RE: Losi 8ight comparison to other buggies
Here is my comparison if you want to become an ase certified mechanic and stimulate our poor economy then the lousy I mean losi is the car for you. How about the small allen head screws that hold the shock shafts together that's a little cheese log don't you think.. then you have to use the TKO orings to keep oil in them. How about there hermaphrodite clutch design that eats bearings and shoes faster than any other conventional design. Then your stuck with them or KH for shoes. How about the cheap bearings that come in the 8 everytime I worked on it it was pretty much standard issue to replace the bearings or should I say flanged under sized bearings. The slop factor is tremendous everyehere on the 8 how about the rear diff wobbles back in forth in the housing under torque. Then you put in those metal housing inserts and it does nothing for you. I am not gonna knock the way it drives to each his own. I like the way my 5r responds to setup changes and it just seems easier to drive in my hands. I remember when I had my 8 after every run was like another day of wrenchin... I like to drive more than wrench and the 5r does not need much of that unless I am changing setup for other tracks. Well there is my fast comparison on the 8 compared to other buggies.

mbx5r off power steering
Anybody know of any decent setups to get more off power steering. Last night was my maiden voyage coming from the losi 8 These cars are total opposite. My setup on the 5r only likes to steer with the ass end on power otherwise it will push like a dumptruck.

RE: Losi 8ight servos
Kyjoe is running a novarossi plus 21-5 with a jammin jp-3 pipe. It's more than a setup issue with the 8. I would love to hear from anybody that has an rtr with 4 gallons and an original throttle servo.

RE: Losi 8ight servos
I do agree with kyjoe it most likely is carb relatrd on the rtr. I did burn up 1 270 due to the fact we were running electric and nitro and accidently had the radio on the wrong model. Who actually knows how long that servo would of lasted probably in the 2 gallon mark or better. kyjoe told me to pull the 270 and put a servo of better quality, but with oiling the slide carb I had to see how long it would go. Everything was going well until my radio mishap. You could even tell when the carb slide would stick with nose high attitude over jumps. I would then just re oil the slide and it would be fine for probably 8 tanks or so.

RE: Losi 8ight servos
What servos have you been running I myself have been through 7 all jr's a melody of 270's 590's and 650's. I have tried everything as well, such as grommets, heat tape, kh tray stiffener, cut ball stud, cut throttle return spring and proper epa's. Good luck I have given up on this car I don't care how great it drives. I will sacrifice a little driveability to reliability anyday.

RE: When will we see the Losi 8ight???
Shock snot or associated green slime alone will not stop them from leaking. They have updated o rings from losi I put tko o rings at that helped alot if they are leaking now it's very little compared to what it was.

RE: When will we see the Losi 8ight???
I don't see how running a looser mesh then tight would compromise the bearings the crank is fine otherwise. I just change them out anyway after I saw my friends clutchbell eat his tank up. I currently just put new aluminum rear bearing inserts and fresh bearings and my diff in the back is loose in the diff halves you can rock both outdrives up and down. It isn't wearing my ring and pinion any worse it's just got alot of slop.

RE: When will we see the Losi 8ight???
I have about 4 gallons on mine. Mine seems to be really loose like an old shoe. It eats both clutch bearings and flange bearings in the 3 diffs and the front dogbone is gonna wear considering the angle it's on. The shocks leak oil and like to unscrew themselves internally ya know the screw on top of the piston. I have threadlocked them and let them dry overnite and they still come undone every once and a while. I never had a problem with the original clutch mine is original going on 4 gallons and it is still wearing fine. I never drove another bug this is my first I am looking at something diffirent maybe a prospec or a new xb8 ec the next time around. Either way good luck.

RE: XB8 30 Gallons on
Doesn't the xray come with a manual that explains what each adjustment does for the buggy... Like the 8ight manual has in the setup section. If not their forum support should get you in the right direction. Da Smak how many servos have you gone through in your 30 gallons and what ones do you use?

RE: Mach 427
I have 1 with about 3.5 gallons on it. I run it with a mc59 plug the only complaint I have with it is that it doesn't like to hot start. I probably should try a different heat range plug or something. It also is a major fuel pig but decent performance for the most part.

RE: XB8 30 Gallons on
Hey Da Smak, I would also like to know what kind of jumps and how hard the track surface is that you run on, some pics would be nice if you got them. I myself am considering this car as a high quality basher looking for durability and longevity. Does anybody know how this car drives compared to the 8ight in box stock form with recommended standard setup. I want something I can run without having to tighten every screw after a couple tanks of fuel.

RE: XB8 30 Gallons on
How much slop has developed in the arms and hinge pins. How many times did you have to rebuild the shocks to keep them from leaking oil. How many times did you have to rebuild the diffs before they would leak oil.

RE: When will we see the Losi 8ight???
I tried the king headz servo stiffener and I still went through servos. I have all the necessary mods to the linkage and epa cut way back. I believe it is my carb slide sticking and binding in it's bore. I just put oil under the rubber boot over the slide assembly and check it quite often. At our tracks it's easy to tell when it's sticking as the car will fly nose high. Good luck anyway.

RE: XB8 30 Gallons on
I would probably buy the new xb8 ec if parts were easier to get. Are all your gears original as well, how did the bearings hold up how many gallons on them before replacement.

So none of the gears and circuitry are the same. Also are coreless motors tougher than cored motors.

Toughest long lasting servos
What does everybody think are the most durable analog servos out there. For both throttle and steering. What have you tried and how long did it last. Price doesn't matter however a decent warranty does help.

So what is the best pipe manifold combo for this motor. Is it best to go with a nova pipe or will a jammin work just as well.

RE: When will we see the Losi 8ight???
Anybody out there know of any aftermarket aluminum front hinge pin covers. I'm not the best driver out there and it seems at my track the pvc pipes are magnetized to the front hinge pin covers on my 8ight [:D][:D]. It pushes the front bumper into the front hinge pin cover and then punches the hinge pin through the rear cover leaving a perfect round hole if you can understand that. I always just need the rear front cover I am building up quite a bit of the other 3 covers since you have to buy all 4 and I only use the 1.

Novarossi 21-5 plus
Does anybody ever change there conrod after breaking it in and if so after how many gallons do you change it out at. I spoke with fusion motorsports and they said at least every couple gallons of fuel and especially after the breakin process. I just want to hear from someone that has run this engine for a while. What pipe do you guys use with this motor.
