RE: Old o.s.15r/c won't idle
I think the instructions said use the 25% for the run in then a comercial grade fuel woulod be fine after. I need to recheck that and look into the fuels you recomended. Thanks, Jamie

RE: Old o.s.15r/c won't idle
So you think that the poor idle is because it is not broke in yet? The instructions require a 30 minute full throttle (R/C engine) 1/2 to 1 full turn rich run in. Then a 20 minute run in while leaning the engine a little at a time. I did the run in and could not wait so I flew three flights with the plane 1/2 to full throttle until I was ready to land and dead sticked it. Do I need to break it in more? It seems to have trouble pulling fuel. I point the plane toward the ground to start it to get the fuel to flow easier into the carb or I have to prime it each time it dies. If I remember right it idled ok on the stand but the tank was higher than the one in the plane in relation to the carb. Jamie

RE: I just bought my Herr little extra...
I messed with the engine a litle today until my glow igniter went dead. I used RTV high temp gasket seal on my exhaust because it leaked so bad (still leaks a little). If I tear into the carb I will use some on the O ring. Ran the screw in more and seemed to help. I richened the high end as well. Still not a reliable idle.

RE: I just bought my Herr little extra...
I got lucky and was able to mount the battery half on the servotray and half on a battery tray I made (I used a 600ma). I stuffed the receiver under the battery tray. Flys great! The 15 I have in it is small and has a short muffler so, not as much weight up front. Jeffie, The screw will not cover the hole. I adjusted it to match an O.S.10 I have and will try to adjust from there. I think it is running lean cause when I took it from the bench and put it in the plane I had to lean it. It idled fine on the bench and the tank is alot higher compared to the the tank in the plane. Jamie

Old o.s.15r/c won't idle
I have an old O.S.15R/C engine that will not idle for long. It is twenty five years old I did a run in on it and was wondering if that may be what is keeping it from idling, not being broke in? There was alot of oil on the throttle barrel, gooey, which may be on the low speed scew? I think this engine has an air bleed screw and was wondering what the setting is for it and how to clean it. Any other info would be greatly appreciated. Jamie

RE: I just bought my Herr little extra...
It did have alot of old oil bilt up on the throttle barrel and could be on the low speed needle valve. Do you know what the setting is for the bleed screw? It transitions fine but won't idle for long. Not sure if it is not broke in enough to allow it to iddle? Jamie

RE: I just bought my Herr little extra...
Maidened my Extra today. What a blast! I am having trouble, my 25 year old o.s. 15 does not want to idle so I ran it WOT till it was time to land. I cut the throttle back and dead sticked three perfect landings. Ran it ten minutes on a 4 o.z. tank and had a little less than a half left. I did not want to get too crazy with the unrelliable engine but it handled great. It had a little trouble comming off the grass strip but I am running a 7x6 prop. Can't wait for the next flight! Jeffie, You have any ideas on my idle problem? You are familiar with this engine... I tried adjusting the air bleed screw and no luck any suggestions? Jamie

RE: I just bought my Herr little extra...
Jeffie You are right it is an old o.s. 15 r/c. Love the way it sounds, It ran in good and runs nice on the bench. I have not got it in the air yet. A friend of mine gave it to me and said he got it 25 years ago and never ran it. I got busy and have not had time to work on the Extra but will let you know how it performs. That same friend came out to the field with an E-flight Pulse, he flew it from our grass field. Made me hopeful of the Extra being able to land and take off from the grass. Jamie

RE: I just bought my Herr little extra...
I had to grind a big chunk to get the muffler to fit along the fuse. I ran in my engine today, probably should have made sure my 25 year old engine started before I started grinding, got lucky. fuel leaked out of the needle valve and the muffler, it has a strap to hold it on not screws, what a sobbery mess. Just need the electrics installed and it is up up and away! Rog did you cut a hole in the fuse to mount your battery behind the cockpit? I have seen the batteries in the cockpit. Jamie

RE: I just bought my Herr little extra...
guess I need to so surgurey to get the 15 to work. I have a O.S. 10 and it seems to have the same problem or atleast real close. What does the bigger engine do to the CG? I won't have to install the battery in the tail will I? I can't wait to get this in the air. I still have to break in the 15 (hope it runs). Jamie

RE: I just bought my Herr little extra...
I was wondering if you have to use a muffler exstension on the 15's ? I have a 25 year old O.S. Max 15 (never been run) that hits the fuse with the muffler. I am going to have to carve the fuse if I am going to use this engine. Any one else have to do any carving other than putting in the 4oz tank? I bought two of these one to fly and one for parts lol.

RE: Puffy Lipo
Thanks for the info. I have a Rhino battery from Hobby king and with shipping it is not much cheaper than the Thunderpower. It is bigger and heavier but has higher C ratings and is doing great so far, but the only battery that fits in my YAK battery compartment is the Thunderpower. I will get a meter and check the motor. The motor is a little stiffer than normal but turns free. Jamie

Speedy, If the motor is bad and I put the tester on it, won't I fry the new battery if it is pulling too much juice? How could I check the motor without using a battery? They are not cheap! Jamie

RE: Puffy Lipo
I got the 'few bucks' thing, a battery would be cheaper than burning down the house. Bob let me know what they say about the battery, prob. replace it and say pitch the old one. I saw on youtube a guy showing how to 'unpuff' a lipo. He poked a hole in it to let the air out then used CA to close the hole, did it in a seam so he could seal it better. Says they work fine...

