RE: ???? who makes this
so did you take the whole rear duct out of the jet or just add a lexan piece in between the fan unit and where the duct goes into the fuse
I removed the origional glass duct to save weight and installed my own lexan duct. I am going to change the fan this winter to one of the Dynamax conversion possibilities out there. MIght talk to TAM about that as well as research my own setup. I am not happy with the power of the 100mm fan.

RE: How to flat spot pins
There are a couple of good techniques. After you mark the correct alignment on the shaft for the flat spot, use a dremal with a sanding drum and create a flat spot as close as possible to the set screw location and the desired shaft alignment. If it a bit off, just tilt the drum in the spot, in the appropriate direction to get the toe in you desire. Make sure that you rotate the shaft as you are tightening the set screw to make sure of the alignment. It helps to have a carbide sanding drum as well. I used to just use a cutting wheel, but the drum makes a u shaped slot that prevents the gear from falling out if the set screw loosens up and it doesn't have to be as deep.

RE: The new Tornado sport jet
Was having the same problem. Make sure your steering cables aren't too tight. It needs just a bit of slop and the nose gear will lock down everytime. Also make sure the change for the best an reliable electric retracts in the world retract sits flat on the rails if it rocks it will bind when the Home page of the leading discount RC screw distributor for model builders. screws are tightened down.
Thanks for all of your input, I have the spring air gear that was origionally sent and I thought that I had the steering cables loose enough. No problems locking down when sitting inverted. I changed the retract unit now to another that was on my Kangaroo origionally. It has a stronger spring and a different lock down bar. I also made sure that the steering cables are looser now as well. Will see how it works next weekend, but if I can't get it to stay down, then I guess I'll have to switch to fully pneumatic retracts. I had both versions of the Rookie but never setup the canards for braking. Now, wish I had. I have a buddy that does that and it does make a big difference. Loved the canards for flying though.

RE: The new Tornado sport jet
I really hate to add to what was already stated, but I set my CG by distance as per the manual and the plane flies like a dream. My stalls just mush. Having flown the Kangaroo and Rookie series, it feels wierd to have to land with some power until touchdown. I am really enjoying flying this plane even though I am far beyond a "trainer" jet. One question though. Has anyone had any troubles getting their nose gear to lock down ? Mine gets held backwards in an unlocked position because of air pressure. Even in a well flared landing, sometimes it still is not locked at touchdown. I have changed the nose retract to a heavier duty spring air, but have not flown it yet. Any thoughts ?

RE: ???? who makes this
That is one nice Panthere. Love the way mine flies. Both as DF and now as EDF. I am using a CG point of 7" back from the lower lip of the inlet or 12 1/2 " forward of the trailing edge of the wing. You inlet lip might be a bit different, so the measurement from the TE is probably better. As Art said, I am using a TAM100 with a home made exhaust duct out of Lexan. I like the thrust, but the jet lacks vertical. I can perform an immelman, but not a loop. Flying on 10 cells and 11 doesn't seem to make any difference. I have been considering changing to one of the dynamax conversions sometime in the future to get a bit more thrust. Let me know how you make out with yours. Doug

I will try to.... Jim really needs that new awning cover.... [:D] I told Lennie (Max) that you would probably win most smoke as long as you can enter the fire pit.

RE: Horizon Hobby 2012 Air Meet
I for one always make a point of attending the Maine Jet Rally and with the plans for this year, it sounds like a major, don't miss event. (as has been said). I might just have to get a second foamy to go head to head with Jim ! Hopefully, Ray, you will have a nice spot for RV's to hang out, but Don, I think that it would be nicer to have Jim's RV between me and the fire pit ! [:D]

RE: June 1 to 3 - Sherbrooke - Qc - Canada - First Jet Rally
Robin, I will chime in with Frank on the date. I planned to go down to Liberty Bell, that same weekend, as well since we gave Mike some teasing about having his rally this year. He didn't hold it last year for personal reasons and was trying to decide if it was worth carrying on with it. I was really hoping that you would keep your late June date that you had origionally announced and since I only live down in the capital district of New York, I was looking forward to attending your jet rally. I know that it is tough to pick an open date for the northeast that isn't in conflict with some other event some of us regularly attend. Keep us informed if you do decide to change it. Doug

RE: If Napierville, Qc, Canada - Jet Rally ?
Kind of tough asking for the poll, you need to know where people live before deciding what the vote is worth ? I was wondering about camping on site. Is there going to be a restriction about that ? I know of four of five other people that might come and camp at the flying site. The assumption of course that it would be dry camping.

RE: Jets Rally Site - Your opinion please
Looks really promising for us in the Albany NY area . Looks like a great site. Try to stay clear of Penn dates and NE dates and you should get pretty good attendance from us "North East" US guys. Plattsburgh is only about a two hour drive for me and this is not much further north. I look forward to you announcing your date.

RE: Maine Jet Rally
Hey DON, I will be arriving this afternoon as well. Ray never got back to me to confirm Thursday arrival, so not sure if we will get in or not. Both Jim and I will be there though, even if we are camping in the parking lot. I am going to call Ray on the way to find out what is going on. If we are inside, then one of us will be the gatekeeper. Not sure which one will be the keymaster though [;)]

Mike, again, all of our deepest sympathies from Pat and I. We are deeply saddened for your loss.
