RE: tornado epx
One thing you can do is set cut off voltage on ESC to off. This might be set to some high lvl, with powerfull engines during start it takes so much current, that the voltage on battery can drop to as low as 5V. this might trigger cut-off on esc. Another thing you can do is to get separate battery pack for receiver and servos. I had an issue with brushed motor and low quality battery. When i pressed too much throttle it voltage dropped and ESC turned off (it cannot operate on too low voltate). This happened few times a sec and caused cogging of the motor. Let me know if it helped.

RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
thats really strange, because clutch bell shaft is designed that it will tighten itself to the crankshaft when accelerating. Maybe you have damaged bell shaft ? I really cannot think of a good reason why this is happening to you...

RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
I had a holiday brake from driving my buggy and havent visited forum for a long time. Here is a tip. Since i put on HPI clutchbnell (17 teeth from savage ) and made custom shaft for adjusting spur position all problems went away. My friend that also has tornado xp did the same (he has 18teeth spur from savage) and he also has no problems. We burnt like 2 litres of fuel each and spur looks like after 2 tanks with original bell :). I really recommend to throw away original bell, sacrifice 1 hour to make custom shaft (one long threaded screw + 2 caps ) and you will no longer be mad at your toy. Enjoy :)

RE: tornado xl
i did take my transmitter case apart and did not break anything. As for me it looks like u have really no technical sense. All trims etc are connected with detachable plugs to board so if u care to take them apart properly they will not be broken. As for your question there should be a spring inside that will force wheel to centre. Maybe some plastic know inside got broken and that's why it doesnt centre itself

RE: tornado xl 4wd
maybe you lost small rubber o-rings that sit in joints. These do not allow shaft to move back and forth and even when joint screw gets a bit loose they dont pop out. I also had same problem, just cut small slice of eraser, put in both joints and check if shaft is not moving. If is is not then u can play with your toy :)

RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
Here are pics, this doesn't look professional, but was done in like 1 hour with basic tools :). I am able to position the spur by +-0.5cm , i have to use cut-in-half nuts though. Last picture shows a shaft that was my 1st and was a bit out of centre

RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
Hey popper, try to use some steel clutch bell like hpi savage A991 part. I put it in my car, tightened all the engine mount screws and it looks like spur is not wearing on inside now. But informtulately i had to make my own gear shaft - got a screw M6 , got some nuts that fit 1st gear in place of one way bearing and tightened the gear with 2 nuts , one on each side. i had to use some other tools to adopd new shaft but it works great :). Main problem in redcats is aluminum clutch bell. Also look at clutch shaft, i bent second one and it also doesnt help spur to live longer :)

RE: clutch spring
i admire your help and attention to detail :). However if spring breaks like mine (only last circle on spring breaks ) i just use some screwdriver and pliers to make another circle. It shortens the length of a spring by 0,5mm but is a 10 minutes job and costs nothing. It happens probably because at high rev spring "joint" touches clutch disk and gets ripped... Anyway it is easy to repair and it even works with 3/4 of its original length.

RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
I am now using hpi clutchbell (17 teeth from savage #A991) and unfortunately spur is wearing as hell. At firts distance from clutch to spur i perfect, 1 - 2 tanks and spur is already worn (teeth are getting thinner). I dont know what it is made of, but looks like some really crappy plastic. And one more thing, all hpi cars have slipper cliutch to avoid too much torque on spur gear, maybe this would save a spur to last at least 2litres of fuel ...

Are there any news about clutch bell- spur gears? I hope clutch will be made of steel and spur steel or really hard plastic.

RE: 80+ MPH?! I don't think so...
My 2 cents: 1)Stating a speed of 80MPH for hurricane or 60MPH for tornado is a bit misleading, at first i thought tornado xp would reach like 80kph , but luckily it doesn't 2)Controlling a buggy on sand or gravel at 40-50kph is already a struggle , more speed for off-road is not needed.I can imagine how my car would look like after WOT crash at advertised 60MPH speed :). And let's imagine 100meter range with a controller. 60MPH~25m/s. 4 seconds and you are done, your car now lives it's own life :). 3)If i was a dealer i would put real-life speeds on my website and cut all arguments by saying " Chineese people can't read english, writing is even worse. Misleading numbers are their fault" :). 4)If they tell you to jump from an aircraft and say, you will be very rich after happy landing would you do that? Misleading advertisign is one thing, believing in it is another...

