RE: Why the near obsession with over powering airplanes?
We live in Colorado at 6200 flt altitude. The air is thinner and the flight performance of any airplane is reduced here. You also lose between 25 to 30% power from the engine compared to sea level. You need a larger engine to compensate for the lose in power.

Limeaway510, Can you take a picture of the carb barrel when the engine is running at idle? It sounds like the engine is running to fast for an idle. The clutch is engaged as a result. You might need to adjust the low end needle to get it to slow down.

RE: H9 P-51D Mustang .60 balancing problem
H9 P-51D Marie version OS 91FX engine MAS 14X8 prop Tru turn spinner On board glow system Robart air up/air down retract system with large air tank We fly off a dirt runway. The west border of the runway consists of loose soft dirt. I've taken off a few times and the tail comes off the ground. I have the recommened control throws on the elevator. On the lower limits, it barely keeps the tail down level enough to prevent a nose over. I have the same problem with my Marie edition P-51 when landing. As long as I can stay on the main part of the hard dirt runway it seams OK but when it gets in the soft dirt it wants to nose and has done so many times.

RE: weight and balance pulse 125
adam, I think a OS FS-91 4 Stroke engine is to small for the Pulse 125. It is more for the 125 class 4 stroke engines. Even the Pulse 60 had instructions for Saito 100 4 stroke in the manual. While it might fly with the OS FS-91, it might not have the performance you expect from it.

jstrach, Have you ran a watt meter on your set up? You might need to tweek the prop size and pitch for the altitude. The air is thinner in Denver than it is in San Francisco. Have you checked your batteries for overall condition since moving to Denver?

RE: Pulse XT60 w/ DLE20 questions
My Pulsr XT 40 is powered by the E-flite Power 46 motor, APC 13X6.5 prop, 5S 3750mah, Castle 80 amp ESC (overkill but that's what I had). I was really afraid of getting a Pulse considering my previous issues but I thought if I didn't overpower it then I wouldn't have the issues. So far it's true. The Pulse XT 40 is a smaller plane and flies like it. I will says that it flies like it's bigger brothers only on a smaller scale. The bigger planes will be more wind friendly and will ground handle (handle bumps and holes on the ground) better. We installed 4" air filled Dubro tires on our planes because our field was rather rough. I used the stock tires of the Pulse 40 from the beginning and so far no issues. I've never turned the landing gear around on any of my Pulses. I think if the CG is moved back far enough you will not have issues with nose overs. I had the OS 91 FX in my Pulse XT 60s and only had to add 1/2oz of lead to the tail to get the CG on the suggested spot.

RE: Pulse XT60 w/ DLE20 questions
Skidman, You are correct. I was referring to the Pulse XT 120. I've had 2 Pulse XT 60s. They were powered by a OS 90 FX and MAS 13X8 prop. They flew great and floated like a dream. One was destroyed when the right wing broke. It was a painfully crash. The second Pulse died when I applied to much power in a dive. It never recovered from the dive. The entire Pulse line has weak tail feathers. The planes are fine as long as you do not overpower then. I've got a Pulse XT 40 with electric power. It's not overpowered and flies great.

RE: Pulse XT60 w/ DLE20 questions
The Dle 20 engine is too much power for the Pulse XT 60. I also don't think you can turn a 17" prop with the stock landing gear on the Pulse. That engine would be perfect for the Pulse XT 20.

