Some have been seen by sponsored pilots, but for the rest of us Yahoos, they won't be available for possibly another month. Mid September. But it will be an orphan, not compatible with other systems, or JR or Spectrum receivers. I like the idea of like the new Futaba, it will have direct charging from a 12V source. The telemetry will be a separate module attached to the receiver. Also i like the reliability that uses only two whiskers instead of multi modules. John
