RE: Sorry guys... couldn't help myself...
Here we go. Someone will turn this into a heated "This ion's better than that one" argument just wait and see.

RE: Don't need no stinkin' after run oil!
Easy way to settle this is to scrape some off with a knife and put it on a paper towel. Run a magnet over it and see what happens. If it jumps to the magnet it's rust,if not it's crud.

RE: Stihl 25.4cc - Looks like a good one...
Thank you for the compliment. The carb adpt, is a Zenoah 13810 kit. I had to open up the top and bottom of the intake port on the cylinder slightly to match but it was a good fit on the carb. Jim

RE: WEIRD MAGNETO PROBLEM SOLVED-Take note.
You are correct in your diagnosis. The coil has two sides. One works at low speed and the other advances for high speed. We see the high side fail from time to time and cause the same situation as you describe. Jim

RE: Old Briggs 2 cycle 3.5 hp, need parts help.
On the cover you removed that has the pull starter there are the groups of numbers. Mod, type and code. Bring those numbers or the whole cover to your nearest small engine shop and they should be able to get the parts for you. Jim

RE: GAS/GLOW HOW TO....
ORIGINAL: hessian123 I saw the post mentioning Morgan Fuel's (10/12) Super Tiger fuel, but can anyone mention other 10/10 or nearly 10/10 fuels by name that are commonly available? I could get the Morgan Fuel from TH, but I always like to have multiple sources for things. Plus, I usually try my LHS first and I'd like to know what to ask for when I walk in there. I just picked up a 5-year old Craftsman line trimmer with a 25CC Poulan engine (I know, not the best for conversion) that's destined to go in a plane.
I could not find 10/10 fuel anywhere in my area. After a little research I found this place that will custom blend to your needs. http://www.s-whobby.com/fuel.html I placed my order at a very reasonable rate and received it in 3 days. I would recommend them to anyone needing fuel who can't find it locally. Jim

RE: Gas to Glow equivalent ? ? ?
First of all I am no expert on this but have done a couple of static tests on my 26cc stihl. With a 18x8 prop all I could get was 6200 rpm. second test was with a 16x8 at first was 7000 rpm. I then opened up the stock muffler with two 1/2" holes and got my target rpm of 7500. All test were done with wooded zinger props running gas glow mix. Hope this may help. Jim

RE: "Don't forget Stihl"
Dont scuff, sand or scotch brite a chrome cylinder. The chrome is a hard surface needed to prevent the rings from wearing out the cylinder. The rings will wear to the chrome not the other way around. Jim

OK. Thanks for the input. It didn't look good to me but wasn't sure. I'll try a different brand of gas and see what happens. It might be the winter fuel that we have here with additives. jim
ORIGINAL: w8ye DOWN ROD The vertical fin attachment tends to be a weak point on these planes. anything you can do to make a stronger connection helps
This was my fix for the fin and stab weakness. I had read on other threads as well that this was a weak point. Your plane is looking great flystraight. Can't wait to see some flying pic's and at the rate your going that might be tonight.

RE: GAS/GLOW HOW TO....
I started a Stihl Fs75 on glow today. It started right up and needed little adjustment to get a very slow idle. My concern is that when I mixed the fuel 93 octane mobil with the 10/10 glow fuel it seemed to seperate in 30 seconds. The fuel turned pink from the glow dye but there was 1/3 clear fluid on top. Is this normal? It seemed to run fine. jim

RE: Partner chain saw
This is most likely a s50 "50cc" which is an older saw with no more product support. Partner is a division of Husquvarna but never was as popular in the U.S. If the saw runs good the only draw back (besides limited parts avail.) is the carb will most likely be mounted via a rubber bellows that will need some sort of mounting bracket made once the engine frame is cut away. Hope this helps Jim

RE: First time- Bridi Stick 90
ORIGINAL: w8ye From my plane and experience flying it, I would recommend not scalloping the ailerons and elevator as the wing has more lift ability than the controls have effectiveness. The airplane can be forced off the ground at take off before you have complete aileron and rudder effectiveness I recommend that you let the plane stay on the ground a little bit to gain good effective control speed to avoid an uncontrolled roll off to the left and a crash at take off.
w8ye, If you were to build this plane again would you increase the size of the ailerons and elevator? And if so by how much? Jim

RE: First time- Bridi Stick 90
ORIGINAL: flystright where would the balance point be on this plane, would like to pre-balance before I start the covering. Thanks
Man you are really cruising on this build. Your way ahead of me. If you look at the fuse layout and under the side profile of the wing you will notice a circle with two opposing quarters shaded in under the front wing doubler. That is your CG reference. Perhaps you just haven't installed them yet but there should be two filler blocks glued in the center section of the stab where it glues to the fuse. Is this your first build? If so your doing a fantastic job considering the confusing blueprints and basicly no instructions. I've built a couple of other planes but is the most seat of the pants build I've come across. jim Jim

I haven't started my wing yet but when looking at yours it looks like you may have forgoten the 4" piece of 1/4 ply for the wing bolts. Does your wingspan measure 76" or 80" as you have it? Jim

RE: help with stuffing tube
A simple method to bend tubing is to slide a spring on the outside like a sleeve. Bend as needed and the spring will just slide off afterward.
