RE: *** Warbirds Over The Rockies 2011, Onsite Coverage ***
It did come out very nicely! I assume that's the camera mounted on the bottom of the fuselage under the tail in my photo in the post at the top of this page? -Scot Yep, that's exactly what that is in the picture you are talking about. Ryan suggested that was the best place for it. I was worried about a heat issue, but he said that there wouldn't be any problems with heat there. He was correct, no issues with the heat. I liked the view that I got from it mounted there. Ken

Sorry about that, it is a beautiful plane but I don't seem to have caught it. I only shoot planes in the air starting with the noon show as otherwise, the sun is in the wrong place. I concentrate on the planes that are close but try to get a shot of everything in the air when there are several up but I sure missed that one. -Scot

RE: Warbirds Over The Rockies
In years past, I've always counted on Saturday as the "main event". Looks like I missed some great planes this year by only going on Saturday (Brian's Sea Fury, the Vickers, an F84 in the T-bird colors, Egil's Warthog and I'm sure there were others). Was that planned? Egil put the A-10 together in the morning but never took it off the stand, seemed like it was going to go up but just ran out of time/space/??? Not that Saturday wasn't great, I'm happy shooting almost anything that's in the air but sure wish I'd seen some of the others up there. -Scot

RE: Warbirds Over The Rockies
Actually, there's a D3000, D300 and D3. My wife has the D3000, it's the absolute bottom of the line DSLR from Nikon and it does a great job! The D3 is completely on the other end of the scale, certainly a handful but it does a few things nothing else does. 90% of the shots could have been taken with the D3000, the glass makes all the difference. I shot most of those at f8, 1/1200th - 1/1600th -Scot

I have created a web repository and index for my model plane event photos and these include the 2007, 2008, and 2009 WOTR photos: http://home.comcast.net/~photoheath1/photos/model_planes_index.html A fair number of you asked for photos from this year's WOTR event, the older photos are game as well. 2008 was a bit of a challenge as the lighting was extremely varied and I didn't have the camera I have now but there are some nice shots there. -Scot

Here you go, mouse in the air! http://home.comcast.net/~photoheath1/photos/WOTR_2009/slides/20090829_LoveAir_WOTR_0675.html This is the middle shot of a 5 shot sequence, all with the mouse including that on-the-nose landing....
ORIGINAL: fw190 If you guys are wondering why I have a mouse strapped on the top of my fw190 cowl, it was payback for chewing my aileron servo wire. The mouse tried to make crib inside my fuselage, Dino, Scottdog and I we found him there with his furniture (grass) when we removed the wing. I think we had a nice video of the little rat being evicted. However we found the little guy roaming Fort Collin's Walmart store and took him back for pun and punishment. I had a barrel of laughs that next morning with me surprising a few pilots including Brian Omeara, who said , 'thats just wrong' after I pulled him out of my pocket and little mouse bouncing on his chest. ROFL! If anyone have any pics of it in air, I would really appreciate it, please send to vic@vicrc.com! Here is one from my phone camera. ps. No animal or mouse was harmed or hurt during this event, however the little mouse may have shit bricks during my landing! LOL
I knew these were in my batch, potentially others as well but I'm in an airport and have to hustle to a plane. If you go through my photos and find others, PM me with the photo numbers and I'll email them to you. -Scot

RE: Warbirds Over the Rockies, Aug 28-30. Who's going?
Thank you all for the kind words. If you want to use a photo commercially, let's talk but for private use, I'll email you whatever you'd like. They can be big but typically are significantly cropped to a couple meg or less. I'm not so good at identifying some of the planes, the best way to let me know which photos you'd like is by the ID number under the photo in the slide show, such as: 20090829_LoveAir_WOTR_0018.jpg Sorry I don't have more shots on the ground, I was a dope and didn't buy a pit pass in advance thinking I'd just pick one up at the show. Turns out the number of passes was limited and they litterally hit the cut-off just as I walked in the reg. tent! I shot from the top of the bleachers, Not as close as I'd like but I do get some nice background that way. I'll do better next year! -Scot
ORIGINAL: G-Pete Yes, Saturday are more airplanes then Sundays. A lot of guys have a long ride home and pack early Sunday around noon. We started packing at 4pm and were home 7.30am Monday morning. Needless to say this was another day off. Like I said a lot of the guys are not local and try to have dinner with their family at home. Happy landings G-Pete
I made a feeble attempt at getting access to the flight line for photos but settled for shooting from the stands. I think more head-on/tail-on shots would be interesting, particularly of take-offs and landings. Perhaps next year I can get my ducks in a row and make arrangments. -Scot