RE: Puffy Lipo
That will be my next purchase after the plane I just bought... THe battery is 17c constant and 20c Burst. 17c puts it just under 18 amp constant. The second time I flew it It acted funny just taxing (like the prop spun on the shaft) so I aborted and checked it out and found the battery was puffed alot more than the first time. The battery works fine in the foamy I am flying and I have a meter to check balance of the pack. If the ESC is bad the plane will not work? If the motor is bad that could over heat the battery? Drawing to many amps? I guess I need to invest in a meter or find someone with one. What would be a good replacement moter if that is what is wrong?

Puffy Lipo
I have a 980kv inrunner on a 18 amp ESC swinging a geared 11x4.7 prop with a Thunder power 1320mah battery. After my flight I noticed the battery had puffed, it cooled and the puff went away. I charged the battery and tried to fly on a different day and the battery puffed again and I did not get off the ground. I am afraid to hook the battery back up to the motor, I put the battery in the fridge to cool it and remove the puff and have since charged and used it in a different plane. I did have a couple of landings where the gear flexed enough to let the prop hit the ground and grind the tips off but nothing fancy or full throttle manuvers that first flight. What is up? What would be a good repacement for this if it is the motor? It is in a Powerline (Art Tech) YAK. www.Bananahobby.com sells these planes but I got mine from LHS on sale cheap. Thanks for the help. BLW, I forgot to say I put an A3 in it and tried retuning, I am not sure if I am quite there yet. What is the difference in being to lean or to rich on the low end? Sound, RPM, Hesitation...

RE: .46 evolution trainer trouble
I was reading the manual on line and it said that if the engine runs poor one of teh problems could be bad fuel. What the heck I had a new jug why not??? It runs alot better, I was able to run a full tank installed in the plane without it dieing on me. The other jug of fuel was not that old so I did not figure it to be bad (Wildcat 10%). I still have a problem where if I let it idle for a minute simulating an approach, the engine seems to load up and want to die if you go straight to full throttle. Did the pinch test on the low end and it is good where it is. I could lean it alittle more but then it seems that I have to richen the high end to make up for it. Thanks for all the info. This has been frustrating. I would rather be flying.

RE: .46 evolution trainer trouble
I have gone through the fuel system and found no leaks. I replaced the 'O' rings in the carb and remote needle. I have isolated the fuel tank from the airplane with foam. called the manufacturer about needle settings. Put a deflector on the muffler to increase back presure. Adjusted the needles till I had to replace the 'O' rings again. Put a glow in with a idle bar and still have problems with it going from low to high rpm. I t will just die. If you run it at low or mid throttle for awhile and go to full throttle it wil die. I had a plug with a 'H' on it and tried it no help. The engine is on a Uproar which puts the tank pretty low when compared to the carb so I am thinking a different engine....? The engine will run good and transition good then start in with the problems after about a minute or two. I may try the steel wool to get more pressure. Any other ideas

RE: .46 evolution trainer trouble
The A3 is what was in it before I put the Idle bar glow in it. The fuel lines are new. I just bought a gasket set for the carb and I think O ring for the remote needle valve. I am going to try to repack the two and see if that helps. Been seeing bubles in the line after the remote needle so I thought that would be a good place to start. Thanks for the factory settings I think I may be a little rich on the low end, I will have to play with it after I repack and see where I am at. Thanks for the help.

RE: .46 evolution trainer trouble
Took fuel tank out and checked clunk and for air leaks and all is well. It is a touch lower than the remote needle valve but close, short fuel line from tank to valve. Everything is new except the engine which was prurchased used but in good shape. I did not know if maybe I had the vavle settings screwed up especialy the idle. Can you lose pressure from the exhaust that would let the fuel run back into the tank? Sometimes I have to cover the exhaust to build pressure to keep fuel in the carb to get it started. Jamie

.46 evolution trainer trouble
I have an Evolution .46 trainer with the flywheel removed a 10x6 prop and 10% fuel. Engine runs great transitions good until about a half tank of fuel, then it wil die when ran up to full throttle from long period of idle. The fuel in the line will run back from the carb to the tank and it becomes hard to start without alot of priming. I switched to a glow with an idle bar and still the same results. Does anyone know the needle settings that I should start from? Any help would be appreciated. Jamie

RE: Evolution Trainer runs poor
Thanks for the help! I have instructions but they did not go into detail, just adjust to your preference. I heard hotter plugs work best in this engine. I will try one with an idle bar. It starts great but the transition from low to high rpm gets me once in a while after a long idle period. It seems to happen more when I have half a tank or so, like the back pressure is not there. Thanks again, Jamie

RE: Evolution Trainer runs poor
Adjusted the low end to 1 1/5 turns and ended up at about alittle less than one full turn. Taxied around the cul de sac and ran it up to speed no problem. It did die on me again after letting it idle and running it up to speed a few times, but my glow igniter is dead. I have an #8 plug in it and was running a #3 any suggestions on plugs?
