RE: Pilots in High Desert Southern California
Flycatch, I work in Barstow and live in Apple Valley. I fly both planes/heli's and there are several flying fields in the Victor Valley. The AMA Field is off of Arrowhead Lake Rd behind Hesperia Lakes. The large scale stuff/jets fly at Rabbit Lake (Hwy 18 & High Rd in Lucern) and I fly at Hwy 18 & Milpas. Funtime Hobbies opened about 6 months ago in Hesperia. Within the next month or two we will be opening a full airplane/heli department. Sorry I'm not much help with guys flying in Barstow.

RE: My scale heli videos.
Nice heli, I'd like to see it flown in a little more scale fashion. Props to your camera man.

RE: New Scale Heli Site
I want to thank you for the excellent customer service! The AS350 is still drawing much attention at the flying field. Even my airplane buddies continue to comment on it's attention to scale detail and quality. The gloss paint finish is amazing.

Cliff, I know you're a busy man but by any chance did you get my email about the AS350 tail rotor case? Functioning struts on the Blawk Hawk!!! That sounds awsome! Brandon

RE: Head Speed drops in - Pitch?
Hey Jim, it's funny you mentioned the header tank because I wondered that myself and actually purchased one a few weeks ago and just never got around to putting it on. I'm gonna have to put it on and play with the carb because both lean and rich conditions have been mentioned. I'll let you know what I find out. Brandon

RE: Head Speed drops in - Pitch?
80% because its I'm running an OS Hyper 50 with 550mm blades. The 50 running 100% turns too high of a head speed. I've varified the blade pitch to confirm the pitch range multiple times, 12 positive and 9 negative. I know the true fix to this problem is to ultimately run 600-620 blades which I plan to in the future. I bought this heli used but never flown with two extra 30 crash kits and no engine. I had an extra Hyper 50 and figured it would work fine. It works well right side up!

Head Speed drops in - Pitch?
Hope you guys can help. I've tried everything to correct this problem. When I put my Raptor 30 inverted for more than 2-3 seconds the engine boggs down and my head speed drastically drops. I'm afraid if I kept it inverted, the engine would eventually stall. I've tried ajusting both the pitch and throttle curves with no success. At first I wondered if it was the engine. It's an O.S. 50 Hyper with the carb only opening to about 80%. But after thinking about it, that really cannot be becasue it flies great from 0-12 degrees positive! I know, the next crash will be a 50 so that I can let that motor run!

RappyPilot, I want to thank you for having the courage to share a mistake you made in an attempt to prevent someone else from making the same mistake. I thought that is what the forums were for. It's unfortunate there is always someone who makes you feel two inches tall.

RE: Getting back into the hobby..what would you suggest
I second Barracuda on the Raptor 50 Titan. Its very stable in a hover. Durable in a crash, and the crash kits are inexpensive. Mavrikk makes a good crash kit with carbon blades at a reasonable price. The 50 Titan with Thunder Tiger's MD-530 are a reat combination and well within your budget.

Just checked my UPS tracking again and my AS350 fuse will be here tomorrow! I'm looking forward to that red and black glossy finish. "Scale Flying" do yo have any info on the Blackhawk colors? I have a second Rappy that could use a Black Hawk fuse in Army green!!!

RE: Gyro compatability
BarracudaHockey, I think you have misunderstood me or maybe I was not clear enough to begin with. I completely understand what your saying about the 401/9254 combo. I've flown that combo. My problem is my 9254 is not working properly and needs to be repaired. In the mean time I still want to fly and simply wanted to know if I can fly a JR servo with my Futaba gyro. I have several Futaba S3151 servos and one JR DS8611 laying around. I know for a fact because I've done it, the Futaba S3151 does not work well in a scale fuse. There is not enough torque to turn that fuse after fast forward flight. On the other hand I've had great success using that same Futaba S3151 on my Rappy 30. With that said, would the JR DS8611 be a better choice between the two servos I have laying around as a temporary fix to get back into the air until my 9254 is repaired?

RE: Gyro compatability
I'vealready flown the standard digital futabe in an MD-530 and it does not have enough torque in a fuse. That same servo works fine in my Raptor 30 as long as I'm not flying 3D.

RE: Gyro compatability
My 9254 needs to be sent back and repaired (does not turn right). I have an 8611 without a home and want to fly while the 9254 is repaired. So my choices are a standard digital futaba or a JR 8611. Thats what was ment by the added torque.

RE: Raptor 30 with a OS 50?
Thats what I did with my 50, metal head and tail, scale fuse, all unneccessary items that only add to the cost of repairs when you crash. I came across the 30 this weekend without an engine and crashed my 50 last weekend...it only made sense to build a big block 30! After flying it like that I think I'm just going to order another 50 for the Titan and leave the old 50 in the 30.

RE: Raptor 30 with a OS 50?
Kind of late but what the heck! This weekend I pulled the OS 50 out of my Titan as a complete unit with clutch and fan. I bolted it into my 30V2 after changing the engine mount and nothing more. Went into the radio and dropped the throttle curve before I tried it. I was very pleased at what it did. Even running with engine at about 80% this thing rocks. Its also alot better on fuel too! Mark did you ever put the 50 in your 30?

RE: Raptor30v2 Tail problem
Sounds like the glow plug was not torqued properly. The OS #8 is a good plug. If it keeps falling out, you have an issue with the head...possibly cross threaded and stripped.

Gyro compatability
Does anyone know if I can run a Futaba GY401 gyro with a JR DS8611 servo. I recall something about Futaba and JR not working together in a gyro setup but cannot remember the details or find where I read that. Thanks guys. Brandon

RE: Anyone flying the AS350?
That sounds great, I'm planning on putting it in my Raptor but wanted to make sure it is of good quality. The pics on the web page are awsome but there seems to be very few sold ad that was my concern. Glad to hear its a nice product. It got pushed back to next months budget when I came across a killer heli deal too good to pass up this weekend! Keep me posted Tr1n1ty. Brandon

Hey guys, Is anyone flying the AS350 (600 size) distributed through Scaleflying and Skyhawk Hobbies? I'm very interested in this fuselage but want to be sure its what it appears to be on the websites. It is extremely detailed with a paint job that belongs on a shelf! Brandon

RE: CMP Retracts
I had a set of the CMP retracts in my 50 size Zero. They functioned well but were too stiff and did not survive a moderatly rough dead stick landing. The plastic housing cracked. The tires I had were the original CMP tires which were very hard. Had I had soft low bounce tires, the housing may not have cracked. I guess for the price, buy two sets!
