RE: EasyTiger Turbine T-45 All Fiberglass including Wings!
Smell it. Epoxy will have little or no smell, polyester resin has a distinctive "styrene" smell.

RE: Prop Determination
Which prop gives more power? An 11, or 12, or 13?
I need to guess what you mean by power. Your engine will turn an 11x10 a 12x8 and a 13 x6 at approximately the same RPM therefor producing the same ENGINE BHP = power
And what does changing the pitch from 6 to 7 or 8 do for me?
On an 11x10 you will notice that the MODEL will be slower to accelerate to take off speed and may not climb out well. With a 13x6 It will accelerate more quickly on the ground and climb out at a steeper angle. I am assuming it is a TT Tiger 60. a 13x8 will do just fine on a magnum 91 4 stroke but if you want to play around with props a try a 13x6 or a 14x6 and see if you notice a difference.

RE: fixing prop
Got to second the previous poster, bin it and get a new one. Buuuut the APC prop construction involves tip to tip carbon reinforcement soooo it is prooopably OK but do you really want to risk one blade coming off at max RPM? Naaaah BIN IT!

RE: Can I spray PVA glue?
I used to build my combat stuff out of blue foam with brownpaper and PVA. I went to the trouble of spraying the PVA [ water to PVA ratio about 3 to 1 ] once; it worked but I found that I got the same results brushing so did not bother again. If you get a run or build up 220 wet and dry used dry cleans it up.

RE: Covering tips and advice
MUCH easier to cover first, then hinge
I will second that. Cover the bottom first then the top, the edges will not show as much. seal the edges with some clearcoat and then hinge. If possible cover BEFORE you fit the tail feathers to the fuselage.

RE: Need Advice on first kit build!
A scale or semi scale WW1 or WW2 model is not what I would recomend as a first build. Here is a good starter model easy to build and easy to fly. [link=http://lasershortkits.com/doc/UglyStik.pdf]CLICKY[/link] The ugly stick is a classic design and will tolerate all sorts of abuse.

RE: More misc newbie questions
Murphy is alive and well in my house, I swear. Everything that can go wrong regarding building an airplane does. With experience, I hope to get better. Consider yourself lucky I felt I had the whole Murphy family camping in my building room! First off, I installed my power switch on the exhaust side. Geez. Finally corrected that. I reinstalled the switch and went to charge my battery pack and realized it would only charge in the "ON" position. That didn't make much sense to me. Hmmmm?? Ok, I must have put of the label plate on backwards. I fixed that and now all seems well..... Except that when the switch is ON, it is forward. It takes a good bit of force to turn that switch off. Is there any need to set the switch so that OFF is downwind? Will the prop blast and airspeed on an LT-40 be enough to push that switch into the downwind (OFF) position? No but as everyone else says do it the same way on all your models. I like back for on myself. I forgot how to route the fuel lines. From the clunk line to the needle valve, right? Then from the needle valve to the carb. Then from the fuel tank vent line to the vent port on the muffler. Did I get that right? Yup that is right. If a fuel line is too close to the cylinder, could that cause problems with the heat? No Battery charging - They say to charge a battery for 12-15 hours. Can I just leave the charger hooked up all day and not worry? Will most of these chargers stop charging at the right time or must I time the charge to be present at the end of the period to disconnect it. No they keep pumping out the same charge. Here is a solution. Buy a 24hr timer from Walmart. $6 Set it to come on for one hour a day. Plug the WallWart cherger in to it. When you come in from flying set the overide to give any desired charge. I usually go for a minimum of 6 hours. Leave everything plugged in to the next time you go flying. It will charge then top up for 1 hour daily. You KNOW your batteries are charged. Receivers - should I "safety wire" the servos into the receiver to avoid them vibrating out? I already tied down the battery to switch connection with a rubber band. How often to these servo connectors pop out of the receiver in flight causing problems? Never had a problem with servos BUT have seen crashes where it was suspected that the CRYSTAL came out in flight. This is less likely to happen in the US as you guys don't change crystals much, unlike the UK where it is commonplace. I used to tape mine in.

RE: BE careful w/ chinese generic servos
A lot of flyers have a testbed model that they use to flight/vibration test radio gear before fitting it to a big project model. I certainly did. However in 40 + years of flying and dozens of airborne flight packs I can only remember one servo that went bad on testing. Inf act it was jittery right out of the box.

RE: Beveling Basics help
I do this by marking the centre line of elevator edge then marking the top and bottom to give the desired angle. Using a razor plane [ if you do not have one go out and BUY ONE NOW ] with the cut set very thin it is an easy job to plane to the lines and do a neat job. The key is getting a good job is getting the plane set to just remove a very thin cut and eyeballing the job as you go.

RE: Second Plane
A 3D model wth the rates dialed down is easy to fly and pretty difficult to stall. However as they are lightly built they are more easily damaged on landing. The U Can Do 3D has a bit of a mixed rep. Do a search here and see what the guys see. If you already have it then go ahead and build it but there are better 3D models around.

RE: prop rpm question??
I fly a lot of 3D and I like to have my engines revving on light props. Why, I want a faster spool up time. You rarely use full throttle except on pull outs and the odd vertical manouvre but you want that engine running at or near peak torque. Try a 15 x6 Zinger or a APC 16 x 4 wide. Maybe even a 15 x 4 Zinger.

RE: When should I consider myself not a beginner?
I read the initial post and it got me thinking, then I read all the responses and it got me thinking even more as I thought everyone made good points. But the Pig reminded me that we all go back to being beginners when we try something new. I know I did when I started with turbines. However my 2 cents worth. When you go to the field and EXPECT to come back with intact airplanes AND your fellow flyers do not worry about your take offs and landings then you are no longer a beginner.

Mostly the flying but I do like building my own stuff. The only ARTF I ever had was a Kyosho Spit a real good flying model with retracts for an amazing price. Capable of very scale like takeoffs and landings when I got it right ....... which was not all that often.

RE: I am now a nervous flyer?????
Something with a low wingloading and that is easy to land is great for [re] building confidence. Some of my students have done well on a Modeltech Magic and others on variants of the Telemaster. It needs to be something that you can fly with out worrying about getting behind the airplane and landing must be sloooow, easy and virtually stall proof. Both the above achieve that.
