RE: Lipo battery recommendation for Mamba 5700
Don't be turned off by the voltage different. These packs hold their voltage under load as good if not better than any other battery. My buddy with his E-sav has three different sets of batteries. (2) Venom 4600, (2) GP3300's and (2) A123 6.6v's. The A123's outperform both other sets by a long shot. He's runnin S600's and 22t pinions and can wheely all day with the 123's but can even get the front wheels off the ground with the nimh's. A123's can simply provide more power despite their lower voltage. After using my 3s and my friends 2s packs, I simply can't imagine getting any other kind of batteries.

http://www.a123racing.com/html/starterkits.html Much safer than Li-Po, useable for 1000+ cycles. Cheaper than a Li-Po + Charger + Balancer. 15 minute re-charge. Perfect batteries if you ask me, unless your chassis can't accommodate the form factor.
ORIGINAL: toyoguru Looks like dirt and grim helped to eat the idler up. Taking the trans apart every so often, cleaning and relubing would help wonders in keeping everything smooth and lasting longer. RE: e-savage
Yeah, S-600's are the popular "drop in" replacement motors for the e-sav. My buddy ran some in his for a while and they were awesome up until one accidentally came unplugged and he ran the truck for 15 minutes on one motor. It got close to 300F and was pretty much dead after that.

RE: What Off-road car/truck ?
I would recommend an E-savage, you really can't beat it. Strong, plenty fast and VERY durable, comes with good batteries AND a dual charger! Handles well enough on a track if you feel like tossing it in a race or two. A great deal overall, tons of fun.

RE: E-maxx battery suggestions
Another option would be the 2s1p starter kit from A123racing.com. My friend bought that kit to run in his E-savage and loves them! The kit may be slightly more expensive than two ib4200 packs and a low-end charger, but you can recharge both a123 packs faster than you can charge one ib4200 pack, run them and charge them back to back as many times as you want per day without having to worry about damaging the life of your cells or waiting for them to "cool down". Don't scoff at the 6.6v rating either, the weight saving and ability to gear up to achieve even more speed will more than make up for the .6v per pack loss. Anyways, just my opinion, go with what you feel comfortable with, just want you to know there are options out there. I personally chose the A123's over Nimh's simply because of all the fuss about "treating your cell's right" to make them last, limiting your runs per day on them, letting them cool off, etc etc. I really could care less about all that fuss, I want plug, play, recharge, repeat as much as I want without worrying about destroying my investment, that's why I went with and will continue to choose A123 cells.

RE: strong stampede drive shafts
What makes you think you'll need new drive shafts? I'm running nearly 10 volts through the mm5700 system on a variety of tires (Talon's, Masher's, Anaconda's) and have had zero problems with any of the driveshafts the entire time I've had the truck, and I don't "go easy on it" by any means. Save your money and time, replace them with stockers if / when they break. If it becomes a consistent problem, there is something seriously wrong with your drivetrain and you should take a real close look at the entire rear end for binding or other problems that would snap your shafts.

RE: E-maxx motor question (not about brushless)
It's worth it to get the S-600's. The E-savage motors probably aren't going to be much, if any better than the E-maxx motors. My buddy recently swapped his stock e-sav motors for a couple of S-600's and wow what a difference. Awesome motors for the cost and it's worth learning to solder if you plan on staying in this hobby :) We put three 0.1uf caps on each motor, + -> GND || + -> - || - -> GND

Geared 15/90 with Mashers and 3s A123's my motor hits about 180 according to my Temp Gun. Geared 17/86 on Anaconda's with 3s A123's its about 190-200 after a full pack and lots of high speed WOT runs.

RE: Pede 5700 gearing questions for bashing???
For general bashing I stay with a 12/90 on a 3s a123 setup (9.9v). If your running 6 or 7 nimh's you can probably get away with 15/90 or 15/86 and when you just wanna go as fast as you can, gear up to 19/86, but don't run more than one pack through it that way and watch your temps carefully.

For backyard bashing you would probably be better off with an out of the box RTR XL-5 Stampede. In completely stock form it's absolutely perfect for backyard bashing.

RE: How to eliminate Mamba Max cogging
There appears to be two different sets of cogging issues with the MM set. Some people see cogging when starting from a dead stop while the truck is closer to them, and see improvement by adjusting start power , throttle curve, etc. I'm thinking these people might be suffering from the "crappy battery" cogging syndrome, where the motor isn't getting the power it wants to get goin. Good batteries and connectors are more likely to help in situations like these. Others, such as myself, saw cogging when starting from a dead stop while the truck is quite a distance away, this is more than likely due to interference between the TX/RX. Re-arranging electronics and good wire routing is a good solution to these issues, as well as switching to a good FM / 2.4ghz radio setup. I dunno, just my thoughts, someone write up a good FAQ on MM cogging! :P

RE: How to eliminate Mamba Max cogging
ORIGINAL: Getrdone Sorry it took me so long to respond. Here's a top view picture of my Pede... I'm still planning on changing the punch control this evening to a higher setting to see if that helps.
OK I notice a couple of things that could help: 1) Flip your battery around - There is LOTS of power coming through those wires at the end of the battery, and they are less than an inch away from your RX! That = interference. Flip the battery around so the wires are as close to the ESC as possible. 2) Move the wires going from the ESC to the RX and from the servo to the RX to the right side of the chassis (with the truck facing you). Don't leave excess wire dangling, tie it all down along one side of the chassis, preferrably the opposide side from where the antenna wire is coming out of your RX. 3) Braid the wires between the ESC and motor. I braided each set and zip tied them seperately so even when I disconnect the motor from the ESC all the wires stay braided. From what I've experienced with my Mamba system, you don't have to program the ESC to get rid of cogging. It's all about proper wire management and reducing the interference reaching your RX.

RE: How to eliminate Mamba Max cogging
The keys to MM glitching: 1) GOOD BATTERIES (a123's are da bomb) 2) Move the RX and antenna as far away from every other wire as possible. I'm running a Pede with the FLM Super Extended chassis and have the RX at the very front of the truck, the ESC and servo wires zip tied down the left side of the chassis and the antenna wire on the right side of the chassis and mounted inside the front body mount tower thingy. There is still slight glitching when I get too far away, but that's due to me still using the stock Traxxas TX/RX.

You should buy a dev kit of the A123 cells and make you two 2s saddle packs. Run 6.6v Li-ion instead of 4.8 nimh's, or make two 2s2p packs if two A123's will fit on each side.

The E-savage is a freaking TANK. My buddy has had his for two months now and hasn't broken anything yet and he drives it like he doesn't care, flipping, rolling, landing every which way you can imagine. Actually yesterday was the first time he broke anything on it, he was running and jumping it without a body and snapped off two of the rear shock caps after landing top-down a few times. In my opinion, e-savage is the only electric MT worth buying.
