RE: Carb upgrade for PAW .40?
I think the MVVS .20 to .40 carb number is 3216. Got mine a number of years ago and do not remember where I got it. Jack

RE: Carb upgrade for PAW .40?
MVVS has a R/C carb for .20 to .40 engines that works well with the PAW .40 diesel. A bit oversize to fit in as a replacement for the PAW .40 carb. A fellow turned down the MVVS carb body to fit my PAW .40 diesel. Some folks use this carb for the MVVS .61 diesel as it works better for the MVVS .61 when used as a diesel. Jack

RE: MP Jet Classic 0.40 Diesel
The story behind the extra clamp on the GB 5.4 cc replica diesel started with an Oliver Jaguar/Panther 2.5 cc replica diesel I got from Rustler Engines in the UK. This 2.5 cc diesel vibrated severly when using a plastic motor mount. So I went to an aluminum motor mount with less vibrations but still unaceptable. I remembered seeing Team Race Diesels such as the PB TRD from 1985 with extra mounting lugs up fron behind the prop. So I had a fellow make up an aluminum motor mount that clamped the front of the Jaguar and problem solved. I did get a bit more RPM. The bigger GB does not vibrate as bad as the Jaguar but had a similar motor mount made up. Acturally, the GB does not need this special mount. Jack

RE: MP Jet Classic 0.40 Diesel
Bill Hanshaw, I just saw your 10/1/2011 post today. The CS Mills .75 cc diesel would not run the fuel tank dry. My flying buddy had the same problem. His fix was to do a fine taper of the needle valve. He put the needle valve in a drill press to do the taper. Then the engine would run the tank dry. I gave my CS Mills .75 cc to SAM for their engine raffle. My MP Jet Classic has me spoiled so no need for the CS. Last few years my R/C diesel flying has been with Oliver Jaguar/Panther 2.5 cc reproduction and the GB 5.4 cc I got from David Owen. The GB is in an Airborn 810 sq. in. wing area model. Both the Jag and GB are sort of high quality big Mills. Jack

My latest is an Airborn 810 sq. in. wing area from Bob Holman short kit and a GB 5.4 cc diesel. Flya well and first flight with the GB started on first flip of the prop and caught a thermal. Had to spin down a couple times on first flight. Jack

With the Enya four stroke diesel and the lanova cell do the following per Greg. Increase compression start the engine and let it warm up then stop the engine, Reduce compression and restart the engine. Jack

RE: Compression _ tommy bar designs
The BB Drone vibrates a lot. With the Aerodyne VC head I use a compression locking lever to keep the compression screw from backing out while running. The compression screw is 1/4 X 28. I use a 3/16 thick aluminium compression locking lever as seen in the phtos. Maybe a bit over kill and perhaps 1/8 inch thick is all that is needed. I use two "O" rings for the contra piston rather than one that comes with the head. Jack

RE: Ultrasonic cleaner
I have used these on new diesels and glow engines. Great or some engines made in China and India. I just remove the carb, backplate and head leaving the piston and cylinder fit alone. Amazing the amount of metal chips left in some engines. Not needed for the better engine manufacter such as David Owen. Jack

RE: Drone Model Diesel engines
Earlwb, very nice looking Drone BB you have. I have 4 of these engines. Two with serial numbers 11XXX are stronger. Two with serial numbers 13XXX do not turn up as high as the other two. The two 11XXX have exhast duration of about 120 degrees. The 13XXX one 100 degrees and the other 115 dgrees. I have run these engines with the stock fixed compression heads. But much nicer with the Aerodyne variable compression head. The best with APC 13/7 sport prop 6,900 to 7,000 RPM. Next with same prop 6,300 to 6,400 RPM. Both with serial numbers 11XXX. Serial numbers 13XXX best 6,000 to 6,100 and weakest 5,700 to 5,800. Jack

flyinjrc74 The model in the photo may be a Lanzo Record Breaker with mods. The original was a cabane design and the builder my have went with a conventional fuselage instead of the cabane set up. Airfoil a bit different from the Bomber. Jack

RE: 1959 Mk 3 Taipan 2.5 cc diesel
One of the local guys I fly with got a 1958 Taipan 2.5 cc diesel from a fellow who migrated to the USA from OZ in the early 1960's. He asked me to run it earlier this year as he had no experience with diesels. So I mounted it on my test stand and we ran it. I have attached a photo of the motor running on the test stand. A veru clean motor. This is the same version that David Owen is making a run of at this time. I am on the list. Jack

RE: MVVS diesel stuff
Pe Reivers, I have two of the 2.5 cc diesels from the late 1990's I think. I have run one flying in old time model at lower RPM and have had no problems. Also I have three of the MVVS 10 cc diesels also from the late 1990's, maybe. One purchased new and the other two I got used at a great price. One was set up for glow and I installed the diesel head. I have run one on the test stand but have not flown it yet. I will use it for a large old time Texaco model of the late 1930's vintage. A big prop at low RPM for fuel economy. Do you stock the head gaskets/shims/spacers or whatever you call them? I would like to obtain some of these for the MVVS 10 cc diesel. Jack Hiner in the United States.

Mike, with mine I followed the instructions that came with the motor for starting. My first four stroke and I expected trouble. But no problem it starts after about 13 to 20 flips of the prop when cold. I have never tried to start it hot. Jack

Fiery, Graupner black carbon fiber 11/8 prop. With 8 cc of fuel I get around a 3 1/2 minute motor run. At the end of the motor run the 460 sq. in Baby Playboy is getting hard to see. If I encounter lift during the motor run I have to shut down the motor. Jack

Rustler Oliver Jaguar
In the late 1990's I got a couple Rustler Oliver Jaguar 2.5 cc replicas. I built a full size Playboy Cabin and used the Jaguar to fly in the SAM R/C A Texaco event. Per SAM rules this 800 sq. in. wing area model needed a 10 ounce wing loading so min weight was 55 ounces. It needed 8 or more ounces of lead to get to 55 ounces. The Jaguar handles that size model well. Recently I have been flying a Baby Playboy scaled to 460 sq. in. wing area with the Jaguar. The Baby Playboy started life as an electric powered model in 1996. The Jaguar has a vibration problem with the props I use so a fellow made me a motor mount to reduce vibrations. It works well. It is a rather long stroke motor with a connecting rod about the same length as a PAW .40 and PAW .60 diesel. Jack

RE: Enya 41 4c diesel.
I ran my Enya .41 FS diesel recently. Maybe the 5th time on the test stand and still a bit tight. I am breaking it in as we do with iron and steel two stroke diesels of old. I am now using a 3/8 inch auto heater hose so the oil is not on the test stand. Stll takes about 13 to 21 flips of the prop to start. Nedds more time. Jack