RE: simple question
as for the 100mA charger that you can get with whole package on redcat dealers websites you should charge for 28h (1800mAh igniter capacity and around 66% efficiency of charging process). But actually 100mA is such a low current that it is used as trickle charge for RC batteries and they dont damage the battery if left for too long in a charger. So to sum up charge it for 24-28hrs to reach full capacity or leave it in charger till u need it :)

RE: Never drive your car drunk...
of course, it was my third big crash and i am no longer afraid of crashing. Worst that can happen is some broken metal parts, plastic is not a problem. I already have 2 C-hubs ,wheel bearing hub , steering arms and 2 diff gear boxes melt-fixed . Nothing gives me more fun than fixing my car . And it is kind of miracle that it still is no slower than my friends virgin-like tornado xp ;). And to make your day i will show my fix-everything hammer ...

it was a wooden fence, but today i went to see that place and 20cm from ground it is reinforced with 5mm thick metal plates... And indeed it was WOT :). But acutally i already fixed most of broken plastic and chassis is more or less flat (used meat hammer and staircase to fix it ;))

RE: question about upgrading motor
ORIGINAL: Redcat Support the .18CVR will make you soil yourself...that's really all I can say. I personally don't get how they can price it under $100 and still make money, but they do. RCCA dyno'd it at 1.8 hp...until the OS .18TM and TZ came out, it was the most powerful .18 on the market, outpowering the $200+ mills from Sirio and such at any rate...as long as you take your time breaking the engine in, you'll be happy with it. Breakin is something you DO NOT want to rush with this thing.
On OS site they state it has 1.35HP. But still it should be more powerful than .18VX taiwan (i suppose it has ~1HP ) http://www.osengines.com/engines/osmg2101.html

RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
I have my original bell and new one and both are our of round. additionally my clutch bell shaft got bent somehow , so sumed up it gives like 2mm travel while rotating.... spur is gone in like 5 tanks :/. Today i put some hpi bell (a991 ) and had to distance 1st gear spur a bit (no second gear for now), but i think my tornado will finally show its teeth :D

RE: Plastic part repiar??!!
I also repaired lots of parts with my soldering iron. First went front bearing hub, then C -hub, then other bearing hub and recently i fu..ed up second diff gear box (lost control , my toy smashed into some car ;)). My patent for fixing plastic is to melt a bit of plastic to hold 2 broken parts, then make a gap in place that it broke and start putting some melted plastic that we took out while making a gap. I also use some broken spur for plastic transplant to make a bigger contact area in a place it broke. For me it works really well, sometimes other parts brake, not the ones i repaired :). One word of notice, do it somewhere , where u have loads of fresh air, otherwise you can smother family and friends :)

RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
I am happy to announce that i finally got my spur to last a lot longer that it used to. I have done like 8 tanks of fuel and it doesnt wear (teeth still have flat endings like brand new). I made sure to lock bolts that hold engine to small aluminum blocks and now it doesn't move at all. I also straightened my clutch shaft (cause miraculously it bent) and before putting bearings in clutch bell i used some...toilet paper (bearings used to move in the clutch bell but now they are tight ). After all this home patents (wacky as some people say ;)) i can drive my car without worrying about stripped spur. And what is most interesting i like to take it to the max, so in every place that i drive i make round marks on the ground (max throttle for like a minute ,car spinning damn fast) to state, that i was there ;). Now the car doesn't lool like crap and i am really happy torturing it.

I am not sure what experiences others have, but i have been running in wet grass and nothing happened. Car will be dirty as hell after that (especially when you will drive in wet grass and some sand). Just make sure no water gets in receiver box and you will be safe.