RE: Airplane car carrier plans.
It's not going to be much help but can you send pics of what the car looks like and possible layout ideas. What size planes are you trying to squeeze into the Toyota? I have a Subrau Outback wagon. Here is a couple of pics from this past weekend. There is Balsa USA Pheaton 90, Hanger 9 P-51 Marie, Sig 4 Star 40, Hanger 9 Pulse XT 40 (electric), a small electric we call the batplane, and lastly a Hirobo Freya SST-Eagle 90. I'd like to build a small PVC rack that can fill the upper open cavity more wings or fuselages

RE: Hangar 9 Pulse XT 40
I've got a Pulse XT 40. It has a Efilte Power 46, Castle creations 80 ESC, and a APC 13X6.5prop. I power it with a 5S1P 3750mah battery. It flies great. There are couple of youtube videos of it's flight. I've had a couple of Pulse XT 60's but they were destroyed by being overpowered. I was really scared to get another Pulse but I also thought that if I didn't over power it it might survive. So far it has and it has been reliable, clean, and truely wonderfull to fly. We even used it as a test bed for other motor, prop, and battery combinations. James

RE: Four Star 40 revisited
This is a strange post. I recovered the fuselage last year with the intent to eventually recover the wing. It was originally tan/cream (wing) and green (fuselage). I I covered the fuse with metalic red and white. The wing would get a similar treament when the time came. I finally finished the wing a couple of weeks ago along with the addition of dual aileron servos. The first couple of flights went well but the next day, it crashed and broke in half at the wing saddle. We have aguy in our group that does amazing things when repairing planes. I turned the fuse over to him and onve returned repaired the covering. I've attached pictures of what it look like now.

RE: Hanger 9 Pulse XT40 PNP
I've had 2 H9 Pulse 60's. Both powered by a OS 90FX. Both died an untimely death. I've been worried about by other H9 planes. I picked a H9 Pulse 40 Arf. I powered it with a E-flite 46, 5S 3750 and 4200 mah batteries, and 13X6.5 prop. The thing flies fantasic at our altitude (6200ft). I power up for take off and then back it down to 1/2 throttle for general flight. We've turned the plane into a power system test bed. Now it's powered by a Rimfire 35-48-700kv. We powered it with a 6S 5000 mah battery. It is a little much and doesn't allow much air flow through the fuse. We pulled the 6S battery and have installed 2 3S 2300 batteries. We will try this tomorrow. The H9 Pulse 40 is a good plane as long as you don't abuse the airframe with excess power and weight.

RE: YSE0895 Exhaust Pipe Assembly for YS
MIke, Are you using a pump on your Saito 125? The exhaust stacks for YS engines do not have a nipple for fuel tank pressure. I don't think the stacks are not restricted enough to to even use for muffler pressure. What version of Saito 125 are you using.

RE: Need help identifying this biplane
It look very much like the Balsa USA Phaeton 90. The photos of mine were from when I got it. It doesn't have a cowl. I'm considering ordering one. I changed the motor to a YS 91-AC. It didn't work out to well and broke in half. It has been repaired and I installed a Saito FA125 instead. We put the first flight on it last weekend since the repair.

RE: helicopter doesn't climb very well
secretspy, You should be hovering at around the 4.5 deg point and around 60 to 65 power. Maximum pitch is around 9 to 9.5 degrees. The air here is just to thin to get the power of OS 32. It is the same issues across the board on the 32 class engines. Even the TT 39 engines don't add a significant amount of power to overall power loss from our altitude. The other issue is heat (air temperature). The fact is that cooler air is more dense and produces more power. This isn't issue if you have a 32 size heli powered by a 50 but it does matter is it is a 30 class heli powered by a 32 engine. Carbon blades will make the rotor system cleaner and consume less power overall. It is a performance enhancement but only if you feel confortable enough to be able to replace them when and if you crash.

RE: Reactor Bipe Triple Bypass Surgery
I'm curious. Why didn't you add some tri-angle stock to the front of the engine firewall instead of behind the firewall? It looks good otherwise? I was going to use the same engine on a Balsa USA Phaeton 90. The motor didn't work out. I ended up putting a YS 91-AC in it. The motor died and the plane dead sticked into some weeds (out of sight). When we got to it, the plane was broke in half behind the wing. I finished the repair this week. I patched the covering and installed a Saito FA125 yesterday. We managed to break-in the engine today and got a first flight since repair. The CG was off some and it climbed alot. It took all the trim and some to keep it level. It flew good otherwise and landed in one piece.
